Heading South, although insanely high on Spotify streaming, isn't even on the Bubbling Under yet. You have to remember that Spotify traction doesn't always transfer to Billboard. Especially when it comes to older songs. I remember back in 2022 when songs like No Role Modelz - J Cole and I Love You So -The Walters were in the top 10 on US Spotify.... with no buzz on Billboard. (I Love You So did eventually chart on Billboard, but it took a LOT. )
Yeah, I'm a bit surprised Shaboozey's album release has been met with minimal fanfare myself. Although I agree "Let It Burn" should be one of the album's singles, I honestly think "My Fault" should be released as the direct follow-up to "A Bar Song (Tipsy)". That to me definitely sounds like his best bet for another hit especially on country radio and stripped-down, acoustic fare being en vogue right now with that song having a strong melodic foundation and vocal melody as is. "Let It Burn" should definitely be the third wide release, but I feel it needs a radio edit for the opening fourth or third of the song as it doesn't start on the most radio-friendly note before REALLY picking up steam around 25-30% of the way in and just triumphantly shooting for the stars the rest of the way. But I feel the first 25-30% of the song in its existing form kind of hinders its full commercial potential. I'd also consider releasing "Drink Don't Need No Mix" specifically to Rhythmic and Top 40 radio at some point. I think it has potential to be a club hit.
I'm so happy for Shaboozey getting to #1!!! I'm excited to see what song he pushes next and I NEED some of the other Cowboy Carter collaborators to get some love too. Tiera Kennedy and Brittney Spencer are so talented and Tanner Adell is a firebrand.

Not gonna lie, I love I Don’t Wanna Wait. It’s a really fun song and it sounds great. It’s rare that I dislike an EDM song. I was surprised that so many people didn’t like it and I didn’t know that it sampled/interpolated another song and even if it did I probably would still like it.

Okay David Guetta needs to stop. I’m one of the few people that thought I’m Good was actually fantastic and was one of my favorite songs of 2023 but I’m so tired atp.
I pity you. Like, genuinely. I can't listen to that song without breaking out in uncontrollable laughter. It's such a hacky interpolation, and a new low even for Guetta (which says a lot in view of what he's been doing). At least add some bombast or a build-up to it - the chorus is just awkwardly lingering to the point where the original is barely recognizable and pretty much just completely bastardized by a guy who I'm pretty sure just interpolated it because he was too lazy to come up with his own melody. I mean, there's no thematic connection, no anything.

I don't know - Mamushi really works for me, but then again, I am a little biased towards pieces of art that push linguistic boundaries. It takes a lot of guts to start singing/rapping in a foreign language while being fully aware of the scrutiny people are going to apply to it, and in my view, Megan displays a welcome degree of confidence and artistic ambition through this kind of carefree indulgence in both her nerdy side and her general persona in a different language. As someone who doesn't speak Japanese but has learned several other foreign languages and acquired somewhat of a trained ear through efforts to eliminate my native accent/gain awareness of phonetic distinctions, I do hear her accent versus the Japanese artist, but I feel like that's really missing the point: it's about celebrating a language you're learning and expressing your individuality through it (and the flair of the language you're sprinkling in certainly plays a part as well; I'm far less well-versed on Japanese music, but from what I can tell, Japanese singers seem to incorporate English words and phrases into their music all the time because there is a certain cultural code accompanying the language that goes beyond what is literally being said. It's certainly conceivable that Megan was deliberately seeking to do something similar here.). That's what I like about it and why I think it works as well as it does.

I actually really like 'Rockstar'. Lisa always stood out to me in BLACKPINK, and her previous two singles, 'LALISA' and 'MONEY', never quite clicked with me (though the former is slowly starting to grow on me). She really knocked it out of the park here, and I can't wait to see what the other members do outside of YG! (Though Jennie's also on a song with ZICO - the song's called 'SPOT!' - which I highly recommend you check out if you haven't.)

I Don't Wanna Wait is such a goddamn hackjob ... I never would've expected David Guetta of all the club producers of the late 2000s/early 2010s to stick around into the 2020s, and especially not incorporating these senseless samples (in which regard this might be his worst release to date - it's such a pointless and lazy interpolation that basically just jacks a melody because he's too lazy to come up with his own while also completely removing any kind of flair to the original). Honestly, the song just made me cackle uncontrollably the first time I heard it.
If you want to see more *too good* k-pop should better charted, it should be the NewJeans, Kiss Of Life, æspa and IVE songs then if you want male ones then we also have "Impossible" by RIIZE, "Last Night" by J×H (SEVENTEEN sub-unit) or the entire "Lovely Runner" soundtrack which one of the songs in the latter that is currently charted on Global 200 was eligable for my Best Hit Songs of 2024. Also "Fate" by (G)-!DLE is a perfect example of an sleepy track turned into an ORGANIC SMASH HIT in Korea that deserves better to became a huge hit worldwide. It reminds me of a mix of J-Pop, C-Pop and K-Pop nostalgic school pop rock when the chorus lives rent free on my head.
While it wouldn't be my choice of a single at all, I have a feeling they might push "LEVI"S JEANS" because of how successful Post Malone is doing at Country right now
Tobey is a horrorish sounding masterclass of an Eminem song, that has more in common with MMLP than Relapse, and not just because he ditched the accents. The song starts like proper horror movie: cinematic noises and the clatter of footsteps (perhaps goat hooves?) leading the listener to expect to hear a psychotic man sounding like he's pinching his nose and complaining about "stupid fucking questions." From there, we are treated to a great hip hop chorus, and three stellar verses that mirror the malevolent witch's poison of an instrumental brewing underneath: Babytron starts off cool, with a buttery smooth verse, until Big Sean brings the pot to a boil with a show stealing verse amid erratic guitar sounds and electronic noises. before Eminem comes in an finishes it off. The beat is insane! Eminem's verse is exemplary: lyrically, as is common in rap, he retreads old ground found in other songs such as "Phenomenal" but with much better execution. His verse is electrifying, and he avoids his worst impulses (such as shouting) as he delivers a densely written, interconnected web of a verse that rewards multiple listens, and gets better and better every time you hear it, like an unknown verminous potion that oh so slowly, very, very gradually slays you the way they all killed this song. My only minor gripe is the obvious lie in the hook: Tobey was NOT, in fact, bit by a spider-that was Perter Parker. the character he was pretending to be. Are they pretending to be the GOAT? But then, maybe that's the point. Each of the three is humble, but engaging in the bravado required in rap, while simultaneously knowing that yes, each of them are elite level wordsmiths in the sport that is their profession. This song makes that demonstrably clear. It might not seem like much after one listen, but this song has the hallmarks of classic Eminem: give it half a chance, and like the monster hiding under you're bed, it surely reach out and grab you like... ABRACADABRA! Shady's in his motherfucking bag, bruh!

Well if you used to watch Mark used to do the old formula for his billboard breakdown, when he reviewed the Migos album back in 2017/2018, the video went sooooo long that he introduced album bomb rules, whereas prior to 2017 that used to not be a thing. So he used to be able to handle so many album bomb albums in 2015 and 2016, until he got tired of it and introduced a new way to make the video a bit shorter than usual. But when you have soo many new debuts, it can take a while to get through. But watching this person do the Hot 100 has saved me a ton of time from having to find other channels that would do weekly charts and list the top 100 on Billboard (which they have all been struck down by multiple copyright claims and Billboard itself).

This has to be my worst prediction in awhile. When I made this list on Sunday I was considering between going way overboard and throwing 25 songs here most of which came from the Megan the Stallion and Camila Cabello albums alongside a couple of songs that sold decent and had UA-cam in addition to the songs I ended putting here, and this really small list that only included songs I thought had enough traction to debut based on what traction I could see.
Shame we didn't let Heading South to chart. At least Game Over didn't charted.

Heading South, although insanely high on Spotify streaming, isn't even on the Bubbling Under yet. You have to remember that Spotify traction doesn't always transfer to Billboard. Especially when it comes to older songs. I remember back in 2022 when songs like No Role Modelz - J Cole and I Love You So -The Walters were in the top 10 on US Spotify.... with no buzz on Billboard. (I Love You So did eventually chart on Billboard, but it took a LOT. )
Megan became THE best weeb rapper of all time (even if the bar of that scene reached levels of lows I couldn't even fathom).
Yeah, I'm a bit surprised Shaboozey's album release has been met with minimal fanfare myself.
Although I agree "Let It Burn" should be one of the album's singles, I honestly think "My Fault" should be released as the direct follow-up to "A Bar Song (Tipsy)". That to me definitely sounds like his best bet for another hit especially on country radio and stripped-down, acoustic fare being en vogue right now with that song having a strong melodic foundation and vocal melody as is. "Let It Burn" should definitely be the third wide release, but I feel it needs a radio edit for the opening fourth or third of the song as it doesn't start on the most radio-friendly note before REALLY picking up steam around 25-30% of the way in and just triumphantly shooting for the stars the rest of the way. But I feel the first 25-30% of the song in its existing form kind of hinders its full commercial potential.
I'd also consider releasing "Drink Don't Need No Mix" specifically to Rhythmic and Top 40 radio at some point. I think it has potential to be a club hit.
I'm so happy for Shaboozey getting to #1!!! I'm excited to see what song he pushes next and I NEED some of the other Cowboy Carter collaborators to get some love too. Tiera Kennedy and Brittney Spencer are so talented and Tanner Adell is a firebrand.

I pity you. Like, genuinely. I can't listen to that song without breaking out in uncontrollable laughter. It's such a hacky interpolation, and a new low even for Guetta (which says a lot in view of what he's been doing). At least add some bombast or a build-up to it - the chorus is just awkwardly lingering to the point where the original is barely recognizable and pretty much just completely bastardized by a guy who I'm pretty sure just interpolated it because he was too lazy to come up with his own melody. I mean, there's no thematic connection, no anything.

I don't know - Mamushi really works for me, but then again, I am a little biased towards pieces of art that push linguistic boundaries. It takes a lot of guts to start singing/rapping in a foreign language while being fully aware of the scrutiny people are going to apply to it, and in my view, Megan displays a welcome degree of confidence and artistic ambition through this kind of carefree indulgence in both her nerdy side and her general persona in a different language. As someone who doesn't speak Japanese but has learned several other foreign languages and acquired somewhat of a trained ear through efforts to eliminate my native accent/gain awareness of phonetic distinctions, I do hear her accent versus the Japanese artist, but I feel like that's really missing the point: it's about celebrating a language you're learning and expressing your individuality through it (and the flair of the language you're sprinkling in certainly plays a part as well; I'm far less well-versed on Japanese music, but from what I can tell, Japanese singers seem to incorporate English words and phrases into their music all the time because there is a certain cultural code accompanying the language that goes beyond what is literally being said. It's certainly conceivable that Megan was deliberately seeking to do something similar here.). That's what I like about it and why I think it works as well as it does.

The indie revival is the most similar case, but this year is closer to quality than the previous two for sure. It's not better than 2012 or even 2020 & 2021, but it's a big step in the right direction

I actually really like 'Rockstar'. Lisa always stood out to me in BLACKPINK, and her previous two singles, 'LALISA' and 'MONEY', never quite clicked with me (though the former is slowly starting to grow on me). She really knocked it out of the park here, and I can't wait to see what the other members do outside of YG! (Though Jennie's also on a song with ZICO - the song's called 'SPOT!' - which I highly recommend you check out if you haven't.)

I never would've expected David Guetta of all the club producers of the late 2000s/early 2010s to stick around into the 2020s, and especially not incorporating these senseless samples (in which regard this might be his worst release to date - it's such a pointless and lazy interpolation that basically just jacks a melody because he's too lazy to come up with his own while also completely removing any kind of flair to the original). Honestly, the song just made me cackle uncontrollably the first time I heard it.

If you want to see more *too good* k-pop should better charted, it should be the NewJeans, Kiss Of Life, æspa and IVE songs then if you want male ones then we also have "Impossible" by RIIZE, "Last Night" by J×H (SEVENTEEN sub-unit) or the entire "Lovely Runner" soundtrack which one of the songs in the latter that is currently charted on Global 200 was eligable for my Best Hit Songs of 2024.
Also "Fate" by (G)-!DLE is a perfect example of an sleepy track turned into an ORGANIC SMASH HIT in Korea that deserves better to became a huge hit worldwide. It reminds me of a mix of J-Pop, C-Pop and K-Pop nostalgic school pop rock when the chorus lives rent free on my head.

Tobey is a horrorish sounding masterclass of an Eminem song, that has more in common with MMLP than Relapse, and not just because he ditched the accents. The song starts like proper horror movie: cinematic noises and the clatter of footsteps (perhaps goat hooves?) leading the listener to expect to hear a psychotic man sounding like he's pinching his nose and complaining about "stupid fucking questions."
From there, we are treated to a great hip hop chorus, and three stellar verses that mirror the malevolent witch's poison of an instrumental brewing underneath: Babytron starts off cool, with a buttery smooth verse, until Big Sean brings the pot to a boil with a show stealing verse amid erratic guitar sounds and electronic noises. before Eminem comes in an finishes it off. The beat is insane!
Eminem's verse is exemplary: lyrically, as is common in rap, he retreads old ground found in other songs such as "Phenomenal" but with much better execution. His verse is electrifying, and he avoids his worst impulses (such as shouting) as he delivers a densely written, interconnected web of a verse that rewards multiple listens, and gets better and better every time you hear it, like an unknown verminous potion that oh so slowly, very, very gradually slays you the way they all killed this song.
My only minor gripe is the obvious lie in the hook: Tobey was NOT, in fact, bit by a spider-that was Perter Parker. the character he was pretending to be. Are they pretending to be the GOAT? But then, maybe that's the point. Each of the three is humble, but engaging in the bravado required in rap, while simultaneously knowing that yes, each of them are elite level wordsmiths in the sport that is their profession. This song makes that demonstrably clear.
It might not seem like much after one listen, but this song has the hallmarks of classic Eminem: give it half a chance, and like the monster hiding under you're bed, it surely reach out and grab you like...

Well if you used to watch Mark used to do the old formula for his billboard breakdown, when he reviewed the Migos album back in 2017/2018, the video went sooooo long that he introduced album bomb rules, whereas prior to 2017 that used to not be a thing. So he used to be able to handle so many album bomb albums in 2015 and 2016, until he got tired of it and introduced a new way to make the video a bit shorter than usual. But when you have soo many new debuts, it can take a while to get through. But watching this person do the Hot 100 has saved me a ton of time from having to find other channels that would do weekly charts and list the top 100 on Billboard (which they have all been struck down by multiple copyright claims and Billboard itself).
