Geo metro transmission issue fixed !!!!!

- If you have a Geo Metro that starts up in third gear you have a faulty TCM. Symptoms include very low power when you first start the car and it works normally if you shift the car manually. If you have these problems you have a faulty C3 and C5 capacitor on the TCM. This fixed my car for sure.
I would give you a brotherly hug if I had you close. After a year of searching, I found the solution thanks to your video, the changes of my geo meter 1.0 revived!
Thank you really, thank you
I accept your virtual hug brother. Glad I could save your Geo.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing. I did this on my '94 Metro and it worked great! My capacitors had no obvious damage and looked fine to me. I replaced those 2 capacitors anyway and now it shifts like a dream. 👍
Just got a geo, has the same problem and it seems like a huge common problem. I did check my trans fluid and it was three times overfilled but i guess that was just unrelated. Thanks to this video and a bunch of old forums i can hopefully fix the transmission
Great video. Fix worked wonderfully! Thanks! Keep up the helpful videos Karl.
Thank you so much for share this video i fix that board now the transmisión Is working thank you so much from Tijuana México
I love it when I can help someone fix their Geo.
I have a 2001 metro LSI with the 1.3L engine. The transmission stopped shifting automatically, and the headlights went out at the same time. What does this mean?
great vid, you save me a lot money thank you!!!
"A mechanic nerd officer and a Gentleman"...LOL.
Did this and worked perfectly my solder skills not so much.
My Metro starts in 2nd gear than shifts to 3rd normally.
I was thinking it may be the speed sensor on top of the transmission.
Do you still think it's the TCM?
But no power in d when you start correct but picks up when you shift to 2. If so it’s probably the TCM. good luck. 👍
Is this the same for a 1997? Mine doesn’t have working blinkers but the hazard lights work, also starts in 3rd.
I think the TCM and ECU were combined after 96' but should still be able to find it
Thank you for passing this on. This worked perfectly on my 92 lsi A/T gas saver.
Nice!!!
I have that problem on my 92 also, now that I know it works on a 92, I'll go ahead and have my mechanic do this, thanks
WORKS Awsome , Smooth Shifting ! My Father In-Law Has Had His Geo Metro For Years . His Problem Was His Automatic Transmission , No Power On D' Shift , You Would Have To Put It In L' Shift And 2'' Shift And Back To D' Shift As It Speeds Up If Like Normal . He Did Take It To A Place That Work On Computers And Auto Computers And They Already Knew That Issue On The TMC - T3 And T5 , They Charged $ 140.00 For The Repair . An Of Course We Live In Tijuana , B.C. . Now The Other PROBLEM That All Geo Metros Had Is The Hard Shaking And Vibration , Who Has The Answer To That , We Believe That We Tried Everything That People Would Say . One Thing We Have To Remeber That A 3-Cylinder Engine Will Always Be Off Balance Right ?
Hard vibration could be spark plug, head gasket leak , distributor, timing , motor mounts , fuel injector or be the harmonic balancer.
@@karldias1415 Thanks , Maybe Harmonic Balance ! All New Above ! Do You Know If Geo Metro Automatic Transmission " Turbine " Has A Weight Balancer Like On Some Old 351 V-8 Engines Do ?
@@rayaaron2232 does it shake more at idle than at speed? If it’s imbalance it would get worse with speed to a point. I doubt it’s the turbine. Also make your spark plug wires are spaced apart.
I have 2001 Chevy Metro LSI (MX17 A-210i) s this the same as stuck in "Safe/Limp Mode" (3rd Gear) but throws codes Saying "B" Solenoid and Down/Up Shift?
I never got a code. If you got a B code it’s probably a stuck solenoid. I suspected that at first. Almost bought some.
@@karldias1415 Yah, but stuck could be anything electrical and not just physical life of solenoid because it's STILL stuck Unless it's wire harness problem right, Even after changing both Solenoids? Any tranny easier suggestions other than cleaning the filter and pressure plate manifold, and could pressure plate really prevent Solenoid from properly working. also of note is my tranny oil pan drain plug is spinning not threaded tight correctly and didn't replace to new gasket isn't air tight either; could that prevent fluid pressure still prevent shifting?
Andrew Ford I doubt the gasket being not air tight is a cause. There is no pressure in the pan it’s open to atmosphere through the dipstick. Wish I could help more.
Is the same transmission of the swift 1.3?
As far as I know it’s the same car. 91-95 metro and swift. I read the module has the numbers 38880-60E00 CONTROLLER ASSY. A/T 86410-2450 AISIN made in japan. Please verify.
will this work for a 1995 Geo Prizm as well? I'm having the same problem but with the Prizm.
Jess Z not really sure. The geo metro was a Suzuki. The prizm was a Toyota. Don’t know if they had the same computer. Do some research and check if they had the same transmission. If you have the exact problem I had it’s probably the same issue.
Cool. Right on. I'm going put it to test.
What is the sea shell looking peice right of the capacitor?
That black disk is a Different type of capacitor.
I posted this fix on the Geo Metro forum back in 2014
Where is this circuit board located? I have a 2000 Chev Metro LSI. Thanks
It's mounted vertically under the dash next to the steering column.
Mine was a geo metro which is a Suzuki swift. Yours might be different.
Your 2000 has a one piece engine and transmission controller behind the glove box. Not going to look like the one in this video, but the same components are in there and failed in the same way.
Hi it's this same for 94 Geo metro 1.0
no its the same i have a swift 1993
thanks for the advice
Where is the tcm on a 96 geo metro?
On the 95 it was under dash board behind the the drivers side steering column. Mounted vertically. Put your head by the brake pedal and look up basically. It’s deep in there.
how can I test each one to see if they are bad.???
Don’t know if you can. But you are having the problem described I would change those. They are relatively cheap.
@@karldias1415 ok thanks where can I get them.???part no. ??
@@busdriver9007 there is no part number. You buy a 10 micro farad and a 100 microfarad (uf) capacitor that looks like the ones the video. You need to know how to unsolder and re solder the part or take it to any electronics repair shop. You can buy it at any electronics component store or online.
@@karldias1415 what are some store names ??
@@busdriver9007 I don’t know any large chain stores left anymore. Used to be radio shack and fry’s but now it might just be a mom and pop wherever you are at. eBay or Amazon is your best bet too.
Something like this.
E-Projects - Radial Electrolytic Capacitor, 100uF, 50V, 105 C (Pack of 5) a.co/d/1trb4ln
Radio Shack is OUT OF BUSINESS!!
Try flea bay
Or Digi-Key
I did just like you did and it still don't shift.
Maybe you had a different problem. Also did you put the capacitors in the correct way with the stripe.
YES
@@karldias1415
Thanks broo
Your welcome!
How much if I send you mine
There's a bunch of geo metro guys on there.
Where is the computer location
Its mounted vertically under the dash next to the steering column. On 2000 model it’s behind the glove box another commenter said.

Hey mann. Are you on facebook geo metro 2.0????
Raul Solis no brother I’m not on face book geo metro 2.0. Sorry I don’t do fixes. But if you take it to an electronics repair shop or know someone who solders its an easy job.
@@karldias1415 dude you can make some good money on there selling your service.
Raul Solis Thanks bro. I appreciate that. Problem is I only know it works on this one car since it’s my personal vehicle. I’m not sure about other models, storm, prism etc...If I do it on other models and it does not work the same then people will be disappointed.
No
