That is amazing to hear! I have studied him a lot and he had a huge influence on the Southern California area. How I wish you (and I) could go back in time to tell him how the area looks today!

That’s so cool! I recently read the actual letter written by a German immigrant requesting the building of Anaheim high school. How fun to attend a school with so much history. Thanks for sharing!

Really enjoyed this video. There was lots of history right in my own backyard, and I didn't even know it. All hail to the Mouse king.

We move to Anaheim in 1952 and mom and dad purchased a house in West Anaheim at Brookhurst and Ball. Dad was in construction and started building houses around something called Disneyland. Disneyland opened in '54 and that was the beginning of change for Orange County. My daughter bought one of the houses in 2023 that he worked on in about 1953. I have been in Orange County execpt for Vietnam and a few years of construction in Riverside County. I went to school in Orange County, elementary, high school and college. I then taught as a teacher in my junior high school campus Trident Dolphins on Ball Road.

im a big fan of theme park history so when this video was on my recommended page i thought it would be a mostly disney-centric video, however, i was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was a deep dive into anaheim as a whole! i'm so glad you included *all* the history, even if it was dark. it's important that we know the whole picture!
all i ask is that you make a video of the history of my hometown of los angeles lol!

Thank you so much for the kind words. You honestly made my day. I am from SoCal as well and wanted to learn the WHOLE history of where I grew up…especially the dark parts that were avoided being taught. This was my first try at a full history documentary and I will be making many more. I just finished one on Las Vegas, and I’m currently writing about San Diego. LA is up after that! I love the history of LA and want to make sure I cover everything from the pobladores to modern day. Thank you again!

I can proudly say that the man who raised me was part of the delayed construction of Disneyland😂. He told me all the stories where they would sneak in and fill the bulldozers gas tanks with dirt! He said not one of the kids wanted Disneyland because the orange groves were their favorite place to hang out. He worked at Knoxberry Farms, said that was his first job and saved enough to buy his 57' Chevy. I'm pretty sure his track record still hasn't been beat. Fastest man I ever knew! Said his house was behind the football field and everyone avoided his fence because of his dog named King. He said life was so good there before Disney came in. He even shared a story about the Beach Boys playing at his highschool dance. Unfortunately, he enlisted in 59' and went into Vietnam where his life changed forever. He still returned and I was born there in LA. It didn't take long before we moved far away from there. No place to raise a kid, he said. I visited there a few years back and I couldn't believe how horrible it was. Brown smog, trash everywhere, trees so disfigured from pollution, only crows, no grass, just pavement. So many homeless folks. It hurts immensely seeing so many suffering. He grew up in a golden era there, one lost over time. I'll never go back. I may be from the city of angels but I'm so very thankful I didn't have to grow up there. I remember gun shots every night, sounds my parents would tell me were fireworks. I remember never getting to go outside to play. My parents would take us out of the city on the weekends and go camping. I remember the Kmart and all the power lines everywhere. I did enjoy the fresh fruit and all the foods I cherished from childhood, while visiting but that's about it. It's important to know where you came from. I lived my development stage (from birth to the age of five) there in the city and I am different from thosee I grew up with here. I had built in streetsmarts and knew how to survive from all those camping trips. My parents are both with the Lord now and I truly do admire their courage to get us out of there. I can honestly say, they saved me from hell.

An informative video-I had no idea that grapes were once a cash crop in Anaheim or that there had been a basketball team here. I enjoyed learning more about this history of this city!

Thank you! It's interesting to think about what Anaheim would have been like if the grape crops never got sick. Would the area be called Grape County? Or Wine County? Bring back the Amigos!

In the late 1990's I knew a lady named Betty Mctavish, She was adopted by Orange Grove People, I cant remember who. She always spoke of Her Aunts Kate and Ella, that gave name to the street Katella

Thank you so much for sharing! I had no idea about this! I did a little more digging and found some info on Kate and Ella! "Katella Avenue is a combination of the names of Kate and Ella Rae. Kate founded the Anaheim Red Cross Chapter, and Ella was the first chairperson of the library board." Ref- www.anaheim.net
