  • In my virtual presentation from the Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA) 2024 conference, I explored AI's transformative impact on organizations. Drawing on my research on AI and entrepreneurship, which combined digital anthropology, computational techniques, and traditional ethnographic practices, I share insights into the complex dynamics organizations must contend with.
The presentation delved into how AI is revolutionizing how we interact with software through natural language, democratizing access to specialized capabilities, and empowering users in unprecedented ways. I discuss the mix of optimism, apprehension, and cognitive dissonance surrounding AI and highlight the critical role of AI literacy in navigating this rapidly evolving landscape.
Throughout the talk, I emphasize the key considerations for organizations adopting AI, including:
Developing deep AI literacy and understanding
Fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing between AI creators and organizational stakeholders
Navigating the complexities of human-AI interaction and agency
Prioritizing ethical considerations and responsible AI innovation
Cultivating organizational readiness beyond technical literacy
I also underscore the crucial role anthropology can play in shaping the future of AI by contributing a holistic understanding of how culture influences and is influenced by AI across multiple dimensions of organizations.
I concluded by inviting fellow anthropologists to join me in actively shaping the AI revolution while focusing on the centrality of the human experience within this new paradigm.
This presentation is a must-watch for anyone interested in the intersection of AI, organizations, and anthropology.
Join me as I explore the transformational impact of AI and share insights on navigating this complex and rapidly evolving landscape.
