The Downbeat Podcast - Jerry Horton (Papa Roach)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 гру 2023
- My guest this week is Jerry Horton, guitarist and founding member of the massively successful rock band Papa Roach. We talk about their pivotal role in creating what is now known as ’Nu Metal’ and their resilience to that genre‘s somewhat bad connotations that has seen them remain successful and relevant for 30 (THIRTY) years. We also talk CARS, PRIMUS, METALLICA, and much more.

Somewhere 1997ish I wrote a letter to Papa Roach from Salzburg, Austria to ask them about the intro to Orange Drive Palms which 16yo me could not figure out how to play. Jerry actually answered. From that day I'm in love with that band. Thanks, Craig!
Metamorphosis is legitimately one of my favourite Papa Roach albums, it is the album that I come back to the most from the band.
Every episode I watch in this location makes me remember the horrendous time Craig went through to bring this to us 💀😂 (thank you Craig!!)
An episode I had no idea I needed until NOW🤯
This chat has made me want to check out more recent Papa Roach. Can confirm you were not rude to me at all that day mate haha
All of the Papa Roach guys always seem like such good people.
The band I have seen the most number of times! Have been in love with them since I was 18 years old. The chorus of Gravity is on my husband’s headstone.
Jerry Horton was fundamentally responsible for my life taking shape the way it did. Papa Roach introduced me to guitar, and 25 years later my life has been built on that one little moment of inspiration hearing him play.
This was a truly exceptional treat to see pop up in my news feed! Thank you so much.
Oh maaaan! So happy to see Jerry here
I remember Fixing there Van in the Skips Music Parking lot in Sacramento, right before they went on tour. Super cool guys. Jerry was always so nice to the younger musicians.
this was one of the best episodes i've seen in a while, you're easy going back and forth, your back pocket, inquisitive questions, the guest looked comfortable, easy to listen to voice, he wasn't being swallowed by the couch. just good.
I had that Beavis and Butthead CD. “Poetry and Prose” was the Primus track.
One of my favourite bands of all time
What an awesome episode. Infest is such an iconic album that I constantly go back and listen to it. What a down to earth dude too. Since finding Stray which brought me to The Downbeat, I’ve found so many new bands that I probably never would have on my own.
BROOO ON FIRE WITH THE CONTENT!
I remember my dad coming home with Infest and it totally blew my mind. Definitely listening to it in the gym tomorrow.
Jerry fucking rules, what a great guest to have
Jerry is so fuckin chill. I like this dude.
Feeling validated that I wasn’t the only guy looking at the last resort video as a kid going WHERE THE HELL DO I GET BLACK DRUM HEADS FROM
Legit smashing it recently Craig, stoked for you!!!!
Speaking of Primus, I was local VIP coordinator for Les Claypool and Sean Lennon years back. Maaaaan, what a weird time. They were cool as hell, but their fans were truly out of this world - the Q&A was more unhinged than the Country music ones I've done.
Love Jerry, awesome interview!
Thank you for this great podcast. ♥
Getting to hear abe on the podcast would be a dream!!!
He's been a friend of a friend since the first UK tour. Apparently he's absolutely lovely and cool.
What a lovely fucking dude man, awesome stuff. I love love love your interviews, please never stop, I hope they keep going, bigger and better.
Keep smashing it bro, loved the car spin off in this one what a unexpected bonus to one of your pods ❤🔥
My favourite Music Podcast , Nice one Craig
Ahh wow i had forgotten about unwritten law!
Hope you feelin better dude
Randy Staub did the alternate mix for SKOM. He's also pretty much the one responsible for the Black album sounding so good. I remember the stream you did where you listened to St. Anger(?) for hours, gotta admire the commitment lad.
It feels strange how everybody seems to hate Metamorphosis. It was a great fucking album, and all the songs on there are at least solid. If Papa Roach released the album under a different name, i'm sure it would have been well received.
I actually started to listen to Stray because of this podcast and I found this podcast a few years ago because I saw Courtney LePlante done an episode 🤷
btw I love the dream festival section I don't understand why people hate it :/
That was an awesome interview. And yeah, Justice is the number one Metallica album.
I almost bought Jerry's signature schecter when I was 14. But I didn't know if I'd still like the band later in life so I grabbed a diamond series omen 6 and I still have it lol but damn I still regret not getting that signature lol I thought I was being smart
Somebody get Jerry on The Smoking Tire!
CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES....I WANT NEW DOWNBEAT MERCH
out now on patreon, tomorrow rest of the world
New merch in the US store slaps.
May be a dumb question, but am i able to order uk merch, even tho i reside in the us?
Rich as F, sitting in his pyjamas...
I told my ex that jello tastes like jelly air once.. i had forgot about it til she showed me a fb memory thing..
Would be sooo cool to have Billie Joe Armstrong on the podcast
What is his skin care routine?! Or is it the production 😉
600 fkin K!!!! WTF :o :o :o
kirk and claypool were high school buddies, so kirk asked.
Oh let’s see you get used to no air conditioning in fucking Bangkok, Thailand.
Craig m8, can you try and get Alex Rudinger on. Thanks.
