Quick review of the HFT tap set. People talk crap about HFT And still use their stuff. They are a great deal. I needed a 10mm -1.25 tap and they were one of the few places that has it on the shelf. It did the job. It may not be for professional use but for $16 they got me out of a big jam. Sorry about the shaky footage but I film the thing on my phone inside the wheel well of my car.

    LOL, I just picked of the 20g 3z419j last year, and I had the exact same HF one as you. Probably overpaid for it at $150 but its the spitting image of the one my Dad had. These are nice not only because cast iron, but you can reconfig the motor to 220 with directions right on the front. Just replace the purge valve with a low profice brass one from Amazon for like 2 for $8, next I want to pull that valve off and use my $10 eBay boroscope to see what the inside of the tank looks like. Go check out some vids on what these do when they blow, it ain't minor. Once tuned up, this is going in the corner of the garage inside a nice 2x4 box. Out of the way, and somewhat enclosed is a reasonable safety measure IMO. I also keep the read wheels propped up an inch or so to insure water will definately drain but not enough to affect lubrication/sump. Opening the purge valve when I'm done, and leaving it open when not in use is my preference.

    Thank you for explaining the principle of the switch mechanism! I was trying to install a switch on a cord that did not have one, and the instructions only said to make one cut in the wire. Needless to say, I could not fit the wire into the switch, nor get it to work properly. I should know by now to always search UA-cam first before undertaking any DIY project!

    • @meikohan
      @meikohan Рік тому

      Not to mention the instructions on the package had a diagram for a model of switch that was different than what was in the package, so I was trying to install the switch upside down. I guess the manufacturers just assume everyone already knows how to use the product or they will be looking up instructions elsewhere.

    worked for me. Cleaned the plate and spring end/edges first with a model rail track cleaning rubber, fine sandpaper would probably do; then used flux. Left the spring a bit long and trimmed it until it was the right length. No-one would know it was repaired. Yes, I have a box of random springs salvaged out of stuff that broke.

    Thank you! I put a new switch like this on years ago, and of course forgot how. I learned a lot from your closeups, especially regarding the brass "pokey things" ! One fell out of the old switch after I opened it, and I could not get the "wheel"out to put it back in, and could not get it back in with the "wheel" in. I keep everything (except garbage) so I took a switch from an old cord that I wasn't using and followed your video and my lamp is again working!

    I like this on a number of levels: 1. Clear instructions are given. 2. It honestly portrays literally any project I tackle at home... "hang on, I gotta find my pliers" "switch doesn't work... let's try a different bulb." No cut aways or edits... this is totally indicative of the "shit happens" principle. Thank you
