As a kid myself i hate k12. Im 7th going to 8th and holy is it hard. There is sooo much work and a whole lot of reading. Teachers dont teach you, you teach yourself with the work they give you/mainly reading. And when you attend there classes the most they'll do is answer a few questions and play a 5-13 min video and thats mainly it. Ive been in k12 sense 6th and ive only recently FINALLY figured out how to use the website fully which is an issue in it of its self. Even with this pandemic id rather attend public school.

And I agree with you on the screen time, it is too much and there is way too much to go thru just to complete and turn in work. Its not for everyone. We did it for 2nd and 3rd grade and it was the best thing for my son. It wasn't too much for us. There is screen time, but they also have screen time at a b&m school too. The lessons are online, then the student work book (not always). Lessons are not more than an hour and my son was able to get it done in less than that time. There is a learning curve, but after a few months in you should have it down. We ended up doing a block schedule as that worked the best for us. The next year, we forgot the block schedule and it still worked out great.
Although it's still a public school I still feel like it's homeschooling. I learned so much from teaching my son in first grade. And I was very happy with their program it actually made me want to teach him more it made me feel a lot more confident about my skills as a mother when it comes to teaching my son. We learned about diagraphs triograph and many other things science for first grade he learned about molecules and matter I tell you it was an amazing experience. I've looked into buying the K12 individual packages that they have for math as well as English he's in public school now but I really love how they teach so I'm just going to add that to his schooling just for some extra attention in terms of math and reading. I hope everyone finds what they're looking for in their journey of homeschooling their children we love you and we don't know you but we still love you anyway stay safe during this pandemic thank you.

It actually depend on the school. We didn't have to at our online public school (under K12). I did see many b&m public schools require it during covid but because they were teaching via zoom. It wasn't all virtual.
I tried using k12. It is horrible. It isn't even homeschool... like you said it is public school at home. You have to do the state testing yearly too. There is so much more paperwork & makes life so much more stressful. You are stuck to the computer going to certain class times on top of classwork. Thank you for this review.

My experience with K12 for first grade was a bit overwhelming because I didn't ask the right questions. At the end of the semester I found out that you can tailor the curriculum to your child's need specifically so if you only want math and reading the core subjects you can choose that option. I myself love the fact that he has screen time he's online because the way that they teach the students is so amazing I would recommend K12 to anyone for their first experience.
It might not be so bad with just one child. Let me know how it goes. Remember nothing is ever permanent. You can always change things later on. Many homeschooling parents have. Adapt and Improvise when needed :)

As a homeschooling mother of 6 children, I am giving you my opinion of what is the best long term sustainable, highly academic, education at home. Sorry you consider it an informercial. The only free accredited school programs are public school are home, you can just take your pick of them since they follow some same standardized model with few nuances.
Because my daughter is a recent cancer survivor and her oldest son (going into 6th grade) has asthma, they don't have a choice but to keep them home for the current term, and likely the complete year. I respect parents who have the good fortune to do homeschooling for their children, but they need both incomes to survive and this is a temporary solution to a frustrating problem. I'm just frustrated at the problem facing them with such chaos at the school and it seems I'm not going to find helpful information on youtube.
Does K12 offer flexible hours or does my child need to be logged in at certain times? I work full time and our local school systems are not social distancing, wearing mask, or offering a homeschool options. Our county is currently in the red for COVID cases. I need something I can do after work with my child.
I don't know how it is now. If the online classes are still optional, then you don't have to log in at certain times. I think it's way too much to keep up with for a working mom. I would look into the Robinson Curriculum or another self teaching curriculum.
No, it has no formal accreditation. However, homeschooling is legal in all 50 states and I do help parents with transcripts and other issues through my coaching business.

I am incredibly late, but I’d just like to say that I have adhd and I am able to hyper-focus on screens. I literally cannot read even a paragraph without having audio to go along in a physical book. I’m not talking for everyone here, just for myself.

What's so bad about being accountable to a team who's helping to educate my child? I looked at Robinson, and just said, "ooooooohhhh"... It's designed by a person who wanted to keep their kids from the world in general, so all you said here made sense once I watched that. I personally like k12, and feel extremely confident that my kiddo is learning material that properly prepares him for life. Tech is included... Life moves on--keeping kids away from screens altogether will leave a kiddo in the dust. We're "good Christians" and whatever that facade implies, and we love k12.
Yes I agree. My kids were very overwhelmed. They had multiple online classes throughout the day so we had no flexibility. And it was taking them about 10 hours a day to finish their work. They are so much happier now that we switched to rc.

I do have a son that has an IEP. You can also check connections academy, sequoia online, pretty much just search for virtual public school in your state.

There is homeschooling and then public school at home. You can withdraw from the public school and comply with your state homeschool requirements and do your own thing. You could then change your mind and register her in public school again but I think you will find, what you can do on your own is light years better than the public school model.

We tried a virtual academy through our state for one of our high school kids and we lasted 1 quarter. They literally told me they couldn't give her credit from some of her homeschool classes because there wasn't a box for it. One such class was a course called library science. Through our local library our daughter accumulated around 180 hours of volunteer time and was trained and tested as a library page. It was so much work. She was spending 10 to 12 hours a day on school. I contacted her homeroom teacher and he said, "is she doing all the work assigned? I said yes and he replied with, "she's an A student she should just stop doing some of the assignments. We assign extra work for the kids who struggle." So if my A student was spending 10 to 12 hours per day how long did the kids who were struggling spend on work? And there is more that went on and we finally said this is not for us.
I’m assuming “they” was the virtual academy. I’ve never heard of the class your daughter took. Personally it sounds like she volunteered for something outside of school. Some schools though won’t give credit for a course they don’t themselves have available. For example, my daughter b&m school doesn’t offer courses that other schools do offer in our state. So if you were to transfer schools, it would be on your transcript, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it would become a credit at that new school towards graduation. For homeschooling, you have to be sure you are teaching the core classes (ELA, Math, Science, History, etc) and electives your state requires in order to graduate.
@@mstinamichele yes, the public schools do not encourage "out of the box learning". So sad. I'm grateful my 3 oldest daughters were all allowed to do a library internship at our local library. Our librarians loved having responsible teenagers to train and work in the library. My teenagers enjoyed the paycheck after their training was over. We counted it as an elective, however, the virtual academy told me because they didn't have a "box" labeled for library internship she would not get credit for it. No worries, after one quarter we realized we didn't like our learning being limited by checking off their boxes and we withdrew from the program. We are starting our 22nd year of homeschooling. It's going so fast! Only 13 years left and then my homeschooling days are over.
@@momof7blessings The virtual academy should have used their words more appropriately. That was just a bad way to say it. They should have made it clear that either library science wasn't offered there as a credit course or was not transferrable as a credit to their school. With my daughter, she had one credit that didn't apply towards graduation and had to take an extra class to make it up. She had one that was a college credit earned in HS and it didn't apply towards her college degree because I selected the wrong elective. Then when she transferred from a 2 year college to a 4 year college, not all her credits transferred over in that case either. So a lot of time was wasted, but we didn't know. My son starts HS this year, so w/him, I'll be more aware of his credits so he's not backtracking to make anything up. I'm glad to hear everything is working out now for you.

All School Teachers should work 12 months a year. When classes are not in session, Teachers could do Administrative work and perform other tasks, based on their skill-pool attributes. In the long run, this would save School Districts money in that they wouldn't have to hire as many people to perform non-teaching jobs. Physical plant duties could also be done in that manor. Simplistically hat better way to fix the furnace, by a Shop Teacher with help from Industrial Arts Students (if in session). Schools being self-sufficient, will minimal exceptions, is not only good & practical education, but more cost effective & easing the tax burdens on residents of the District. Any to be more cost-effective to a School District, WITHOUT compromising the Educational standards for the students, would be a feather in the cap for the learning process. School Districts, based on their relative student body size, should not have to have an Assistant Principal in EACH school building. They should travel back & forth between the schools, on an as-needed basis. Another and even more practical cost-cutting measure was mentioned at the onset of this writing. The idea of utilizing School Teachers all year long would be a PROFOUND way of Districts getting more-bang-for-the-buck. Hypothetical situation: If a Teacher was employed by a School District for 40 years, they only actually performed 30 years of work. Another much-needed change, for School Districts in general, would be to contour sessions based on the local weather. In other words, in School Districts that ensure harsh winters, have the three-month-off sessions then. It would not only be more practical with respect to not having snow days or putting students & bus drivers at risk, but also taking away the necessity to have so much time off for the Holidays. It would be a win-win situation for all. I'm surprised this has never been implemented in the past?
i see people in the comments saying that they had to spend 10 hours a day doing work for k12. that was not the case for me. for 7th grade i only spent around 2-3 hours a day doing work, had great freedom, and enjoyed every second of it. the time you spend doing work at k12 may vary , depending on state, grade, ect. hoping 8th grade will go the same.

Texas is different than most other states. They require the student to do b&m for at least 1 year before enrolling in an online public school (some Texas law). I believe, online public school starts at 3rd grade for Texas. I do recommended going through K12 (aks Stride), but I believe your 1st grader will have to find something else. Just do some research on google for Texas to find out their rules for online public school.

Would you use RC for an 11th grader. My 16 year old does not to be in the public school system he is currently in. He’s behind in his studies, ADHD and part of the 504 plan in school. How easy would this be for the two of us.
I wish you could collaborate with Robinson curriculum and make a more modern version without the book binding and bring some modern books into it. I absolutely love the concept you would be an amazing leader for this!

I'd like to say that as a K12 Stride parent, whose child has excelled in academia, this is a very personally opinionated video. The details are extremely lacking the details of K12 Stride, and more of a promotion of RC. (She's probably getting a kickback from RC, just an observation.) The extremely little she noted on K12 Stride and how it works is not completely correct, nor does it explain anything in truth. For your own sake, do your own research and do not pay attention to videos like this.
I don’t get a kickback. It’s just what I use and after 6 kids and a decade of homeschooling, it’s the only method I have found sustainable and enjoyable for the whole family. Of course others can have a different experience, but this is just MY personal experience and observations.

I may only have been medically blessed with one child, compared to your six, but every child, every family, and every method of learning works differently for everyone. It was so much work. She was spending 10 to 12 hours a day on school. I contacted her homeroom teacher and he said, "is she doing all the work assigned? I said yes and he replied with, "she's an A student she should just stop doing some of the assignments. We assign extra work for the kids who struggle." So if my A student was spending 10 to 12 hours per day how long did the kids who were struggling spend on work? And there is more that went on and we finally said this is not for us.

I’m assuming “they” was the virtual academy. I’ve never heard of the class your daughter took. Personally it sounds like she volunteered for something outside of school. Some schools though won’t give credit for a course they don’t themselves have available. For example, my daughter b&m school doesn’t offer courses that other schools do offer in our state. So if you were to transfer schools, it would be on your transcript, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it would become a credit at that new school towards graduation. For homeschooling, you have to be sure you are teaching the core classes (ELA, Math, Science, History, etc) and electives your state requires in order to graduate.
@@mstinamichele yes, the public schools do not encourage "out of the box learning". So sad. I'm grateful my 3 oldest daughters were all allowed to do a library internship at our local library. Our librarians loved having responsible teenagers to train and work in the library. My teenagers enjoyed the paycheck after their training was over. We counted it as an elective, however, the virtual academy told me because they didn't have a "box" labeled for library internship she would not get credit for it. No worries, after one quarter we realized we didn't like our learning being limited by checking off their boxes and we withdrew from the program. We are starting our 22nd year of homeschooling. It's going so fast! Only 13 years left and then my homeschooling days are over.
@@momof7blessings The virtual academy should have used their words more appropriately. That was just a bad way to say it. They should have made it clear that either library science wasn't offered there as a credit course or was not transferrable as a credit to their school. With my daughter, she had one credit that didn't apply towards graduation and had to take an extra class to make it up. She had one that was a college credit earned in HS and it didn't apply towards her college degree because I selected the wrong elective. Then when she transferred from a 2 year college to a 4 year college, not all her credits transferred over in that case either. So a lot of time was wasted, but we didn't know. My son starts HS this year, so w/him, I'll be more aware of his credits so he's not backtracking to make anything up. I'm glad to hear everything is working out now for you.

You have to report to multiple teachers with multiple kids for in person schools too. So I am not sure how that is different.

All School Teachers should work 12 months a year. When classes are not in session, Teachers could do Administrative work and perform other tasks, based on their skill-pool attributes. In the long run, this would save School Districts money in that they wouldn't have to hire as many people to perform non-teaching jobs. Physical plant duties could also be done in that manor. Simplistically hat better way to fix the furnace, by a Shop Teacher with help from Industrial Arts Students (if in session). Schools being self-sufficient, will minimal exceptions, is not only good & practical education, but more cost effective & easing the tax burdens on residents of the District. Any to be more cost-effective to a School District, WITHOUT compromising the Educational standards for the students, would be a feather in the cap for the learning process. School Districts, based on their relative student body size, should not have to have an Assistant Principal in EACH school building. They should travel back & forth between the schools, on an as-needed basis. Another and even more practical cost-cutting measure was mentioned at the onset of this writing. The idea of utilizing School Teachers all year long would be a PROFOUND way of Districts getting more-bang-for-the-buck. Hypothetical situation: If a Teacher was employed by a School District for 40 years, they only actually performed 30 years of work. Another much-needed change, for School Districts in general, would be to contour sessions based on the local weather. In other words, in School Districts that ensure harsh winters, have the three-month-off sessions then. It would not only be more practical with respect to not having snow days or putting students & bus drivers at risk, but also taking away the necessity to have so much time off for the Holidays. It would be a win-win situation for all. I'm surprised this has never been implemented in the past?
i see people in the comments saying that they had to spend 10 hours a day doing work for k12. that was not the case for me. for 7th grade i only spent around 2-3 hours a day doing work, had great freedom, and enjoyed every second of it. the time you spend doing work at k12 may vary , depending on state, grade, ect. hoping 8th grade will go the same.

I think virtual K12 is in all the states, they are all pretty much the same.
Texas is different than most other states. They require the student to do b&m for at least 1 year before enrolling in an online public school (some Texas law). I believe, online public school starts at 3rd grade for Texas. I do recommended going through K12 (aks Stride), but I believe your 1st grader will have to find something else. Just do some research on google for Texas to find out their rules for online public school.

Continental academy is how I got my diploma. Its not free though.
K 12 says it’s for everyone but that’s not true. You MUST have at least a 3.0 to qualify. No exceptions

Our homeschooled kids are highschool age and they have grown to be awesome athletes , athletically very much eligible for scholarships. We are looking for a way to gain the NCAA approved accreditation, like typical public school or approved program, to keep them eligible for scholarships.

I'd like to say that as a K12 Stride parent, whose child has excelled in academia, this is a very personally opinionated video. The details are extremely lacking the details of K12 Stride, and more of a promotion of RC. (She's probably getting a kickback from RC, just an observation.)
The extremely little she noted on K12 Stride and how it works is not completely correct, nor does it explain anything in truth.
For your own sake, do your own research and do not pay attention to videos like this.
I don’t get a kickback. It’s just what I use and after 6 kids and a decade of homeschooling, it’s the only method I have found sustainable and enjoyable for the whole family. Of course others can have a different experience, but this is just MY personal experience and observations.

I may only have been medically blessed with one child, compared to your six, but every child, every family, and every method of learning works differently for everyone. It is only appropriate to give up to date facts, and details, no matter how long you've been with one program over another.
