Actually this is not a composition by either Alessandro or Domenico - but instead by the Mexican composer, Manuel Maria Ponce. Andres Segovia approached his friend - Ponce, to write pieces that would sound as though composed of the era. This is not the first musical 'prank' to be done by the Ponce/Segovia team. Ponce also composed a 'Preludio' in the style of Sylvius Leopold Weiss. I think Segovia got the idea from violinist Fritz Kreisler, who pulled similar stunts.
Yes - the prelude you refer to is Ponce's Prelude in E major. Segovia referred to it as a prelude by Weiss until comparative late in his career, when it had become generally known as a piece by Ponce.
I believe ponce wrote two entire suites, one in a minor attributed to weiss and one in d major attributed to scarlatti. This clip is the gavotte from the suite in d major.
@@chrisjames789 I've never heard the prelude in e major being referred to as weiss's composition, and it doesn't seem to imitate the baroque style either
Yes, he is great for his time! In his youth, he sometimes played unreasonably fast, too freely and the tempos swayed .. Later, mostly heaviness appeared and sometimes individual phrases and notes were beautifully played ...
It's not by Scarlatti. It's Baroque pastiche by the Mexican composer, Manuel Maria Ponce - part of his Suite Antigua, written in 1931 for Segovia. They realised they couldn't pass it off as Bach, so they opted for attributing it to Alessandro Scarlatti. Segovia apparently even claimed to have transcribed them from keyboard pieces found in Naples!
@@Anton_the_Vampire I believe the entire suite in still available from music publishers, Schott. There used to be a published version of the Gavotte on its own but I cannot recall who the publisher was. If I find it I'll let you know.

Beautiful post! Thanks
There is none like the great Andres Segovia...None.
Bellissimo pezzo come Bach e Weiss. ❤️ 🌈

Yes
Doesn’t even sound like something Domenico would play, he would have tossed that idea in the wastebasket

The best music never dies...
The one & only exclusive savant of classical guitar
I got to see Segovia live in Eastbourne,East Sussex back in the 70s.
Was gonna stomp my guitar to pieces when I got home.
(I didn't)😁
:DD the fact that he never hits a wrong note drives me mad
Grande Maestro Segovia!!!
Mágica interpretación 👏👏👏
This piece was actually written by Ponce using Scarlatti’s name.
By Alexandro Scarlatti, the father of Domenico.
I never knew that! Even though I studied this piece for quite a while, a long time ago.

Such a great piece and not hard too play
This is not from Domenico Scarlatti. It is Alessandro Scarlatti.Ponce and Segovia put it into a version for guitar.
The copy I have of this music says it was written by Alessandro Scarlatti. From a 1960s anthology of classical guitar music.
Wonderful

If you can play a more charming version , i'd like to hear it.
@@moelarrycurly708 I can only criticize, but it won’t work out better .. Nobody will play better ..
This is definitely the perfect performance! 😉 🖐
Gorgeous, ineffable. ¿Scarlatti? No, but Ponce.
This is by Alessandro Scarlatti; not his son Domenico.
This is by Manuel Ponce.
Can, anyone tell me the number of this work by scarlatti?
its his dad"s work. Alessandro

Hauser guitar...
@Gil Bert: Looks more like a Fleta, which Segovia was known to have played, following the Hauser recording studio accident.
@@stddisclaimer8020 OK, thanks, did Not Know this !!!
@@gilbert6023 Segovia, likely not long after the time of this video, began playing Ramirez 1a's exclusively.

¿A estas alturas aún se publica el error en cuánto a la atribución de la obra?
Harías bien en corregir el título de tu vídeo. La obra es de PONCE.

Ponce es superior a Barrios por mucho.
