This was one of my all time favorite mecha anime of all time. I so hated that it only got 3 movies, it soooo deserved a much longer arc than that. The music, even today, still holds a place in my heart as some of the most epic, and sad, fight music, the first fight in this video (which is actually the second movie) is still one of the saddest to me. It wasn't until years later I found out that they had done a "series", but it was placed so many years after this took place and I just couldn't get into it. I truly wish someone would remake this version, same chars, same basis, but with a lot more character development...and the same music.

I still believe that jerk Gilberg survived! And even got a promotion from Captain Galimos. I hope that any new Dangaioh series picks up where this one left off.
Too bad the ending left no room for sequels, Dangaioh was the destroyed, the base is gone, and the protagonists are stuck in space. I think there was supposed to be a sequel but Dangaioh didn’t performed well in sales.
I’d honestly rather 3 ova’s or beautifully animated films like this then a long poorly animated series that starts off strong but then people turn into blobs with noses
About the last fight...What was wrong with Dangaioh exactly? I remember he got shot in the back with a missile and lost a spike but it didn't looked so severe. The guy said he couldn't raise Dangaioh's power so it must have been an energy issue, i think they must have used it all in the last fight, but they could have just separated into jets, maybe this way the villain wouldn't have been able to go after them all. Edit: Dangaioh also got shot with a red beam by the villain so this must have been one of the reasons for him to malfunction.
The team had just finished defeating the two robots, and They used all of their energy for one psychic wave to destroy the entire enemy base with a Psychic wave. When they were attacked, they were depleted
My guess is that it's because the giant robot genre is made to appeal to teenagers. This is why they make these characters. This is also why a loot of designs like the ones in gundam look like toys more than real machines. It would be killer to have a badass psychic robot with a crew of legitimately charismatic / psychotic mature characters but to my knowledge it was rarely done. Maybe Goldorak with Actarus? It would be cool as fuck.
