How to STOP HOOKING YOUR DRIVER

  • Let's change swing path and face aim in one easy to follow drill to never hook driver again. We can't keep playing from the left rough so try this. Remember it's all about creating a feeling so let the exaggerated move encourage a slice and then it can be relaxed from there.
    Allow the club to travel left and the trail hand to be more under the golf club to ensure the face remains open to the new out-to-in path.

    This one tip has made me love golf again. I was a 1 handicap player , but slipped out to 8, purely because trouble off the tee from a savage hook, it even crept into my irons. I was so close to jacking it in, but have practiced this technique during a few games and can’t believe the results. Amazing what one simple tweek can accomplish . Fair play Steve👍

    I'm giving this a go, Steve. I've been sitting on a decent card a couple of times recently and duck hooked it oob on 18. Mostly down to nerves but hopefully this drill and the feel of the right hand underneath will help me avoid that reoccurring.

    Hi Steve thanks for this instruction it really helps. I’ve been hitting lateral shots for months now and find that I’m worse with the short chipping. I’ve totally lost confidence in my short game,I can normally play flop shots ,low pitches etc. but have now resorted to using an old chipper (GO) as it’s the only club that I have any confidence with and keeps my scores down.I have improved with my full shots but it happens mainly from 9 iron down to 60 deg wedge. I’d be interested in your way of curing my short chip shots problems.It has happened a couple of times over the last few years and seems to disappear like a back ache after a while. I also very much like your driver and iron instruction . I’m a senior golfer and took the game up late and didn’t know what a shank was for about 15 years but I certainly do now. Thanks again regards Pete

    Gonna try this. Two weeks ago I was more confident that I ever have been, played a round where if not for a few bad luck chips and 3 putts could have broken 80 because my striking for my irons has always been good, but I was driving and putting better than ever... but it always seems like I'm the sort that will iron things out for a few rounds, but then bad habits sneak back in and I end up with a whole new set of problems that I need to figure out and my game goes to hell then did all I could to stay under 100 a couple rounds later. Golf is so weird. I am hooking the ball so bad off the tee that the ball just dives out of the air and I'm lucky to hit it 100 yards.

    Great video! One question: wouldn’t the right hand under the grip strengthen the right side causing more face closure through impact thus the hook?

  • @PM-om2wm
    @PM-om2wm 7 місяців тому

    This is just a swing organization to make a fade. You can also modify your grip

    Sens i upgraded my driver from the ping g30 i went to the 425 and not only i started looking then went to the rouge st max . I noticed that the toe sticks up and even seting in nutral its still up and draw bias and really expatriates the hook

    Steve , turning your left foot out , how much does it allow you to turn through the swing , I'm getting on a bit now , i don't turn my foot out and after a round I get a strained back , even though I'm hitting my drives fairly well

  • @eastcoastuk1120
    @eastcoastuk1120 11 місяців тому

    I tried the setup at the range with a 7 iron. I hit some great shots and all landed with a ball roll to the right. (right Handed golfer) A slight fade or just straight ball flight.. If it works with a 7 iron why not a driver. Tomorrow wil be the test.

    Tried this on the golf course last night Steve. I didn't touch the 2nd tee but my drives were straight which is a lot better than the snap hooks I've been struggling with. Do I have to hit the tee?

    Hi Steve.you mentioned that if u hit with a 10% closed stance with a face 5 degrees left i will hit a nice draw.. i want to be able to stand a bit closed to hit great irons but then not hook my drives. All the instructors online but you just teach how to get rid of driver hooks but they dont show how to hit just a nice draw with a driver...could you do a video focussing on how to draw your driver with no hooking please

    • @stevejohnstongolf
      @stevejohnstongolf  4 місяці тому

      I struggle with that shot. I was awesome at drawing driver with older equipment and old ball but now it’s hard work. If I need to play that shot I use three wood or my mini driver🤷‍♂️

    Another channel (I won't mention who) talks about "coming over the top from the inside"... and the level left of Hogan... is this what this is achieving? And is this part of how Hogan got rid of his hook?
    Even in my living room without a club and practicing my normal backswing and follow through and then practicing this (imagining the tee is there left of the ball), it's a different feeling of the shoulders coming through the ball, more of a rotational feel I would say.
