My friend died in a stabbing and I wanted to look at this video because I feel so guilty. I watched my friend bleed out as the paramedics took care of him and I couldn’t do anything but just stand there and look. I felt helpless ever since then I wanted to be a paramedic because it means I get to help people and learn about biology my favourite subject. This channel has taught me so much.
A lot of times I cry tears of appreciation and love when I watch your videos because I can see and feel myself in those situations and it feels so precious to know what to do 💓🙏 I can't thank you enough. I'm making a big playlist of your videos to share with everyone and study! Life is precious! Let's learn how to protect it!!
what if someone get stabbed on his stomach for example . Applying pressure is all you can do in that case right ? Or is there a better way to handle the situation ?
Hi this is very interesting to me but what happens if you do not have a spoon or scissors what else could we use or could we just tie it up with our hand tight ?
Great video! But honestly I don't like very much the phrase "a tourniquet is a last resort" that's an old school mentality now evidence showed that is the best way to control exanguinating extremity bleeding, as you said normally you start with direct pressure but if you see that there is a catastrophic bleeding and you have a commercial cotccc recommended tq you can put in on immediately, or if the situation is desperate (scene not completely safe, low visibility not sure where the wound is) you go high and tight over the cloathing and let the next level of care evaluate. Improvised tourniquet aren't recommended because a lot of research show that in most cases they are ineffective (if you know how to make them they can even work but it take a lot of material and time that most likely you don't have available) if you don't have a commercial tq you wound pack and hold pressure and if you are a lot trained based on the situation (maybe you can't hold the pressure for example an MCI event) you can try to improvise
Thank you for your comment. I understand your reticence about the last resort element. However it is important people understand that tourniquets should be used only once direct pressure has proved insufficient or ineffective and should never be a first line treatment
@@FirstaidforlifeOrgUk1 Many militaries and police forces around the world have used Tourniquets as first defence in casualty care. A femoral artery bleed means the patient only has a roughly 30-45 second window of opportunity to stop the bleeding after the initial injury. Tourniquets are the number one way to stop bleeding fast. Also, you can leave a tourniquet on for a mumber of hours, upwards of 24 hours. This has been documented by many emt's, medics, corpsman, etc and the limb will be perfectly fine (albeit punctured/shot/slashed/whatever triggered the bleed). This is common practice through the world, and if it is common enough for the militaries and police forces around the world to use and teach, it's good enough for me. I always keep a tourniquet or two in my bag at all times and train on how to apply a tourniquet under that 30 second window.

It's the people who stabbed your friend, are the ones to blame not you,

For a wound that is not on a limb, you should consider packing it, to provide pressure to the source and stop the bleeding that way.
