It's been awhile and I hope all of you are doing well. My mom and I were invited to a mochi pounding get together. It was the first time for my mom to see it in Hawaii, Brian's first time seeing it and my first time trying it. So much fun to be around people with strong family values and good friends... Lots of Aloha.... wishing you all good fortune 2023
This was great. I did mochitsuki at the Japanese school I went to when I was younger. I’m so glad there are places that still do this so that the next generation can see and experience this tradition. Thank you so much for sharing Niki!
Good video....I see mochi pounding as taking all the people in the world, family and friends (the individual grams of rice) and molding them into a really beautiful, delicious glob of mochi.

Thank you for sharing the tradition of mochisuki. Definitely something I wish my family would have done. We have done ALL of the traditions of Toshikoshi soba, ozoni, Osechi/Oshogatsu feasting, since I was a child. Just never mochi pounding. I have a mochi making machine that I bought a few years ago. Happy New Year, Niki Niki. So awesome that you found work. Indeed, it's a challenge to get back into the swing of things. There is a reason we learned in school to stretch before a workout. (pro-tip). So sad to hear that your cat is unwell. *prays* In this day and age, it's so convenient to just go to the store to buy stuff. However, it's good to see mochi pounding, so we can see all of the hard work that goes into making what we eat. After my fam went to see our first mochi pounding, my younger sibling started eating mochi. I think seeing 2 people work so hard sparked something. No need to apologize for being away from UA-cam. Real life is more important. Take care. And, keep up the awesome work.

Happy happy new year!! It’s so exciting you’re starting a new path in retail and I love how the little keikis gather around with all the aunties and mamas making mochi how sweet!! I can just picture my grandkids doing the same awww stay well and much blessings!!
We don't pound but we have a mochi maker so the mochi is fresh cause you don't know how long the mochi sat on the shelf.
We punched the mochi. Kind of stopped when my mom passed. Started again during covid. I'm a broiled and soup mochi maker.😁
We used to have mochitsuki but it kind of stopped after my parents' generation passed away.
I saw you but from across the store. It was before Christmas and store was crowded. I didn't want to shout out your name and scare you. 🤣 Yeah, we just happened to be on that side of the island for a craft fair and stopped at that shopping center on the way home.
