Being 48 years now, the Film from 1988 still moves me so deep inside that I can‘t find the words to express. A great movie and a wonderful song- always will have a special place in my heart. Jodie Foster at her very best ;-) like with others, had nearly forgotten about it since ages. Last night, away from home, something triggered me to search for it and I watched it two times over. That is art, when it can move us all over again.
I'll second that brother! This is my favorite movie of all time. I'm 47 so you and I are from the same time and place in a way. I'm an old ball player myself and this movie reminded me of that, so I did some digging and found myself a nice, fun softball league that needed a shortstop! Like Billy Wyatt, when I'm not playing ball, I am one lost son of a bitch! There's just something magical about being on the field, kicking the dirt around! And the music just reaches right inside your very soul whether you like it or not. This film is a lost gem and I am so glad I bought the dvd when I saw it at the pawn shop. Many blessings my friend and stay true!
I’m about the same age as you, so I know that we grew up in a magical time, we just didn’t know it then. I found the movie to be a bit of a disappointment, maybe I need to watch it again to make sure I didn’t miss anything. The soundtrack, and especially this song are second to none.
Leslie: 😘😘😘😘Me too.I bought it.Its 2020 and still this film is OVER THE TOP.I cry same way I did first time I saw it....I mean the films complete in every way.My very God Sr. Mark Harmon and Jodie Foster get me crying baaaaad.
Absolutely underrated movie. Big time. 43 male here and I can't deny I actually liked this movie. But then again I'm big baseball fan. Chick flick that lurs in baseball fans lol
When she danced, I lost my INNOCENCE. (I loved this movie when it came out and immediately bought the soundtrack. I recently sought it out on vinyl and added it to my collection, too. This was right in the heart of my David Foster music craze.)
In addition to that phrase making NO sense, and the other making sense both in and out of context (losing one's innocence, a.k.a. Growing up), you can even hear them singing "inn-uh-cence".... And, they're not British and wouldn't be singing a soft "r".
A so beautiful song, no decade will ever top the 80's, I'm so glad to stay there in my youth, even if I always miss so much those wonderful years. Amazing movie. Greetings from Roma 👋 🇮🇹
Simply underrated. Mark Harmon was quite good despite needed smoking lessons and Harold Ramis was miscast but Jodie was bewitching. Good score, great song.
I came across this movie when I saw the movie St. Elmo's Fire, and I fell in love with David Foster's songs, and I also fell in love with this movie. It's my summer staple Besides, I used to ride a red67 VW convertible.
Love love this song. One of the best songs written by David Foster in the ‘80s, but I feel it’s even a timeless one. I am a musician and I listen to all kinds of music from jazz, rock to film, symphonic, ethnic, avant-garde, classical music, but Every time it snows in winter, I listen to this song. It’s a song for pure celebration of love.
Rob: I bought it years ago ands 2020 I cry like first time...Its message, feelings, so much love touches and in the films body, complete MASTERPIECE.🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧🤧😘MERRY CHRISTMAS.Sr. Harmon ate it and Jodie Foster too.
Stealing Home is one of those movies which is a tragi-commedy made into a five star epic by the two Fosters featured here. Jodie Foster in her most beautiful early years is stunning. David Foster's hauntingly gorgeous love song played at the critical climactic pont in the film is ingenius.
I always thought he was saying "I lost my innocence" but "I lost my inner sense" fits as well. I bought the CD off of Ebay and later I bought the DVD. I saw this in the theater with my best friend and this song has stuck with me all these years. I lost my husband in 2019, so it's even more sentimental. Such a gorgeous, gorgeous song.
Omg, came here to say this! 48 now, and have legit spent the last 29 years thinking it was about a provocative young floozy. When I eventually saw the film c.10 years ago I was basically expecting a lap dance.😂
Foster's ode to memories of how perfect and imperfect love is- and how sometimes you simply can't make it right but it never goes away. Rips your heart right out every time. And who but Jodie could ever show that bravado and desperate need and vulnerability and raw heart chasing dreams? I wish there was someone to scatter my ashes like Katie's when the time comes and let me fly off up into the sky and the surf. But we don't all find a Billy Wyatt- and sometimes Billy Wyatt just stays off in Vegas.
I have seen Stealing Base, 40/50 times it never ceases to surprise me, Mark Harmon, Jodie Foster, John Shea, it hits you hard, it has everything, David Foster's music, it is a story of friendship, and of the 60s
I was like 13 when I first saw this movie, and fell in love with Jodie Foster's Katie like the young Billy did. The movie's coming of age topic was perfect for someone just entering puberty. Now that I'm 47, I see the movie more from the older Billy's perspective. Either way, it contiues to resonate in my heart and mind.
A song that resonates with me big time, it describes a relationship/ friendship I've had for years. And now I'm honored to be walking her down the aisle at her wedding
This was one of the first films to which I drove myself. Alone. Century City. Sobbed my guts out. 16. Seen many times but not for awhile. I saw last night and wept throughout. They don’t make movies like this anymore. Old-fashioned tearjerkers with movie stars. What a cast. Blair Brown, Ramis, Richard Jenkins, John Shea! And that’s just the supporting cast. When I saw this as a teenager, I didn’t know or live on the East Coast. I understand the milieu far better. The boarding school, the shore (which looks like the Nantucket but isn’t), the WASP elite-though they appear to be Catholic, except for Jonathan Silverman (there’s an altar boy, but maybe Episcopalians have those too). Seen through the lens of adulthood-at 49 , I’m older than adult Billy/Appleby-I understand just how wealthy the Chandlers are. There’s no one on the beach! Old money WASP/Catholics. The Wyatt home remains the same 20 years after Shea dies. But Mrs Wyatt never has to worry about money. The film could never be made today: all rich White people except the Phillies scout. And even if it did get made, critics would tear it apart as classist and devoid of representation.
Sad but true. It’s sad that the whites are vilified so much nowadays. And yet everyone wantS to come begging to get into countries created by white people. But I got to say I love this movie and I love white people no matter how vilified they are today. Glad my mom married a white guy and had me. Best decision ever.
Marilyn has such a beautiful voice . She isn't very well known in Australia . Apart from seperate lives with phill Collins . I bought a 7' vinyl single night moves . Don't know that it ever got any air play . I seen it second hand . Back then I had a habit of just buying singles etc randomly with out even knowing the artist . ❤😊 Sydney Australia 🦘 5 Jan 2925
I love this song. Reminds me of dancing upstairs with my boyfriend at my senior prom. He wore shorts, they wouldn't let him in. We met upstairs. Oh to be 17 again.
Love the song What I always liked about the movie was complexity of the central relationship, (Billy & Katie )as the mature Billy realizes that the most important woman in his life arrived when he was too young to appreciate her. And with Katie Billy was the only man she ever loved. The guy she ran off to get married to was just her ticket out of her parent's home
I only discovered this song several years ago when it came up in my recommendations. I can’t stop listening to it. This song reminds me of a special lady that I have in my life. Other than my wife, I don’t think I’ve ever had stronger feelings for anyone else, and I’m in my late 40’s. Due to my obligations we can’t be any more than friends right now, but I love her anyways and I’m so thankful to have met her. I finally watched the movie but found it to be a bit of a letdown.
@@AmirGirgis Me too. If was able to share a slow dance with my special lady that I mentioned in my last post, this song would be the one that I would want to play for sure. The only problem is that it’s not long enough, so I might have to hit the repeat button.
This movie, 'Mystic Pizza', and 'Beaches' really take me back to my early teens😊. So much hope and looking forward to be an adult. Not realising those would be the best years. If there was a time machine I'd go right back and stay there ❤.

Love the song and great job on the video, but despite some incorrect references on the "interwebs," the lyric is "I lost my innocence," not "I lost my inner sense," which makes no sense whatsoever. In the movie, Katie is older than Billy. They go to Seasmoke after the death of Billy's dad in what is a summer of coming of age and loss of innocence. Get it? :)
