Also, the White Scars as a Legion had a huge number of Warrior Lodges, the majority of whom (if not all of whom) were loyal to Horus and were so confident that the Khan would join Horus that they pretty much came right out and started planning to join Horus before the Khan even knew what was happening. But the Khan recognized that Horus was wrong, and so joined the Loyalists. He wasn't happy about it - he knew that Horus and the Traitors would give him a better reception than Dorn and the Loyalists (many of whom didn't trust the White Scars up to and including during the battle of Terra itself), but he knew that the Loyalists were the right faction to join.
