- Hi! Welcome to my video! In this video I share what my first day of school as a K12 online student. I am a student with NCVA (North Carolina Virtual Academy) and I am now in the 8th grade. This is a grwm school addition and I talk a little bit about how the online school works. Our story
Hello! We are The Bratchers!!!We are a family of six, Johnathan, Melissa, Chyna, Tyree, Chaniya, and Chyloh. We came all the way from Colorado, until God led our family to North Carolina. Now, why did he do that? Great question! He called us to lead and be a pastor family. It was a big jump to move across the country, but now we’re here! Years ago, we made this UA-cam channel, but it wasn’t “Meet The Bratchers”, it was “His Abiding Presence”. We didn’t post much, so UA-cam wasn’t going anywhere for us until July 2018. Chaniya found a passion for blogging and editing, so we got back on UA-cam, and filmed a video about our 1st annual Christmas in July giveaway! Then, we started getting in the hang of it. Not only did we start making more videos, we changed our UA-cam channel to Meet The Bratchers. So, are you ready to become apart of the Brat fam? On my first day I cried and had a mental breakdown bc I thought it would be horrible but it’s very easy to find your assignments, teachers get back with you fast, there is clubs, and it’s nice to be at home! Me too, we’re u able to go to the orientation? It’s so confusing me and my mom have no idea what’s going in and when we can they just tell us the website has answers for us and then website just takes us to call the school for help so it’s just a constant back and forwards thing.

Hello! I was wondering how does things work in k-12. Like do you have to do presentations? How do tests work do you just take them? Does it feel like you have a lot of work? I just wanted to know because I’ve been thinking about unrolling in my public school online teaching haha.
Also I’m a sophomore I’m thinking of changing for junior year. And one last question is do you have to turn your camera on at all? Haha thank u
Hey Tori!😃 I apologize for responding late! This all depends on the teacher. I will give you a few points that will be somewhat similar to all classes in K12. Most of the tests will be systematically graded so you will just take a quiz/test and you will get your score. Sometimes there will be written responses so you will have to wait for your teacher to grade it to get your points for those specific questions. In my opinion, the work is either equal to or easier than brick and mortar schools. It definitely will prepare your for college (especially online college) so in a since it is better to have a bit of a challenge to prepare you for your future.😁 Thank you so much for asking, I hope I was able to help! @@toributler744 Again, it does depend on your school and teacher BUT you MOST LIKELY will NOT have to turn on your camera. I was NEVER required to turn on my camera in class. But, you will have to turn your camera on for State tests every quarter of the school year.
How many classes you have?
Do you get weekday breaks like public schools? For my school we get Saturday and sunday off and then start school work again on mondays. Do you get weekends off from work on k12?

Heyy!✨ Oh okay! My first piece of advice is DO NOT worry! EVERYTHING will work itself out. I felt EXACTLY like that when I first started, but once you learn, it’ll become a habit because you’ll be doing it everyday!
Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions! Communicate (email) with your adviser, administrators, or if it’s a tech related question, call or use the help chat from K12’s customer service! (You can keep up with this link here😊-->www.help.k12.com/s/)

Yes and no. It depends on what kind of student you are. If you are independent and can get everything you need done without an adult keeping you on track, then no. But if you need that help to keep yourself on track and on schedule, then it will be best to have a learning coach with you! No, you do not go in person school for K12. The only time you need to go in person are monthly outings (that was before Covid and it’s optional) and also for EOGs. (End of Course tests at the end of the year).

The process is probably a lot different from when I enrolled (before pandemic), but if you speak to customer service they can get you taken care of.😊
There are some states who doesn’t have Virtual Academies. Unfortunately, Tennessee Virtual Academy only serves grades K-8. If your daughter is still in Elementary or Middle school, then this will work until she starts 9th grade (high school)

Question my sister is starting 8th grade in K12 for printing do you have to print a lot or not only asking bc my parents have to travel for work sometimes and my sister will have to go with them
It depends on the class. For my science class I had to print out student guides every day. But I did have the option of writing the questions, vocab, and answers

Nope! The curriculum was fairly straightforward and I was able to pass all my classes with an A and rarely a B😊

Yes they send you books and a computer if you need one. You will have online teachers. You just need a parent to make sure you are getting your work done. Hope this helps

@@bluestarnorthstar6960 well the classes per student are different I’m in 8th grade and I have less classes than I did in 7th I’m not sure about 6th but maybe around 5 and the teachers are really nice and there’s office hours so if you have questions about something you can join them or private message them a question in class. There’s also counselors if you need them i do get stressed still but everyone does from time to time I just released you asked how many students and not classes oopsie maybe around 20-30 you can go back and rewatch the classes if you missed anything if there’s a recording which for almost every class there is but there’s those if you need to go back and rewatch something or need to take missed notes I’m sorry I’m answering more than what you asked😭
I’m not sure how the kids are I don’t really talk to them I keep to myself almost all the time and If you don’t feel like reading you can ask if another kid can okay I’ll be quiet now and let you read this😅

Hey! Unfortunately, this is an issue that is hard to explain. Some states have already closed their enrollment until a later date. What is the status of the school that you are planning to enroll to?
Hey, I’m looking into starting to do homeschooling in k12 but I don’t have a teaching coach, I’m home alone all day until 4. Can I still join k12 with out a parent being home while I’m in my live classes?? To whoever answer this comment it will mean so much to me ❣️
Hello, you dont need a teaching coach because you will have teachers online for that but, you do have to have someone that will keep you accountable. Someone that will take responsibility and make sure you attend class and that you are turning in your work, you have to turn in your hours at the end of the week. You have live classes with your teachers and you have to be logged in whenever they are scheduled for you to attend.

You have to turn in your live class hours and work assignment time. To keep track of your attendance. They will explain it once you have signed up with them.

What time do you go to bed to wake up at 5:00 am. I need to know bc I’m doing k-12 this year!
It depends on how much sleep your body needs. But I would say 9:30 to get an average of about 7 hours of sleep.😊✨
Looks very disorganized tbh . How long are each classes ? What time are you dismissed for the day ? What time is lunch ? The remote learning for public school was very organized and I thought this program would be better .
Hello!🙂The whole point of being online is the flexibility, so it may seem disorganized to you but that’s what works for me.😊
To sum up all of your questions, it depends on your schedule. You have to fill in whatever you do in between class breaks. (K12 doesn’t tell you when your lunch time is, it’s whenever you have that break from class.) For example, this was my schedule last school year
History 8:30-9:10
Science 9:14-10:45
ELA 11:30-12:10
Math 12:15-1:00
As an independent student, I would make my own schedule on what I wanted to do in between my breaks. And after my last class, I could do whatever I wanted. (classwork, projects, etc)

Unfortunately, I cannot answer this question because I’m not logical about that particular academy.

This is my second year of online school after 1 normal year and a few years of hectic public school during covid. I went to connections academy and go to Astravo now. I love the school I go to, it's my first year of HS so I decided to go to this school because they have sooo many electives to choose from. I have 1 class a day and some online assignments, and other than that I get to help my family a lot and have mostly my own schedule.

When I was in K12 (last year), cameras were optional. But I’m not sure if they changed that.

I did this program 2 school years ago andi did it for 4 years it was ok but the kids in the school was very much wannabes but for the most part I had a good time and experience except the time my teacher started threatening kids but yea I hoped you enjoyed the experience

For me, I have my main subjects (math, science, ELA, & Social Studies) everyday. Then I had my elective once a week. Your schedule may be different due to state or grade level.😊

Middle school is a very sensitive time… it really shapes who you will become in high school and even adulthood. I was online to enjoy time with my family and had flexibility to go on trips and events. Overall, everyone has their own reasons; hope I answered you question.😊

I will not be attending K12 this year.😕The only reason why I’m leaving is because I got accepted into a Early College High School.✨Which means in 4 years, I’ll graduate with a high school diploma and an associates degree. Since I want to work in the medical field, this will speed up that process a bit. I think K12 is great and I would still be enrolled if I didn’t get accepted into my preferred high school or if they had the same program.😊

@@karymesoto3925 it is an online program it's called K12 or Stride. You have teachers online. They send you the materials that you will need. I hope this helps.
