How I built a 3D printed CNC - inspired by WorkBee

- My 3D printed cnc works great! Can precisely cut foam, wood, plastic or aluminum to depths greater than 200mm! I made it inspired by the "WorkBee CNC", but the pieces have been modified to make them suitable for 3D printing. I still have to do several experiments with aluminum, maybe I will make a tank for cooling the piece. This video has no sponsored components, all the parts I used I bought them myself.

working with dad on a cool project is priceless!
The music, the editing, the engineering, the rendering, the resourcefulness. Thanks man, you're a perfectionist, we share the same world, your videos are amazing, you'll go far.
Thank you very much 😊
That is very cool! Nicely done!
Awesome project and réalisation. Well done mate and Thanks for sharing
Masterpiece !! Congratulations !!
Great! I’ve done the same with openbuilds design that are available for free online. I can say that PLA is working great , and even I am working the CNC with nema 17 is strong and accurate .
The catch in these type of constructions is to calculate the amount of components correctly, otherwise it can cost A LOT... been there...
Great effort!
Looking forward to the next video!
amazing video and machine result
Great project - Dads are awesome 😍
Nice!! I also did a cnc using 3d-printed parts with similar size but different approach with linear guides. I also used the same spindle from parkside, very good price!! After a while I changed to a makita (710w) and it made a huge difference!!! More power and larger collet. I’m sure your machine would bennift from that as well. It’s a great looking cnc but I think it can be even better!!
Thank you. Very interesting. It will mean that I will try the makita.
Well looks like i need to 3d print a lathe first.
Lol jokes aside, great work!
You did a fantastic Job by providing all necessary documentation. That is called as Real Demonstration. Wish You luck for your channel and work. Thanks
very nice,thanks.
Te quedó genial la CNC. Felicidades! Mis 10!
¡Muchas gracias!
That's a great build, much better than my MPCNC!
Nice bro..good job...waiting next video for the review...
well done. Hi from Iceland 🇮🇸
good modeling
Congratulations great work muy especial te quedo
I've got a MPCNC, but I'd love to build this, can't wait to see how this evolves into aluminum +1 subscriber.
Awesome.! Projects with dada last a lifetime. That's the warranty.!
Muy buen trabajo 👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻
Nice project, great video skills too! Now that you can cut aluminum will you replace the 3D printed parts? Or is it not accurate enough due to all the plastic parts?
Great video! I’m interested in a build guide and files. Are they available?
Absolutely brilliant! Im looking forward to build one and your video was the most complete I could find! I´ll get into it next week! Thanks a lot! Yours animations are incredible, what software did you use?
Hi! Thank you! I used cinema 4D for the animation.
Maaan! Congrats for the work and the effort you've put with the video. I HOPE some day I will be able to make one of this! Would you think to make a set of plans to build it??
Thank you very much. I think I will make the download of the 3D files available.
Are you going to release a dedicated parts list for this build? Thats the main thing holding me back right now. Also, how long where your extrusions? 1meter C gantry and 1.5meter for X axis?
Fantastic build, have you got a list of parts that you can post?
Thank you so much for showing this and you know the best part for me?? The co=operation between you both, that's the best thing
awesome video mate! Nicely done and enjoyed the beginning shots showing the capabilities of the machine. Just curious why you choose to print the parts in PLA?
I tried with ABS but I couldn't print such large pieces well...
Nice.
Awesome design Lorenzo. I have a question, did you use that 5mm Bore Eccentric Spacer Nuts anywhere in the project ? Or just printed Eccentric spacers ?
hey man, great project, do you think if i purchase your plans i could make it work with linear rails instead of wheels?
hello thank you so much for sharing something as beautiful as this to make our own cnc woorkbee :D !!!! I'm sorry I'm very excited about the project and I'm about to buy the profiles, compare 150mm x 150mm profiles, I would like to know if they are v-slot or t-slot profiles and could you tell me more, fewer screws and of what size, thank you very much :D!!!! really what a beautiful project.
@Lorenzo Battistino
Hello, I have downloaded the files from patreon. The Z axis carriage does not have the correct holes for the eccentric parts. Could you tell me how you have assembled everything if the holes are not with the proper diameter. The problem is in the eccentric screws and nuts that are responsible for adjusting the wheels with bearings against the aluminum profile.
i also need the stl files if you can kindly share or let us know where to get them please
I'm working on it, stay tuned.
That thing is roBUSTY. You 100% just convinced me I need to make my own
Great project, and within my price range. Thank you. I'd love to get your design files, but I can't seem to get past a giant moving arrow in the upper left of the page that is apparently supposed to point toward an 'Allow' button which doesn't exist. I've tried both links. Win 10, MS Edge (Chromium based). Allowing ads does not fix the problem.
don't use adblock.
open the link and wait a few seconds, then click on "next" at the top right. If it doesn't go with the first link, use the second one. Don't allow anything.
Hey. you use 4 stepper motor, each one working with 4amph. but you have 10amph power supply. is it working or is it enough?
Hi! the drivers are set to 3 Ampere of power (if I remember correctly). The cnc has no problem, I never lost steps ... in any case, installing an additional power supply is always done in time. However, setting the hardware at maximum power with such a weak structure does not help much.
hallo ... great work lorenzo and I try to make it.... I have to print the files, and for "W_Z-Plate" and " long eccentric" spacer it does not fit or some update???...thanks for sharing....
i have same issue, I have checked the 3d full assembled file, and there is the same problem, the long eccentric does not fit the W_Z-Plate... did you fix it ? @azalaka 22
@@MikeJones-wq4qv yes... I try but not yet to assamble all...
Awesome work! Would you mind telling us roughly how much does it cost? Not considering 3d printed parts and your design/build time
thanks! the cost is around € 400
both gantry and spindle looks very ligth! No need for 23 nema
Ciao Lorenzo!
Congrats. Looks awesome. Where did you get the 3d printed files? Is that an LED light around the cutting head? Cool
thanks for reporting, I have updated the link
Hi , congratz for your Project. Can I suggest changing the Y-Axis motors from the front to the rear, besides being unsightly it's not so functional, 5 years ago I made a machine in MDF that had this design, it was horrible to have the motors where we positioned ourselves with the body to access the machine. Greetings from Portugal.
Just downloaded your 3d files, any chance you have a parts list somewhere?
NO WORDS! I received a quotation for one CNC and It's expensive! Thanks! I will keep this to do it in the future!
this machine is sooo sick
will you mind sharing your build plans
i would like to make one

Are there any designs for a Makita router mount? Also, is there a reason why you mounted the Y Axis stepper motors in the front instead of the back?
I've designed the Dremel support like my parkside Dremel... The Makita support is much more used than my, probably is already designed by someone.. have u try to search Online a 3d model? On thinginverse site digit "Makita support"...
For the second answer: the reason is for use short cable and reduce the interference ... But you can reverse the installation if you don't use Arduino as board controller. Arduino have many interference.
@@lorenzobattistino3430 Thank you Lorenzo. I have not looked but I will definitely take a look around the internet. If I can't find anything then I will most likely design my own. And thank you for explaining your stepper motor orientation. I didn't think that there was a difference but I wanted to check with you. I'm currently using a Blackbox GRBL controller on my MPCNC which I would move over to this if I decide to build it so there shouldn't be any interference issues.
What is the minimum size of the printable area? My printer is an Ender 3.
Im curious how has this held up at this point? Is everything still straight on the Z and X axis? Thanks
It resisted everything, a few months ago they managed to mill mdf wood and I replaced some 3D printed pieces. Next step, replace everything with aluminum.
Thank you for the video! I'm starting to build one too. The link for the files seems to to be blocked now?
I'm able to download the files now, maybe it's fixed?
everything works!
@@lorenzobattistino3430 thank you! I’m just working on the electrical part now, but should be finished soon!
So I got it working! I have 2 questions if you or someone else can answer. The stepper motors seem to get pretty hot, is that normal? They have plenty of airflow, is current to suppose to be flowing in it all the time? My other question(s) is when it starts to move it makes a loud annoying creak noise as if it need lubricant. Not sure if you've had the same issue?
The Heat Is not normal... Try to change the setting of the driver and reduce the ampere. The machine make some noise but Is normal....
@@lorenzobattistino3430 I’ll try that. Thank you!
Hi, which is size of alluminium profiles? Thanks.
hi, 80x40 mm ! openbuildspartstore.com/c-beam-linear-rail/
Howdy. Very nice project. But i can't get some parts printed with my ender3 pro. The bed is too small ex. N_Spalla_LH is too big for the bed. How did you get the parts fitted on the bed.. Thanks in advance
In cura setting you must modify the bed dimension. At the moment I don't remember the number.... Set the dimension to large possible.
@@lorenzobattistino3430 thank you.
Try disable the skirt option, this will allow you to print to the maximum size. Means, print directly without any skirt, brim or bed.
Hello, really good job! What is the final cost of this cnc?
400€ approximately
You and your daddy are awesome
What is the printing surface area?
Hello, Mr. Lorenzo, can you tell me the numbers of the stepper motors you used?
Hi 4 motors
Ciao Lorenzo
Ciao, grazie mille! ci sto lavorando!
@@lorenzobattistino3430 Potresti dirmi per favore se a ancora in piedi la CNC ? ...oppure hai dovuto sostituire i pezzi stampati in 3D
Grazie tante
@@lorenzobattistino3430 Grazie tante
thanks so much for file stl from u i want to ask u it can cutting aluminium u can make video from this :)
Hi. I tried downloading the 3D but it is not possible. Could you check the link. I get swamped by ads and I never get to a download page. :( already tried 20 times.
thanks for reporting, I have updated the link
hello do you give step file of this project if buy this in patron
How much infill for the printing parts?
There is info in the video.
What is the tolerance and accuracy like?
I don't know ... it's an extra low cost project. We are satisfied
😯😮😲😳🤯
What's the total part cost?
Is there another way to download the files? Both of the included links are blocked by my virus software.
thanks for reporting, I have updated the link
I love the design but it really would be helpful if you could provide a bill of materials used. IE quantities, sizes etc. Thanks!
Thanks. In the link in description you can download the 3d of the entire structure with all the pieces .... making the BOM is an unjustified job for an open source project like this.
How big is the work surface?
it says in the video!
when I click on the download 3d files I get an internet scam site, on both links. where can i get these files
thanks for reporting, I have updated the link
Is that homebrew in the background?
Yes
@@lorenzobattistino3430 fucking love it! I brew Coopers kits, and do open source CNC. The future shines brightly on us.
Hello I can’t download your file ? Why ? Thanks
thanks for reporting, I have updated the link
the "$400" in parts bit seems a bit misleading, maybe $400 in the construction, but those electronic, Mach 3 license and the mini pc combined would blow the $400 away quickly
you have to stock up in the right places! :)
hello friend
Shema?
Hi can you sher files for printing part?
I'm working on it, stay tuned.
