    Vintage Horns 2 is a collection of virtual instruments specifically designed to emulate the sound of horn players from the 60s and 70s, including such classic styles like Vintage Funk & Soul, Cool Jazz, Roadhouse R&B and Rock ’n’ Roll, 60s Pop Rock, Vintage Film Noir, and Soul Jazz.
    Like its best-selling predecessor, Vintage Horns 1, Vintage Horns 2 is was not designed to be a perfect, pristine-sounding virtual instrument. Instead, our goal was to create a collection of brass and woodwind instruments that captured the character of horn players from the 60s and 70s, including the quirks and minor imperfections that made them sound so good.
    The inspiration for Vintage Horns 2 came from the iconic playing styles of such well-known musicians as Maceo Parker, Miles Davis, Junior Walker, King Curtis, Stan Getz, Freddie Hubbard, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Herbie Mann, Zoot Sims, and Gerry Mulligan.
    To get the sounds we were after, we studied the playing styles of our inspirations, taking note of things like tone, vibrato (or lack of same), and the types of instruments used back then, and special articulations used in some of those genres (growling, singing, utter-tongue, etc). We deliberately left the tuning loose, and kept in some notes that other horn VIs would have deleted - the kind of honking, squawking, warbling, cracked, and slurred notes used by those classic players.
    The end result is a set of sampled horns with real character - and a product that we think is unlike any other horn VI available today. We think you’ll agree, and hope that you enjoy using Vintage Horns 2.

    I posted a negative comment the other day soon after downloading and trying it from the Black Friday sale, and I deleted it. *This. Library. Is. BEAUTIFUL.*
    I purchased this and Addictive Drums (two years ago) to do a cover of “The Flip Wilson Show” theme song; basically, I’m recreating a rather large orchestra and with a little elbow grease, it’s sounding better than I could’ve imagine.
    The set is centered around the Retro 70s Lead Trumpet. I’ve been using soundfonts for years, that it took me a minute to get used to the nuance of Vintage Horns 2 and after listening to my rough drafts through my monitor headphones, my computer speakers, my TV and my phone, the warbling, the vibrato and the cracked notes are absolutely beautiful-flawless, even.
    Then I’m so familiar with the theme song that I’m able to play a few ‘wrong notes’ on purpose to make it even more believable. Can’t wait to post it.

    Can I use this with the free Kontakt Player 6, or do I need the full version of Kontakt 6? Thank you.

      Free Kontakt Player V 5.6 and above. Enjoy the samples that will randomly go flat or sharp. It will sound like you have a bad horn player on your track.

    This is a really good surprise from the guys at BigFishAUDIO, especially with that price range, really convincing sound, however I do have a question...Are any of these instruments LEGATO SCRIPTED...????

      Hi Angel, Vintage Horns 2 does not have a legato mode.

    Hi there! I read the manual and didn't see anything on it, but I want to ask anyways: can you use mod wheel for dynamics? Also, could these be used for mellow backgrounds as an ensemble?

    • @BigFishAudioOfficial
      @BigFishAudioOfficial  6 років тому

      Hi Clark, The mod wheel does not affect dynamics; there are keyswitches for swells. The instruments could be grouped into multis as horn sections within Kontakt! Vintage Horns 1 comes with multi presets included.

      Thank you for the response! I know there are ensemble multis, I was more wondering how effective these libraries can be at softer, more mellow material, with long tones, etc. Most of the demos I find are pretty raucous...the closest one I can find is a performance of So What? that sounds really nice, but I'm hoping to find more ballad-type stuff before I commit to buying. Is there a place you can point me to that can demonstrate Vintage Horns 1/2 in this kind of context? Thank you!

    So is VI 2 single instruments only, rather than ensembles as with VI 1? I realise you can create your own ensembles this way. Why no flutes in this demo apart from the lovely piccolo?

    • @BigFishAudioOfficial
      @BigFishAudioOfficial  7 років тому

      Vintage Horns 2 does not incorporate pre-built multis group patches, the focus is on the single instruments themselves, however, you can absolutely build and save customs multis! There is actually only one Flute in the instrument and it is the "Bass Flute" that is shown at 3:48

    Warning: If you buy this expect some of the sample set for the instruments to go out of tune. Big Fish Audio does not make it explicit that they have left some samples, some of which are legato, that will be slightly sharp or flat. What does this sound like in your mix? --like the horn player is going sharp or flat. In other words it sounds like the player is making a mistake. Big Fish Audio calls this a "vintage vibe." I call it DEFECTIVE. It sounds like you've got a bad player. Who in their right mind would want to sustain a legato note that is slightly flat or sharp over a chord? And you can't control this within the sample set. All you can do is try using a pitch correction plug-in (e.g., ReaTune). But I mean come on, spend $199 for a sampled horn library that has samples that go out of pitch? I wasted my money guys.

      He did mention that in the video. And I am one of the people who would like to have mistakes in my horn library, because the one thing I hate is that everything is always sampled pristine, with the best microphones and the best rooms, which I cannot match with the instruments in my home studio. This is going to depend highly on the type of music you make, safe to say this is probably not for you :)
