I get it. We've made plenty of "un-wise" but fun choices in our decades. And I do love cars and vehicles. I once purchased a Corolla XRS (fast car, manual transmission, premium only) instead of a sensible standard Corolla. Wise? No, but fun. Purchasing an RV just as we retired. Financially wise? No, but we sure get a blast at out of it. I'm excited for you. Enjoy it!
The engine and transmission in those never die but everything else does. I would do a fuel injection upgrade on the 360, go through all the electrical and upgrade the tailgate window system. The biggest weak point is that tailgate. Others then that it should run for a really long time.
I had a 1990 Oldsmobile Customer Cruiser Wagon with woodgrain I always wanted to put surfboards on the roof. To hard to find in Kansas. If you find that would be cool
This is exciting!!! When I was married (MANY years ago) we had Duesenbergs, Packards, RR’s, Auburns, V16 Cadillacs, etc., so I’m well versed in the classics. You’ll have a blast restoring/modernizing your Jeep. Can’t wait to watch the journey. As a single female who camps solo, I drive my rig by myself all the time. You’re gonna love doing it yourself!!! I wish ALL women who travel in our camping world would do it. They don’t need to “learn” for the first time when their husband/boyfriend/partner gets sick or hurt. Come on ladies, just effing do it!!
Did you know that you can put the older gladiator grill on the SJ GW? They (AMC & Chrysler) never changed the stamp dies all that much.. Chrysler figured out a way to put a square headlight into a Round hole
Me and my dad have an 87 grand wagoneer and that jeep runs like new still but the jeep is lifted and have done a lot of work and some damage from the Michigan weather and winters but the truck works great
I worked for jeep,a little before 89,I've had a k20 pu and an old 327 powered grand Cherokee I think 72 ,all you need to do is flip the springs on the axles,I believe it may have a 44 up frt, they are getting harder to find,304 will keep you busy lol......cheers rvbroke out
@@AdventureEndeavor you will, they have a lot off emissions you can take off,air pump ect,I don't think you have the quadratrac you don't really want that they are excellent wheelers have fun, don't forget to ask viewers any questions,I'm a retired mech,we can help advise if needed
We did not unfortunately, there really isn't any rust that we can see anywhere other than surface rust on the roof. It's in really good shape. Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a look. We appreciate you watching.
@@AdventureEndeavor it's a design issue where road debris and salt gets trapped between the frame rail and the gas tank skid plate and causes the frame rail to rust out around where the spring is mounted to the frame. I owned an '84 and an '86. There are a few FSJ (Full Size Jeep) groups with lots of good info on them. Just remember JEEP stands for Just Empty Every Pocket. ;)
Man, I sure hope they bring back wood panelling on cars! What a fun purchase, I hope it treats you guys well! On a side note, I LOVE your guys's enthusiasm, really glad we found your channel! 😊
We love the wood panels! It totally makes the Jeep! Thanks so much for that comment, it really means a lot. We just try to be ourselves and take life day by day.
My wife and I were discussing your Jeep purchase and all of my crazy buys over the years. We both agree that great wives usually support their husbands knucklehead ideas and purchases. She’s a special lady and you sure are a lucky guy. We love watching this adventure unfold.
Wow this is an absolutely amazing comment! In extremely lucky, we support each other well. It's definitely going to be an adventure, glad to have you guys following along!
Been driving a 89 Jeep Cherokee Laredo , still operating, regular care needed but nothing overwhelmingly expensive, just a pain at times....the red roof fabric has not survived....lol
Keep up the great work - Love your channel! Love the Wagoneer! She's a beauty. I've had two Jeeps (CJ7 + Wrangler) and always wanted a Wagoneer. However, I think driving and maintaining a second vehicle will take it's toll on you and it will actually increase your breakdown likelihood. Between the Ram, the Nash and the Jeep you'll be sidelined more often and will have significant additional expenses (maintenance, gas, tires, insurance, etc.) . When you have kids I don't think you'll want two vehicles to drive. We raised 5 kids and RV'd all over the country (part time) over 35 years while we home schooled. In that case, you might want to get a Class A or C and tow the Jeep. We look forward watching you maneuver this new addition to your travels! Lord bless - safe travels.
Please don't change the motor or drive train, just fix it up. You'll have bigger problems putting a new motor in that beauty! Upgrade the suspension, yes but leave the drivetrain! Ya, fix the windows as well :-)
Oh yeah this thing will break down haha. Mine does. But I love the thing. Can't worry about fuel costs. If you are into efficiency, Wagoneers are NOT for you LOL
@@AdventureEndeavor I have lived here all my life and I have never heard of Tyrone Oklahoma. I was wondering how you guys found a Jeep Wagoneer that I didn't know about, lol. Now I know.

"Let's be honest, the Jeep will probably break down a alot" Yeah, #jeeplife I am excited to have a scouting vehicle as well! Oh man, I love those old "wing" windows. Hey, your "choices" help with UA-cam content creation! Great job guys. I can't wait to watch that "piece of junk" get transformed.
Haha yep, breakdowns come with the territory of course! Having a scouting vehicle has been amazing already! We are very excited and are enjoying gathering parts for the build. Thanks for watching, we are glad you enjoy it! 👀
I’ll see your classic 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and raise you my 1986 Nissan 300ZX Turbo, the perfect car for a family with seven children (if you leave them with their grandparents) 😂😂
Just remember it's a jeep 🚙 it's made by Chrysler that's all I need know. Get your pocket book out it's going to cost you they were a piece of junk when they were made.
We love our Wagoneers! Drop an LS in it and you'll never stop smiling... 😉
That's the plan! We hope to do a LS and 4l80 this summer! Thanks for watching
Those older Grand Wagoneers are going for crazy money. Great investment!
Thanks Rob they are really getting up there. That's what we figured as well, the price will just continue to go up.
We owned a 1987 Four door Jeep Grand Cherokee for 15 years and had good luck with it.
Nice! We are hoping to have good luck also! Time will tell, we appreciate you watching!
We bought one and I’d give anything to know why I’m obsessed with it. Therapy maybe!? So beautiful.
Awesome! Yeah they are therapeutic to some extent! We are enjoying ours! Thanks for watching.
The technical term for your air conditioning in the jeep is " 460" air. Four windows down and 60 miles per hour
Haha I absolutely love that!
How dare you doubt the RAM! That thing is bad ass
We love the Ram it's super capable. But it's almost caught the Jeep with mileage lol it will be fun having both.
Awesome. It's really not JUNK! Living up to your name...
Keep embracing your endeavors, adventurously. Enjoy your channel.
Haha yeah it's not junk we were kidding. Just livin our life's, doing what feels right. This will be a great adventure!
Having extra vehicle is smart.
We think so! Definitely worth the extra fuel.

SS 396 big block, very cool Jessie. Looks like a rust free California car. Big money.
Thanks Doug! It's fairly rust free. I'm thinking modern LS with fuel injection for reliability and better for 4x4
One of a kind for sure 👍
Thanks, that's what we love about these old wagoneers. Thanks for watching. 👍
The engine and transmission in those never die but everything else does. I would do a fuel injection upgrade on the 360, go through all the electrical and upgrade the tailgate window system. The biggest weak point is that tailgate. Others then that it should run for a really long time.
Good to know! We have looked into fuel injection, but at that cost we can probably just swap in a 5.3. Much more modern.
NOT THE CHEVELLE! NICE RIDE.
Yeah we loved that car! We have a good investment now...... the Jeep is great though!
It's a woody looks great. I worked at a Jeep Dealership when that wasn't very old 90s they were popular. Enjoy!!!!
Thanks! That's great I would have loved to see this thing new.

Yes, that might bea fun upgrade/swap down the road!
Swap to a Cummins R2.8 with a 4L80E, doubler for the tcase, long travel suspension, lockers, voila.
Oh yeah we have plans for a driveline swap. 5.3 and 4l80e, lockers and hopefully TTB suspension. Thanks for watching.
Look at getting it three linked in the front over TTB there is a shop in Oregon called Jeep west that can do it and produce excellent drive ability
Possibly, we are big into go fast desert prerunning. My buddy has a shop in So Cal and will most likely do all the Fabrication.

I can see your going to have a blast in the new Jeep.
Thanks I think we will also!
Super Stoked! We can't wait to see the transformation. Where are you starting?

Thanks! Yes we have thought about triples. Idk that we will be going back to the 5th wheel at all, like being small.
