    Again a very clear explanation about something basic that should be known from first class but that from my experience is not often the case in small clubs. Since I watch your channel I made huge improvements on my technique and on my score. Thanks a lot. Keep it that way!

    Really enjoy the clarity you bring to archery concepts that are too rarely addressed. Great work

    Very good video, and best explanation for bow hand positioning I ever saw.
    Not sure if it’s the 101 version of “how to hold a bow” but I personally love all the details you include. 👌🏻

      Yes is it not ironic how we say not to grip, twist and tourqe the bow /grip? When the tourqe on and from the pressure point is what you need to direct the bow, like tires on a car, so grip acctualy means exactly that , but when we say it People go automaticly to how they grab(grip) hold the bow or the little misshapen Plastic thing

    This is like perfectly on-time-advice 👌 However, I found out that very important mistake is having forefinger knuckle too much above the shelf, which can cause clearance issues causing curious right impacts on target.

    When you said it's a right-handed bow, do you mean there is a bow for each hand? It's important information when purchasing!

    What about of eye dominance?

  • @weizi0406

    Really like your teaching, very clear and detailed. A question, the elbow of the bow hand is pointing down, or slightly sideway?

    • @OnlineArcheryAcademy
      @OnlineArcheryAcademy  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Ideally the inside face of the elbow joint should be flat, so that the elbow faces directly into the camera when viewed from the side (i.e. elbow not facing the ceiling. I've done a full video on that too so if you search 'elbow' on my channel it should come up :)

    It's really useful. Now I understand... I'm using it for Oly recurve and barebow. Thanks, Ashe. Someone did ask about eye dominance.. I sm cross-dominance...righthanded. and I close/squint my left eye but some people say it's better to use both eyes... What are your thoughts?

    • @OnlineArcheryAcademy
      @OnlineArcheryAcademy  4 роки тому

      It's definitely better to use both eyes if you can! But sounds like that might not be an option. Blocking one eye could work, that way you can keep both open and relaxed but still aim correctly :)

    Thanks for the video. I am a compound archer who recently took up Oly Recurve. I’m so used to a low grip from many years of compound but find that I tend to heel the bow more on the recurve. I’m pretty sure that my recurve has a factory installed medium grip. Do you use a medium or high grip and would you say with a high grip, you are less likely to torque the bow vs a medium or low grip?

    • @OnlineArcheryAcademy
      @OnlineArcheryAcademy  4 роки тому +1

      Good question - it depends on the interplay between grip height and stabiliser setup. I wouldn't recommend one or the other without seeing you shoot, but would definitely encourage you to play around a lot - trying different heights and not being afraid to make your own grip and experiment is the way forwards :)

    Do you suggest a grip customization, and how?

      Definitely! Here's a blog post I wrote about how to do it:

    I am a lefty, but my coach insists that it’s better for me to hold the bow with my left hand and to release the arrow with my right hand. I am not sure if this right. But, I am following his instructions as he is the expert and I am just a newbie. I am afraid that after time of training with my right hand holding the bow, I discover that I should been holding the bow with my right hand and release with my left. any advices?

  • @RobertWilliams82-22

    Why are recurve grips so much more wide then compound? A few Compound coaches say that a wider grip give the bow more probability of hand torque… is that true? I feel that a larger more flat surface is easier to push straight then a narrow surface

    What if I make a 4 finger "fist" on the left of the grip?

    • @OnlineArcheryAcademy
      @OnlineArcheryAcademy  4 роки тому

      A fist sounds a little too tight...I'd say try not to allow the finger tips to touch the palm of the hand :)

      If you're right handed, you need a RH bow :) But you will hold it in your left hand!

    So I've only just realised that my lifeline is mutated 😅 it's split in two, and I've a lot closer on of a lifeline to the thumb/pad area than many people and that's caused me to have consistent errors in my bowhand, feeling weak and shooting pains up the wrist, and unable to point thumb
