To win any war, you must also win the hearts and minds of the public, an area where Israel has failed. There is no rational reason to continue killing innocent civilians until Hamas is defeated. In the public's perception, both Israel and Hamas endanger civilians. Netanyahu is losing this battle because of civilian casualties, which is why I disagree with the general's opinion.

People compare the protests to Vietnam where America was directly involved and not bound by a paper and pen ally because govs don't have friends. I often wonder who does more damage, the people who plan and execute heinous events or the emotionally reactive people who reinforce the masterminds of strife by reacting emotionally.
The whole Isreal debacle is really frustrating. One side, Isreal is being too heavy handed and not taking humanitarian needs into higher priority. On the other side, Hamas is a terrorist group, not a country, and they are playing dirty to make Isreal look even worse. The protests I think forget the fact that Hamas are terrorists and the protests are playing into their hand. Isreal's actions are not helping themselves on the international stage.
Personally, I think eventually, the Palastinians need more representation or their own state, but the complexities of that is beyond me. In the mean time, Isreal needs to be more surgical in their fight against Hamas and really push to rebuild and help the civilians and make sure that Palastinians are being taken care of.
I hear you. I make the Iraq war comparison where protesting the US was a bad idea because half of us protested the war. People should have helped protest the Bush administration the same way we should help protest the Netanyahu administration.
