@@HarrySmithWoodturning At first I wondered if you should have left the hole plug in but the finished bowl is (imho) beautiful the way you finished it. perfection or beauty, I'll take beauty
@@HarrySmithWoodturning I was thinking about my first reply. I think the style would be determined by the piece of wood. Perfection is a very subjective term
I love this burl-bowl.... shaped as in nature... non-industrial... with lots of charme in each crack!!! It's still unique... under millions of other bowls!!! Chapeau 🎩 👍 🇩🇪
@@HarrySmithWoodturning That very much depends on the piece of wood and skill of the turner to bring out the best in it. And don't rely on resin too much...wood is much more beautiful than plastic.
@HarrySmithWoodturning Natural. The finish depends on the piece and type and color of wood. If it has many colors unfinished, imo use shelack (spelling). So just one color use a stain of or near same color then a clear type of finish.
@@HarrySmithWoodturning they both have their own characters so really cant decide yet. I've only been turning and doing woodwork for a year now and still learning every day.

That grain is ridiculous. Great work! I don’t think I can get oak like that here in Arizona, sadly.
Nicely done. Curious of the finish you use.
Thank you Harley, do you like the natural style over more perfect pieces? For this piece, I used Danish oil and wood wax.
@@HarrySmithWoodturning For sure the natural style.

@@HarrySmithWoodturningyes I like the more natural style. But I’m just an observer. I enjoy watching.
That's beautiful. What kind of wood?
Thank you Garth, do you like the natural style over more perfect pieces? 😊 This piece is made from Turkey oak
Are you using a roughing gouge to start on this? Everything I've seen and been told, that is a no go on bowls.
Most everything I turn is from timber. I like bark, worm holes or any other mark of mother nature
Do you know if the Turkey Oak is the European or American variety?
Thanks for watching! I'm not 100% sure, however I imagine it's the European variety 😊
