Just got my Vet long .25 a couple weeks ago from Talon tunes. So far I've put 34gr. JSB king heavies thru it, and 34 gr. NSA slugs.
BOTH are grouping 1 ragged hole at 60 yards @ 930fps.
This gun has THE BEST trigger I've ever felt on an airgun.

1 ragged hole is a good problem to have ;)
Great trigger for sure, my RAW is my favorite trigger but the Vet is a close second.

By buddy from work has a RAW .25 and I can't decide which I like better. We could annihilate pests at local dairy farms. Anyway great channel!! Congrats, I'm subscribed. 👍

Nice test! The cold definitely makes a difference in a guns behavior! Looking forward to the 100 yard testing 👍🏻

I just checked, the Long .25 Vet is rated at 65fpe without the power plenum, so that sounds like a beast in the making.

@@airgunoutdoorscolorado my long will get almost 70fpe with Jsb 34gr and the power plenum. I haven't messed with reg pressure yet to see what it's capable of. Tony at Talon Tunes likes to keep them tuned around 62fpe as to not cause any unnecessary stress on the rifle with the power plenum install. Keeping consistency, power, shot count in mind.
I did also buy a power hammer spring from Tony. It did add a few more ftlbs on it's own. But then if any more needed, I'd have to get to my reg to even everything out. I actually brought mine down a bit to get what I liked. Sure do waste alot of lead when doing shot strings looking for that golden adjustment with whatever you plan on shooting. I'd be curious to what yours would do with just a power spring.

@@randycombs112 There is nothing wrong with 70 fpe or even 62. I am usually in the 55-60 fpe range, depending on temp. I might have to check out TT to see what I can get the STD to do. My concern about the power plenum is the fact that I shoot a Donnyfl Ronin on it and from what I have seen the plenum adds enough length to cause a clearance issue when using a can, not totally sure but have heard that.

    • @randycombs112
      @randycombs112 3 роки тому +1

@@airgunoutdoorscolorado your right. My Ronin and others won't fit now due to the added length of the fill tube. So went with getting the slimmer donnyfl KOI. It looks perfect on there. Matches shroud size also. I think the 0DB silencer will work also. I have one on my Daystate wolverine R HP .25 But didn't even think of trying it until after buying and donny. But am happy with the KOI. Takes the bark out nicely for it's size.

Like I said, these guns are underrated. Glad yours is stacking them. I have been very pleased with the long range capabilities of the std, kind of wish I would have gotten the long but I think any of the Vets are accurate.

Thank you Travis, great video, much appreciated! I have a Taipan Vet .25 long that I set up with a plenum and heavy spring. I love everything about this rifle, it's an absolute tack driver. I have not tested many slugs (next fun project) but I wonder...I've been thinking alot about harmonics with the Taipan. The way the gun is built, the the barrel has a solid landing in the breech, and has heavy support at it's midpoint from the rail mounts, which is good. So I would love to see the same test (50 yards) with some sort of damping toward the end of the barrel - tape or stiff rubber or perhaps a plastic shim between barrel and air reservoir that fits so it doesn't deflect (misalign) the barrel but would borrow from the stiffness of the reservoir tube with a good wrap of tape, just to see if it even slightly dampens the harmonics and affects accuracy in any way. I can't help but wonder if this may reduce the wabble effect at shorter distances with slugs which I have been observing in other contributors videos with the Taipan. I think this may impact domed pellets performance as well which I have seen myself at certain speeds over 960fps. I will be testing mine in such a fashion but I wanted to throw that out there. Thanks again for taking the time to put together an excellent video. Peace from Boston!

Hey Bigcat, thanks for the positive comment on the videos, it is all a work in progress but I will keep doing them. It is a balmy 5 degrees out so nothing this weekend :) So I have tested harmonics in the past using heavy duty heat shrink tubes, placing them in different locations on the barrel, after I nail down the best slug for the gun I will do an experiment with that to see if we can tighten things up even further. This gun is very capable of good long range I do wish that someone made a carbine or long rifle stock option as a bull pup is not the best platform for long range. I have had a couple boyds stocks custom inletted so maybe that will be another down the road project in an effort to accurize the Vet as much as possible.

@@airgunoutdoorscolorado Travis, agreed on all points. Thanks for that info and keep the videos coming, I've subscribed and will be watching. I'm currently a one-rifle-guy, bought this Vet used- holy crap, best money I ever spent. I can't shoot it enough. It's become a case study in accuracy and performance for me so I'll share any revelations in the future as well. All the best!

I hear ya on the cold and wind. Thanks for putting a video out anyways, regardless. We all wish for perfect conditions. But that's not real life. I did buy printed cheek rest and biathlon levers for both mine from Eric M. Saves the cheek from that cold steel for sure. Have you tried any of the AVS slugs from Steve? (Can find on eBay) I have a bunch of .22 and .25s to try in different dia sizes and weights. Just waiting and waiting on some nice Northern Michigan weather to start testing again. In the mean time I can just sit back by the woodstove and watch you guy's put in the work.😅😅 Is appropriated.

Hey Randy, I have a printed cheek rest and had the biathlon handle but that broke after about a month. I have a printer so perhaps I will add that to my long list of stuff to do :)
I have not tried AVS slugs but will give them a go as I love testing and good is never good enough. I do not envy you up yonder, I grew up 50 miles from Canada in ND and had my share of long cold winters. Thanks again bud!
