I agree about the pioneer lifestyle being unnatural! What is far more natural is having a small community where each member excels at something. Like a beekeeper, a seamstress, the farmer, if I can find a way to outsource something, I always do! My dad's family came from the oldest polish settlement in Texas. They too traveled with the priest and sisters
I so hope we can get back to these kinds of communities!

Speaking of Ma Ingalls and Pioneers. In the book The Long Winter, MA was really excited to be moving into town for the winter. She says it was because she wanted the girls to go to school and attend church. So no, she didn't necessarily enjoy living alone in the middle of nowhere.

The black frame with the monk or person is a brass rubbing. My aunt had one that her sister gave her. Many were done in England. You would take paper and rub ona painting or a surface and then cut it out and frame it.

Ugh your message and vision for community is so dear to my heart as well! It’s sad how far off we have come and it honestly can be overwhelming thinking of how in the world can we get back there especially with how the world is financially going. But your word was encouraging and inspiring, helping me to continue on my person vision for that in our small town we live in. I trade with a few friends for milk, eggs, meat ect and it’s been such a lovely journey as we start this community vision!
It’s going to be an uphill battle - but I’m so hopeful as I see so many pursuing this goal!

I live in a private community in Florida and we have an HOA which governs alot of what we can and cannot do . But I’ve incorporated a lot of things that I learned from your Channel and I feel you should do what you can and be happy with those results you know . Life is a gift from the Lord and family is what’s most important . Recently I visited a local farmer who opened her home and farm to show me around and I had the best time and I was so honored to have been able to visit as well as purchase many things . But I honor what you guys do because it is ALOT of work and many want to do this but few are called in my opinion . So Kuddos and from my home to yours thank you for all you do for the community. This video hits home because we also avoid the all or nothing mentality. We are homesteading newbies, but we are not stressing ourselves to do it all and make everything homemade. God bless you more and more Steph! I'll surely check out the recipe for homemade pasta coz my husband has very sensitive stomach and he's better now since we switched to spelt. We buy spelt grains and grind it on our own. But spelt pasta is expensive, so, it's so nice to be able to make it from scratch. ❤❤

My husband works M-F and i work Sat and Sun. It’s been this way since my husband and I met almost 10 years ago. We just had baby #4, i home cook, homestead, homeschool, homebirth, clean, all of the behind the scene stuff. I love it all the duties. But as of right now it works for me to have those 2 days a week where i’m with my family all morning until noon and then i go to work, talk to other adults, have a little time away with a change of scenery and come back refreshed.
My husband has started to ask me if i would be willing to quit because he has said 4 kids is a lot for him alone which is fine, but financially with the world the way it is it would be TIGHT and we wouldn’t be able to build up our garden and homestead as quickly as we have been and i know he understands this but God willing the goal is to eventually make money off our homestead and become full time SAH.
Thats awesome that you know the history of your ancesters. My family has never been close so I have no information or stories about my family.

Ohhh I am so jealous of your thrift stores! Here in suburban/rural Oregon, we don't have many. Salvation army was the best but they left town, and the small church thrift stores are slowly closing down. 😢 However one hint for your viewers is, if you have a Habitat for Humanity near you, search around for their outlet store. Ours is a ways away but it's a gold mine! Not just furniture and housewares but also sinks, light fixtures, art, dishes... It all comes from the homes they work at, but also donations to support their construction ministry.

Lots of my ancestry came across the plains, and didn’t survive because of the harsh weather, they crossed rivers in the winter, and had the extreme heat in the summer. So many of them did not survive because of the elements. Being a pioneer there life style was a matter of survival. Today’s world is SO much different, making sour dough bread, and wearing a dress does not make for a pioneer. We still have all of the convenience of modern day life. We have cars, cell phones, computers, air conditioning, planes, trains, tractors, so so many things that never existed in the real world pioneer days. Regardless of how we look at it, today’s modern world is completely different.
Totally! And I’m not in favor of returning to that life 100% - I just want to have some of the basic skills they did and keep my modern conveniences too!

I needed this pep talk! 🙌 my baby is teething and he has not let me put him down and I have felt like such a failure all day, having a little pity party that I’m not super mom that can handle everything 😂 I can’t do it all and that’s okay. I need to start saying that more.
Some seasons are just less productive! I was just telling my husband last night I need to drastically reduce my expectations during spring and summer lol, so much going on!
Teething is a tough time. Seems like nothing helps the baby or you. It's a matter of passing through it. It does end and the next thing you know they're grown up and out the door. Hang in there and know that every momma has felt like you do. Love, rock, walk the baby and when you get a break, take it.

You can learn and live “this life style” without the a bunch of land or animals 🙂 Once a week or month, try something new! Baking bread.. Making a jam.. Cooking a meal from scratch 🙂 Gardening can be practiced and done in containers with things like small dwarf tomatoes and cucumbers just sitting outside your front door 🙂

As far as the art in the nice gold frame you got for later. Looks like it is some sort of goddess from another religion. Sooooo...I personally would take it out of the frame and put it in the firepit asap. I would not keep it in my home for sure. I've heard preachers talk about bringing curses/evil spirits into their homes on objects such as this which spirits proceeded to oppress the inhabitants. Not sure if this is a possibility but I do not want any sort of false idols in my home anyways. The Lord Jesus Christ, the Heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit are the only God whom I want to honor. ❤
