I JUST fixed my running toilet. The commode was a 2018 install, so it had the knob adjustment for the water level built in. A simple few twist to the level, negative (-) to reduce the water level and "WALA". Magic. No more running toilet and no money spent.💪🏾 Thank you for this amazingly handle and to the point video. I'm a DIY girl and this did the trick.
This was such a well made tutorial. The flapper was the problem and it was exactly what you mentioned - the flapper rim was bent/developed an indentation. This saved me a ton of money and time. The leak from my toilet flush is finally fixed. Thanks a lot!
Fantastic Rahul Argula!! Great job figuring out the problem and fixing it. It's amazing how the sometimes the problem can be as simple as the flapper. Keep up the good work :D
After watching your video, I was able to fix it! A rubber at the bottom of the siphon came off which caused it to run! I found it at the bottom of the tank and simply put it back on and it worked! It saved me $500 bucks!
This helped! My dad fixed the chain on the toilet today and made it too long and it was getting caught in the flapper! I had no idea that was even a problem that could be had. Was able to fix my problem before the end of the video! Thank you!
Very helpful...2am in the morning and I'm watching your video because our toilet is dripping so loud. Tightened the screw and BAM problem fixed. Thank you very helpful and informative 😊
Thanks man, when i would flush the water would rise. Thanks to your video i immediately knew the problem, it was the overflow pipe. But there wasnt a screw like the one you had. It was on top the floater, a long plastic like screw, turned it down, flushed, fixed
Thank you! I replaced the flapper and the toilet continued to run. I didn't know about adjusting the float to keep the water level below the run off pipe. Your video was very informative and easy to follow.
Hi Jeff. I had the over flow problem and after watching your video I was able to fix it. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You saved me a lot of stress and money!
Thanks for the video Jeff. My son has a toilet that keeps running in the toilet bowl. I tried changing the flapper but it still done the same thing. I did not think about the flapper valve having a crack in it. This video helped me a lot. Thanks again Jeff and have a Blessed Day.
Thank you! I needed to lower the float. Saved me from getting a plumber out here!! Btw, I’m a single 59 year old woman and I’ve saved so much money searching U-Tube for answers. This week I also put new trailering mirrors on my F150 myself because of a video.
Thank you thank you thank you! I'm not at all good at fixing things but this was something I was able to do with no problems at all. I've lived here for 3 months and the sounds of the running toilet was starting to make me crazy. 10 seconds later and I can feel my sanity returning!
Thank you!! I had no idea about tightening the screw to adjust the water level! When I checked, mine was way too high! Might have just fixed it myself rather than having to call a professional!!!
Scrolled through some of your bathroom toilet videos. I have learned my bleach tablets messed up my rubber stopper as well as how to fix it. My husband is in Korea and the toilet has running water now for 2 weeks. If I would have waited for him to come back and fix it it would have been another 9 month wait😂 just because he has had a vacation from me "nagging him to fix stuff". This Army wife thanks you. I have subscribed and if all goes well, why stop at fixing.. I should build something. 💖
Il be dammed.. This first diy video i have seen, and i am impressed.. Thank you kind sir for this wisdom you have bestowed upon me.. I will use it to teach my children in hopes they too will benefit from such wisdom.. I tip my hat to you sir...🎩
Thanks so much!! This was so helpful my chain was too long I wish I would have watched this sooner it would have saved me a ton of money on the water bill, also very easy to fix!
Hey Mr. Patterson! Here's one for ya. I have an AS Champion 4 also and since day one my water level in the bowl itself, not the tank is extremely low. I've tried everything, changed the seal, bought a new fluid master the one that says how to raise your water level in the bowl, but to no avail, sir! It rises to its point, but just leaks back out not letting the water stay put where it should be. So I have this friend of mine come over and he tells me that your siphon in the bowl when it wants to fill up is throwing your water out because it might be cracked. So I figure that if that were the case wouldn't t be leaking all over the floor? So heck I was told to check out your UA-cam channel.
Good video, short and to the point. Unfortunately my float has no way to adjust it, it's just a little metal rod that is attached to the float with a small bracket. I'm afraid to mess with moving it up and down.
Your video is really helpful, but I have a simple question for you. water keep coming out in my toilet. When I flush down, water goes down so weakly. is there any problem with a flapper? or what should i do to fix it?
You made an excellent video and you're given excellent service to all of us by offering email based help. You are a great man!! thank you thank you thank you!!
Thanks very much for your very clear instructions! I have a Toto (2008) toilet that when I sit on it and if I bump the toilet in the process, water is released into the tank continuously until I flush it again. I am hard of hearing so I don't always hear it. Thus, our water bill went up by $300 over 4 recent months. Any idea as to why this happens? Thanks!
I have a fill valve like the last one you showed, but there's no screw, only a hook and eye. The water definitely goes into the overflow pipe, but I can't find how to adjust the float level.
The arm of the black float ball is way to stiff to bend it in order to adjust the water level in the tank. It's easier and more precise to use the screw on the mechanism.
Great video! I've turned off the water, the tank is almost empty. It looks like the flapper needs replacing. Can I leave the toilet tank empty for a week or so without it causing any damage? It's the first type of float you showed, not a bulb. Thanks!
Kathy McClung sorry for the late reply, I'd opt to not leave it empty for that long. Only for fear the rubber gaskets might dry out. How did your repair go?
great video, thank you. How do I know what new flapper to buy? should I just look into the toilet tank or is there a universal one. Do you recommend certain systems that are better than others? thank you
My toilet was leaking for months and it would periodically make noises all day and night. Cleaning the flapper and the flush valve didn't work. Replacing the flapper with a red one for $5 from a big box store did the trick.
Thank you , this tips in your video worked for me. In my case the float was too high, and by screwing it to the left (adjusting the height) it resolved the issue. As a side note, I found that I also had to adjust the water shut off valve so that it balanced well with the float level. So for others having issues, try adjusting the float first and if that doesn"t work then follow by adjusting the water valve. :-)
I had to turn off the shut off valve, flush the toilet, adjust the float to the lowest point allowed by the float, then turned the water on again, and it went from typically being right at the edge to 1/2" below. Just adjusting the float did not work by itself.
Great video I have the bulb style. I fixed the water from going in the tube u lowering it the problem is now only noise is coming from the hole no water just a constant noise is it still something I need to adjust? Or does it need replacing
My flapper just won't shut. The weird thing is it started happening very early one morning about 4 am. On it's own! I heard the toilet running. No one had used it. Do I need to perform an exorcism on my toilet first? When I took off the lid, I saw where the flapper had not closed, so I closed it. But it happened again, on it's own. I heard it running again. This is a toilet in my 2nd bedroom, not in my bedroom. So just replacing the flapper will make this problem go away? By the way, I just had the flapper replaced about 1 year ago. It's still pretty new.
Jeff Patterson All in good fun. Hell, I didn't know how to stop my toilet from running till I watched this video so I guess the joke's on me! Worked though, thanks. Thumbs up!
hey thanks for the tutorial... but problem i am facing is that i am unable to open the flush tank lid made of CERAMIC material rather than plastic ... dont know where it is stuck exactly.
JEFF - thanks so much for the tutorial. Here is a new issue. The flapper (the red plastic thing) sticks open after we flush. How is that? Any ideas? Brandie
I've experienced this before Brandie Fennell and switched out the flapper for one that has plastic tabs instead of rubber. You could also try to to add petrolatum to the overflow pipe tabs and see if that will help the flapper go down. Let me know what you decide to do and how it turns out :D
I bought this house in 2016. It’s a 2005 modular. The previous owner upgraded everything including split flush handles. Lol Anyway, he was going to put a complete bathroom in the garage man cave. Everything is in there...buried in the back corner. Can anyone tell me BEFORE I spend hours unearthing the unused garage bathroom stuff, does a brand new toilet come with the fill valve? Thank you.

Got tired of my toilet and a friend suggested I replace the ball but u said to tighten the screw or something and I did and it stop running thank u!
sweet, great job
+KiowaPilotWife did the same thing and problem fixed thanks

YES! Thank you! :) I had to loosen it to lower it and also had to replace the flapper.. your video helped alot!
Excellent video thanks. My water was running after a flush. I twisted it the correct way. Now works thanks
Thank you so much! I tightened screw on top and it showed results immediately! Be bless always Amen
I don't know who you really are Jeff, but I think I love you. Thank you.
Thanks Shannon Brown - glad you liked the video :D
You are awesome! Great instructions to correct numerous issues. I just had to adjust a screw to repair my toilet.
Helped my fix that toilet in about 4 minutes. Thanks!
My mom had a problem with the toilet and thought she would need to call a plumber, I fixed it in a hot second, thank you soooooo much. :)
Awesome Paige!! Great job
Wow... two quick turns of a screwdriver and it's fixed. Thank you!.
My dad offered me 5 bucks to fix the toilet, and I had to tighten the screw so it took me only a minute and I got my money instantly! Thanks!

Thanks for your video my toilet 🚽 is fixed!😀
somebodys 'yanking my chain' chains; OK, OK; i'll try to keep to myself a little more; no need to waste any more toilet-water
Thanks. Quarantine made me a plumber.
thank you, this was good information. Do you think a video on Pex pipe and fittings would be a good idea?
yes, and we already did one

Yessenia Gonzalez you might need to replace the fill valve, it's about $10 and not that bad of a repair. You can totally do that fix :D

Lol, I'm not Rodney Dangerfield that's for sure. Although Rodney would have been hilarious in anything :D
Jeff Patterson All in good fun. Hell, I didn't know how to stop my toilet from running till I watched this video so I guess the joke's on me! Worked though, thanks. Thumbs up!
Totally cool ***** - I'm always thinking of ways to make these tutorials more fun. Thanks for watching the video :D
I did it!! This was super helpful!
So if I was having to much water in the tank and it was going into the over fill would that be the cause of my toilet not flushing properly?
hey thanks for the tutorial... but problem i am facing is that i am unable to open the flush tank lid made of CERAMIC material rather than plastic ... dont know where it is stuck exactly.
+Imran Mani hmm, never ran into that issue. It might just be stuck but be careful when trying to nudge it loose
My toilet valve thing looks different than both of these. There is no screw to tighten just a hook?
Thank you. That worked great!
JEFF - thanks so much for the tutorial. Here is a new issue. The flapper (the red plastic thing) sticks open after we flush. How is that? Any ideas? Brandie

Can anyone tell me BEFORE I spend hours unearthing the unused garage bathroom stuff, does a brand new toilet come with the fill valve?

How do I adjust the water level if there is no screw?
Thx man your vid are the best and easyest to understand
silverglove2012 thanks :D
Thanks! That pointed me in the right direction. :)
