I think we are all waiting for the laws to catch up on electric scooters. In many states like ours, it's left up to local city ordinances. When cities lag behind, it leaves a bit of ambiguity. This isn't fair to riders, or officers, nobody should have to guess about what the laws are.
I've traveled to several cities this year that have dedicated bike lanes. Clearly that is the way to go, and soon we won't be in the road with cars, but in our own private lanes. Micromobility is here to stay, the question is how will individual cities respond to this technological revolution.

It’s legal most places to ride electric scooters even with traffic as long as there no reckless riding. So cops stopping so many is just them harassing riders. Definitely know your rights because I wouldn’t stop knowing when I have every right and following traffic rules. Rule makers don't ride scooters. They don't know nor understand the facts that scooter rider (or two wheeler) experiments. No one can convince me that going slower than 4 wheelers is safer than going at the same speed or a little bit higher. The moment when I switched to a power scooter and get ridden of the dumb 25 km/h limit of my previous scooter that was my best experience. I think that the raison why governments punish e-scooters is that they fear about loosing tax revenues they obtain from car drivers.

I live in Australia and the speed limit is just 25 km/h, and I find it's too slow. I already removed the speed limiter on e-scooter and now I'm riding at 65 to 75 km/h!

You can't judge from what cops is saying about the speed limit on the road. If you don't ride an e-scooter over the speed limit on the road like other cars and motorcycles, then the cops will leave you.

Wow this would ruin my day. And I am exactly like you. I do ride fast to keep from 1000000 cars passing me. When I go 40mph, cars are still faster than me. I never ride my bicycle on non-shoulder roads because most cars are no patient and honking horns I don’t condone. Cops should be stopping criminals and not harassing scooter riders

It depends on if the police department is underfunded or not. They also need the man power to be able to do it. A non fatal or severe injury car accident does not take priority when an active threat or house is burning down.

Got a running a red light ticket (pre-emptive over the line before green like 99% cyclist do including myself) on a bloody Segway G65 Max on the way to work at 20mph by an unmarked cop SUV. Got over it and bought a Nami Klima so no longer running red lights since I get to the set of lights before cars and always make the orange lights. Burn E 2 Max next step in my learning process, Inmotion RS/Wolf GTR ect... 🤔
Nice choice! That Klima is just enough to get you into trouble and out of it lol such a fun scooter! I was debating buying the Burn E so hard but I think it's changed to the RoadRunner Rx7. I saw it when it was a prototype last year and the lumilor paint is gamechanging. Plus Dale built from the ground up with the best specs, PMT, Magura brakes, removable battery. I'm torn between that and the RS for my personal scooter this year.

Coralville and Johnson county will fuck with you for any reason. I got pulled over in Johnson county for almost running a red light and a variety of other bs over the years. My buddy got a reckless driving ticket from some dickhead breaking the law on the way to cite him with reckless in a private parking lot with permission from the managers. He was driving a Ford Ranger in circles around the Culver’s parking lot with ppl in the bed. He never even squealed tires and still got that ticket. I’ve also had some great interactions with Coralville police but I try to avoid that area as much as possible, especially at night.

The officer is very professional and interested in public safety. There is no real protections on these scooters, especially going that fast. These scooter riders did not handle this very well. They should not be argumentative with the officer, which would have been more helpful.

I love your videos and you’re a good guy and I know the adrenaline is high in that moment and you definitely don’t want to admit to knowing me going over the speed limit, but you were just asking for a ticket. Arguing with him about the law on the grace, makes him not wanna extend that grace to you. It definitely came off as arrogant. Let’s see an officer take a 1mph ticket to court. I was pulled over in Story City Iowa for doing 72mph passed a state trooper going 70mph in the left lane. He pulled me over and wrote me a ticket but failed to show up to court. Got the ticket dismissed.

When it comes down to it 1Mph over the speed limit is still speeding. it says that in the DMV book there's no and is or buts about it. So trying to justify speeding there's no excuse. And it is vehicle just like a bicycle is considered a vehicle on the roadway.

If you're so scared of other drivers, don't ride a scooter on the street. The speed limit applies to every vehicle. No wonder people are trying to run you off the road. It's because of people like this guy that legislation gets written. I also ride a scooter for leisure purposes not for commuting despite the fact that I'm good at maneuvering but standing while riding over 30km/hour on the street in those tiny thing is vulnerable than you sit on motorbike. I'm really good enough at this thing but still feel and sense the danger so I know the reason why the officer really cares for you. You must take it with humility, probably God uses him to warn you to keep you from something bad that could happen in the future.

I would say you were super lucky. If you a) didn't have your camera running and/or b) were a different race, I think your trying to debate the cop would have been taken as defiance and you'd have been arrested on the spot. I'm not saying that's right, but there's actually zero point in debating a cop, the more you do that, the more you tempt fate. Just be deferential and apologize even if you think you were right. Or just say very little and just listen. You're not going to convince a cop not to give you a ticket or arrest you by arguing with them. It's basically the same as human nature. People double down when they perceive someone is attacking them and will not listen to any argument no matter how "good" it is.
Yeah, and here I am worried about getting a scooter because it needs to be registered as a motorcycle in my jurisdiction. I already own a motorcycle, but the convenience seems nice for short trips. Now, I don't agree with the law unless you are on a highway with a certain speed limit as well though.

It my state they are in the process of legalization but i been riding for a year. I never go over 25 kmh, ever even though my scooter can go 80 and I actually have got a motorbike license so I can ride a Harley. I think if you don't have motorbike licence then stay off the scooters. you are not ready. and the fact you fell off recently, shows you do not understand basic riding safely. I been riding motobikes for 25 years and i've only come off once. I have had an escooter for a year and since i have experience going fast on two wheels , I have not come off and i've riden 5000 kms , . Can you say the same. No .

Going up hill on that scooter is impossible and I had the Vsett and up hill I wish I could do 38. It's a bias, even if your pacing a scooter, the way a cars speedometer is wired doesn't align with bikes and scooters, GPS will agree with that.

Scooters are legal here on the road, bike path, or sidewalk. If he's going to impound something he's going to need radar evidence to hold up in court. I was about to say the cop was aggressive but easy man .. at the end of the day its to protect you with speed but give the cop a chance he was hard at first I felt he was compassionate

Ive ate shit a couple times on mine , the 1st time wound up in the ER getting 8 stitches to close my forehead at my eyebrow and tore my entire ACL in my left knee. Sent home hopping on 1 leg with a walker unable to walk. Supposed to get reconstructive surgery to connect my knee because the ACL is the ligament that connects the knee joint so I dont have the stability like I should but I was back on my scooter before I was even able to walk normally lol …love surfin the land 😂
