You kind of can't really call yourself Kansas City BBQ unless burnt ends are on the menu and they'd better be good.
When you said BBQ and gas station, I knew you were going to Joe's. Jack Stack is also good bbq. They are known for smoking their beans below their meats so the juices drop down into the beans. They also have lamb ribs which were something new and tasty.
Mikey…I can only eat small amounts of uncomplicated, mild food due to gastric disturbance. However, watching you enjoy this food and listening to your amazing descriptions is a satisfying substitute. This is 1 of your best! Thank you so much!

While I haven't lived there for many years, I am from KCMO originally. I've never heard of making burnt ends sweet until you showed it at a BBQ in Texas. Next time you go, you should try Jack Stack. It's been around for decades. I know you don't normally do sides much, but if you go there, you definitely have to try the beans. They are sweet, smoky with a little bit of spice added and then cooked in the smoker under the meat and all the juices that drop down into them. You might also consider doing a show around the American Royal where the annual World Series of barbecue is done. You'd get to try barbecue from all across the world and you can apply to be a judge, although there's no guarantee.
Yo Mike! You can totally call ahead and place your order for pick up, especially when you're doing a long distance drive. I did a cross country road/camping trip last summer, after doing some research I decided to stop by Joe's on my way to my next camp site. Burnt Ends are definitely THE thing to get when it comes to KC BBQ. Ribs are next in my book. And for us that sweet tangy sauce is the big thing. Even the spiciest sauce is still gonna be pretty sweet. Sometimes I prefer a more vinegar-based sauce but in terms of the actual BBQ, KC does it right.

There is a great BBQ joint in OKC called Swadlys (spelling?) . I had it once in 2017 and again in 2018. I LOVEEEEE THE CREAM CORN. It’s not like the cream corn you’re thinking from a can. That canned cream corn is gross. But theirs is PERFECTION! The ribs, burnt ends & brisket are amazing! They also have spicy sausage and tore me up from the inside out. 😄
I miss Joe's SO BAD! Those ribs are an experience, to say the least. It's one of those, "if you know, you know" things. Mike also needs to check out The Peanut for some of the best buffalo wings on the planet.
I have been to 100s of bbq joints. Only two keeps calling my name to go back again and again. Joe's bbq in KC and Pappys smokehouse in St. Louis. They're both awfully good.
Reminds me of a place where I grew up. Like that burger place, when you walked into the place where I grew up you would hear another burger hit the griddle. Basically, you walk in the door about the only thing you hear conversation wise is, 'One or two patties? Fries or fruit salad? Drink?' Good times....
Plastic utensils all the time! Bad for the planet! Have you ever thought about a set of reusable bamboo, or stainless? Easy to pack along. Now, back to those wings....
Hey Mike, I highly reccomend next trip to Oklahoma to either try Meer's near lawton or Roy's BBQ in Chickasha both are cash only but have atms on site.

Kansas City has the best BBQ!!!! Joe’s is very good!
This! I know this statement is controversial but I feel as if Texas BBQ is highly overrated, alot of other places do it better (KC, Memphis, Carolinas)
You need to come to STL and try some BBQ. Pappys is one of my faves
Nic hasn’t changed his oil since 1989 that kitchen looks filthy
I have been to 100s of bbq joints. Only two keeps calling my name to go back again and again. Joe's bbq in KC and Pappys smokehouse in St. Louis. They're both awfully good.
While Joe's has very good burnt ends, you HAVE to try LC's bbq, their burnt ends are life changing!!!🤤😍
LCs is horrible
@@oldassfuck1901 opinions are like.....
Reminds me of a place where I grew up.
Like that burger place, when you walked into the place where I grew up you would hear another burger hit the griddle. Basically, you walk in the door about the only thing you hear conversation wise is, 'One or two patties? Fries or fruit salad? Drink?'
Good times....
Steak N Shake and Olive Garden. How far we have come 🤣
THOSE AREN'T BURNT ENDS. this is aggravating me more than it should... *exhales in Texas*
I MISS KANSAS SO MUCH! This just makes my heart grow fonder for it.
MIKE...LET ME GET A BITE 🍔 YUMMY TO MY TUMMY 😋🤤😋
PEACE AND BLESSINGS EVERYONE STAY BLESSED STAY SAFE ✌🏿❤🙏🏾
Haha! I love how packed your car is!
Me: That BBQ sauce looks really red... like ketchup. 😶
Mike 2 seconds later: I'd like to apologize to Joe, to rib lovers and THESE ribs... 🤣
Dude...cool to see you here in OKC. Glad you liked Nick's. I've lived here all my life and never been there. Don't be a stranger...
Live near OKC too, you gotta go to nics! Very worth the hype
You know why the burger and fries taste great? Its because of the cooking oil 😂 looks like they're using it for 3 months now lols
You gotta hit up the other BBQ spots as well. There's the original 4 (Jack's, Joe's, gates, Bryant) and then q39 came along
Another amazing place is Slaps BBQ in kck.
Jack Stack and Gates are good but a little overrated in my opinion. I'm not a fan of Arthur Bryant's at all. It's not like it's bad but KC has so many better BBQ options that I would never choose it.
Mike, the reason you see more lean brisket in KC is because the fatty cuts are generally used for making burnt ends
