Are these settings mostly for indoors? I film mostly in a low-mid light forests, and am struggling with my settings there. Any tips on what aperature and shutter speeds setting I should start with, with an auto ISO setting? And is S-log 2 best for forests, or cine4, or other? If you give me some starting points, I can trial and error from there.
@@Communitron start with 2.8 aperture and the shutter speed to support the video you are shooting. 24 fps = 1/50 shutter.. slog2 will get you the most dynamic range, and least digital looking image so I recommend it. Typically as a preset starting with the lowest aperture for the lenses you use (2.8 is a generic answer but solid starting point).. don’t use auto ISO if you’re serious about creating cinematic images and controlling your lighting. Auto-ISO is more for beginners or when you really can’t change it manually. Learn to adjust your ISO for how you’d like to expose your image. I always say it’s better to learn and make mistakes the to lean on auto settings and not learn how to use your tool. Hope that helps my friend
Thanks Tim - I'm new to the Sony A7c - it came with the kit lenses. My aperature setting only goes as low as 4, so, I'll start with that. And will film at 30p, 100M, shutter speed 1/60. My shots are for videos only. The only problem I've found at the lower shutter speed is my pans of the forest look jittery. But, I'll try your setting start points and slog2 setting and experiment more. Thanks Tim!
Hi Tim - filmed in the forest all day - mostly tripod pans. My shots with 1/50, and the lowest aperature I could set (4), usually meant I had to crank ISO way up to zero out my light meter. I guess I need to get a lense that lets me drop my aperature lower. I also tried breaking the shutter speed rule (since they're slow pans) and lowered at points below 1/50 to lower ISO, so I'll see how that looks in post.
Thanks for the video Tim. You mentioned that you have a one stop shop for your LUT's that makes it easy to work with SLOG2. Where do I go to get it and do you have a different PP for 120fps and 60fps? What about shooting in low light? Thanks again!
Hey Dave - I use a conversion LUT to bring my footage back to a normal color space. I use the same PP for different frame rates for sure. Everything in SLOG2 on this camera or SLOG3 for the A7Siii
Get the 20mm 1.8 sony lens for 900$ before tax and then visit the sweat shop in Thailand where it was made and think about how lucky you are to live in the u.s.
Hi! How do you switch between photos and videos on one of the saved presets? (1,2,3). I'm trying to find this feature, but I haven't been able to do it.
@@TimConnor13 No, man, I mean another thing. I'm talking about setting up photos and videos in presets 1,2,3 on the wheel of the top panel. But I have already solved this problem. To save the settings specifically for the video , you first need to enable the manual video mode on the wheel, configure it in the functions and also in the menu, and then go to save to the desired preset. For example, under the number 1. Then you will have a video mode when you put the number 1 on the wheel.
@@Thesawen oh I get what you're saying.. another way to do it I believe it to be on the video setting when you make your presets.. glad you found your answer!
A7c autofocus problem (af-c area focus "wide"): ua-cam.com/video/V9SxFrxFN_c/v-deo.html No problem on the Sony 6500 with the same settings and the same lens.
I have found this to be 100% opposite. Much better stabilization in my experience. I have an old video on my channel me vlogging with the 24/1.4 and a7iii and it was barely even usable. I can vlog with that lens on the a7c

Cool video man! Very nice footage! 👍🤙😎 Thanks for sharing!
glad it helped my friend!
957th sub!!!
Thanks dude!
hi i bought this camera a7c which lens for best video and picture could you provide me good one thank you
Is object tracking available in slowmo in a7c
is that a vlogged camera?
yes
im thinking to buy this camera which lens would be good for cinematography ?
I’d buy like a 16-35 F4 first because of versatility, then a 85/F1.8, then a 50/1.8 or 2.8 macro!

I also bought an a7c to male short films. I got the 50mm gmaster and love it
Why is my ibis terrible what am I doing wrong

I flip it back to M to take photos.. 👍👍

@@TimConnor13 your video is confusing photo profile and we talk about video settings. Waste of time.
as soon as i switch into the custom settings everything gets reset and now my manual mode is completely mixed up
Did you get this resolved? Make sure you set your custom settings off of video mode for video
@@TimConnor13 i think i got it
i don't have 24p,60p&120p record settings instead i have 25p,50p&100p , did i do something wrong?
Thanks for the detailed video
No sir! You’re just set up on the European frame rates which is fine.. set it up to use 2x your shutter over your frame rate.. 👌👌
@@TimConnor13 I changed the NTSC/PAL settings now i have the other options
thanks for the quick reply
Nice
thank you my friend!
I can’t get my mini rode mic to pick anything up 🤷🏻♂️
that's weird have you solved the problem yet?
@@TimConnor13 nope 🤷🏻♂️
