Steven came across really well here. Extremely fair criticism, gave credit where it was due, and some small advice on where to go with it. Same with Sara but that's nothing new, she's the GOAT
Sarah is a breath of fresh air in the Den. It would've been better if he showed a video of people riding and having fun on the bikes outdoors, a product like this one, to see it in action, speaks louder than words. Touker's statement was uncalled for, "It looks like it came from Frankenstein's Workshop."

What he means is, like when previous bikes were on the den there were multiple that looked like BMX all confident and riding, yet he couldn't demonstrate the bike moving in a large area, there wasn't a demonstration or a video of someone using it brought in.
Looks like fun but way too niche. Less practical than bike and people who are really into rowing and want to do it outside can use a boat (I find it weird that nobody mentioned it). Plus it would require a house with lots of storing space or garage. The only way I could imagine people using if you could rent it for 15-60 minutes at parks or some other outdoor spaces just to try something new.
I think Steven was on the money. It's enormous and unwieldy. Imagine if you went down a tight London laneway and then realised you made a wrong turn. You'd almost need to dismantle the thing to turn around.
It's also probably really dangerous for the same reason. I imagine it goes pretty fast and without proper maneuverability you could easily just roll into traffic or some other danger.
While the indoor rower is the most unstimulating thing ever, I can defo vouch for its benefits! I lost 14kg in 10 weeks and put about 3 inches on my thighs. Once I got to my goal weight, I sold it and bought a road bike, which is now my pride and joy. Looking at the range of motion, it doesn’t provide enough stimulation to the muscles, if that’s what you’re looking for. I also question the braking and the steering. 3500 seems to much, especially when you can get both the concept 2 and a pretty decent 105 equipped road bike for the same price. Not sure if hats a worthy comparison but seems a lot of money for less efficiency.
mm I cant quite get my head round, imagine having to steer but also losing power, you cant do both, its dangerous, maybe its good for those long cycle paths lol
@@simonmcintosh6565 Idk, more like a fad. They could only do it in the summer and more or less on long straight roads. I live in Sweden, so they might be better in other countries?
The inventor totally missed the boat (excuse the pun). This is actually a great way to bring the sport of rowing to people who don't have access to water. And since a single person rowboat can cost easily $10,000 or more. It's actually very affordable.
Is far too dangerous to use where there is activity of either people or other modes of transport moving around. The key reason being lack of control ability through what is basically a hands free balance approach for the steering. I mean how could you steer or swerve in a controlled manner to suddenly avoid a hazard or obstacle.
@@BenjaminGoose that is absolutely no excuse. If I was expected to work in a foreign language, I'd have to use whatever tech was available to ensure it was correct. Grammar is grammar. Their outsourcing should be something no one even picks up on.
Sara was spot on with what she said at the end. £3500 is way WAAY to experience for it. I’d it was a £100-£200! Or even £300 I think a lot of people would be tempted to buy it. Anything over that people would be easily put off
Looks dangerous to me. I would think the control of the steering especially is suspect when your steering device ie handlebar is moving backwards and forwards whilst trying to turn.
This is why cycles and other new forms of transport need to be better regulated. This looks like a nightmare to control and riding this on public streets would be dangerous..
I don't know if Peter Jones is trying to be funny or he's dumb lol. "It's not going anywhere?" Doesn't take a genius to understand it's on a stand lol.
I think he's totally mis-pitched the product. By using a rowing action instead of a pedaling action you over double the potential energy input. This would be perfect for covering huge distances in open, flat(ish) terrain. Its not a mode of exercise, its a mode of transport which offers greater long-distance comfort and speed potential than a traditional push-bike could at the expense of mobility. Bit like how a luxury saloon compares to a hot hatch.
He should have said it could become a fad with a tipping point into Olympic or other competitive sports, thereby scaling it into visible markets that reach Joe Consumer too.
I can see the natural balance you get from a normal bicycle will be lost with the position and action required, steering would be impossible with your hands against your chest....I can see loads of accidents when people fall off at low speeds and corners. Similar bikes are available with hand drive, but tend to be on 3 wheels which would be more practical in this case.
It's actually a great idea. Spending too much time in the gym is not good for us. Go outside! This would have been fun but it's too expensive and needs to be marketed well to adapt to the current market. I fear Peter's own stupidity would have been cured if he had used a sports expert.
The name Road Rower reminds me too much of the Road Runner bird. Loved Peter’s closing statement, it really isn’t a needed product. The road rower seems extremely similar to handcycles. The only difference is that with this contraption you use both your legs and your arms to propel yourself. Also handcycles are often trikes for better stability. Might appeal to people living in flat regions with straight roads or for people who want to row but don’t live near water but not mass market enough to be a viable business.
well it needs a bit of engineering he's not an engineer, but the concepts good, and it doesn't need to have a big turning circle actually you can make it tighter than a bike. make it out of moulded carbon fibre frame or fibreglass and you can put the front wheel where the axle of the feet rest is to make it shorter with a smaller wheel so it looks like a chopper. painting it luminous green or pink or both for different clientele he would have gotten an investment.
it will never work because there zeros balance without the the big momentum . the only reason this function works already is with the 3 wheeler, and the ones with 2 wheels, has the same typical bicycle motion at the front which is why it doesnt need all that initial motion to stay upright
Extraordinarily dangerous contraption to ride with all for limbs moving simultaneously...Turning, braking, stopping, navigating road conditions and traffic...The motor was interesting addition, but it would have been helpful if he'd shown a video demonstration...with different age riders...BUT maybe he didn't because it's not rideable safely. I am sorry, but I am out.
