    I was not impressed with the 50D myself, but 800T is AMAZING - you really ought to try shooting it outdoors at night or inside under dim lighting, that's where it truly shines in my opinion! It's beautiful for 'moody' shots, and the tungsten balance really accentuates the shadows.

      Louis Bryant Very interesting. I have a Leica rangefinder and I used to have a Maymia 7 about 18years ago and had to sell it at a 70 % loss because I was told that the lab could only make 8x10 in prints or larger when all I needed most of the time were smaller 6 by 4 proofs. Now with prints made from a scan the medium format makes a lot of sense. But I don't have employment or money to get back into medium format film but I am thinking about it!. I like the idea of 800asa film with medium format and using it as if were a point and shoot 35mm! I don't want to use a tripod all the time. I liked the results you got with the Pentax 67

    The 50D really shines in portraits, I think. The way it renders skin tones is absolutely gorgeous in my testing of it. It also shows off an atmosphere really well in darkish areas -- I get the best results when I underexpose by a quarter of a stop. Speaking of which, those red highlights you got in a lot of the pictures is a result of the anti-halation layer being removed in cinestill. You need really good exposure control to have it not happen.

    Needed some 120 film for what is basically my first foray in to colour negative photography. Ended up with some portra 800 and cinestill 50d.
    Previous to this I found an old instamatix with a half used 126 cartridge inside it, shot some of that (why not init), and I got another trifca 126 cartridge dated 1976 and shot that too.
    Peterson tank and little bits coming today, chemicals in the next week or so. I can't wait to develop the 126 cartridges, and also to then develop these films I have coming.
    Never done this as I mentioned, and the jeopardy of it all going wrong excites me!
    My choices for shooting this 120 film on (or future film stock on) so far are, in order of popularity;
    BENCINI KOROLL 24S (a fever dream of polished aluminium)
    PRINZIFLEX 200E (USSR SLR that I found with an m42 helios lens attached a couple years ago and bought for a tenner)... guessing this is 35mm!?
    What slr body should I go for if I want to go with strict technically perfect shots rather than experimenting like I am right now? Would appreciate any advice on any of this from anyone at all!

    Nice one! Just yesterday I uploaded a video on my channel with me shooting the CineStill 50d with my X-Pan. I also shot a couple rolls Kodak Vision3 50d on which the CineStill is based on and I prefer that one because you don't get the red halos and it is a lot cheaper. The only downside is that you have to develop it at home and deal with the Remjet layer which is not that hard and worth the effort.

    Did you by chance use an 85B filter with the 800T when in whiter lighting? My understanding is that outside of a good warm yellow light 800T has a blueish cast - I'd recommend trying the 85B with your next 800T roll and seeing how that looks.
    cinestill recommends shooting at ISO500 with an 85B filter (which corresponds to the 2/3 stop reduction of the 85B). If you have a TTL meter then you can probably leave it at 800 - but it might be interesting to bracket with ISO500+filter, ISO800+filter, and ISO800 w/o filter. Maybe ISO500w/o filter to see how it does overexposed nearly a stop.
    Regardless, I'm working through a roll of 800 now and have a roll of 50 waiting in the wings. Glad to see you took a look at it as well!

    What a useful video, thank you. I am thinking of trying out the 50D and didn't really expect it to have these nice tones. Regarding 800T, it is so much better at night because the unique tones and halos really stand out. However, these daylight shots weren't bad either. I'm gonna have to make a similar 50D vs. 800T comparison ASAP 😎

    George, I wonder if you ever tried Kodak Ultramax 400 colour negative film. It is quite a bit cheaper than Portra 400 but from what I've seen it has a similarely eye-pleasing white balance, nice and vibrant colours and true skin tones. I got myself a roll of this and I'll try it out very soon but it would be interesting to see a comparison and hear your opinion on it!

    I have an idea for a video that would probably bring about some interesting results. You should walk around the city and come up to a stranger/strangers with a point and shoot or something and just say, "Okay ready? 3...2...1" and snap a photo of them. They're responses will probably vary, but it would be cool seeing peoples' genuine reactions to being put on the spot like that.

    thanks for sharing this. I had some experience with the 800t in a teatre stage shoot and I didn't like it. Grainy film, the halation is very very strong and you can't really rely on the advertised 800iso speed. In fact the small print on the case warns you that at 5500K the sensitivity goes down to 500iso. The blue cast on every light source that is not tungsten is also very apparent.
    I have the feeling that this film may be great on very dim tungsten lights, so it may be the right choice to shoot street out at night. In fact I want to try that next time.
