Derek, what a big and GREAT way to meaningfully contribute to the community - your effort, timing and enthusiasm are all terrific. Congratulations and thanks
This is awesome, thank you so much for going through the difference between glass and transparent plastic, I just started diving into Redshift and need someone to go through each function of the properties, and this is perfect, thank you again!
Yeah, it seems much easier now to control the scatter with this Depth slider and Scatter Color. It will be great if Redshift will add some material presets, so that we don't have to start building new materials from scratch. Before release 3.5 we had those presets like: Glass, Tinted Glass, Water, Plastic, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Iron and so on....
Thank you so much for this great info! When I try to render out a simple cube with the prismy glass texture though, it's so grainy and noisy. Do you have any advice on render settings for that lovely prism glass?
Hi your tutorial is very useful, thanks for sharing! But when I tried following your settings I don't get the beautiful gradient result as yours but a solid and ugly color instead. May you point out if I do something wrong? Maybe the lighting or something else? Thanks ahead
I saw that in Maya the Depth measure only starts working if the scatter color is anything but black, if black then nothing happens no matter what value you put into the Depth.
I looked briefly and didn't see the option. I'll check again later, I might have overlooked it in the Command Manager, but the standard material shortcut either makes a c4d standard or rs material....
Thanks for the tutorial. I have a question... What is the difference between the two samples within Transmission? The first one is for the Extra Roughness and the bottom one is for the overall Transmission, right? But I found that even if the Extra Roughness is set to 0 and the sample below it is set to 8 (default) it will have some influence. To totally disable the extra roughness I needed to set its samples to zero, because If I did not the render would be grainy and I would have to pump the extra roughness samples and this would slow down my render. Did you noticed that too? Thanks!
If you're using automatic samples you shouldn't have to worry about it. But samples just control noise, and the extra roughness controls how the translucency of the material
@@effectatron Oh I dont use automatic sampling. And I did some tests and the first sampling is for the transmission itself and the second one for the pseudo SSS (depth)
Hey man, I really love these materials but I can't seem to follow along with the tutorial because the latest update of Redshift seems to have removed Transmission Depth controls (now Refraction and Transmission are the same set of controls). I assume it's all still possible to do but I don't know what parameters to adjust in Redshift 3.5.5. Would you be able to point me in the right direction? Also apologies if there's something very basic I'm missing here lol
Why does it say 22 FREE glass + plastics, and 32 FREE Redshift 3.5 Thin Film Materials? If I follow the links on your page, it says I have to pay $20 for them.
Hola! disculpa la molestia compre los materiales pero no logro instalarlos en mi cinema 4d 2023, como se instala? no lo indicas en el tutorial e hice lo que dice en el minuto 16 y no funciona Hello! Sorry for the inconvenience, I bought the materials but I can't install them on my cinema 4d 2023, how do I install it? You don't indicate it in the tutorial and I did what it says in minute 16 and it doesn't work
Are you on a Mac? You need to make sure you keep the folder zipped to add it to the asset browser. Create import assets select zipped folder. Let me know if that helps and thank you!
What are your render settings? But yea I use to use a 1070 gtx and upgrading to the 3070 ti was 10x faster and then double that when I got my 3090. It sucks its so hardware dependent but it makes the price of the upgrade more worth it at least ha

You are amazing. As a student, it is hard to purchase presets. And you made it so much easier :)
Thank you for all your tutorials! :)
These tutorial series is awesome Derek. Really good explanations. Thank you.
Thank you!
Awesome thank you!. new RS 3.5 is pretty neat
Thanks Derek, well explained and very useful.

@@effectatron Thanks! And I'll check your new video later! Cheers!
I do agree
Giving me some Andrew Kramer vibes with the humor.. love it!
Best compliment ever
Simple and clear! thanks for this video!
Thank you for the tutorial , I'm wondering how can get Alpha channel for this kind of glassy material with depth?
Thank you so much for this great info! When I try to render out a simple cube with the prismy glass texture though, it's so grainy and noisy. Do you have any advice on render settings for that lovely prism glass?
Glass and refraction are always going to require more samples. So just lower the sample threshold :) or select high ans use a denoiser
I hope these videos get more views, you're doing great work here thank you.
Beautiful Series :) i love this , Thank you.
Thank you!
That's very helpful. Thank you

fantastic, thank you
Thanks, man!
Thanks for this great tutorial. Any ideas on how to get the alpha information back into materials that use Transmission rather than Refraction?
Just to clarify, putting the Transmission depth value above 0 seems to get rid of any alpha information in the material.
Ty so much 💖
Thanks for this! Could you please tell me how to add it to asset browser?
Wondering the same thing
Go to your preferences, in asset browser tab simply add that folder
Great Stuff but How do I install them?!

Is there a way create a short cut icon for Standard material ? or when double click that one appears ?

Yes. I couldn't find too.
@@IsuruRandika You can just click the S under the image in the node editor to solo it, it works the same as the old output to surface hotkey.

The Depth feature is still there. Make sure you are using the RS Standard Material and not the RS material :) no worries.

Sorry, I meant to remove that from the description. I thought I had updated all my videos. They were free, but I have recently had to make them $10.
I brought em but the import doesn't work on latest c4d, any chance you could update it?
They work with anything above R26 :)

How do I install the textures to see them in the asset browser?
Just make sure you have material previews on when you add them in :)

Why is there no lib4d format
Is the R23 version ok?
I did a long time, the interface is different, really do not understand🙃
There is no lib4d format because that is a legacy format. The new format is easy and simple to install and use. Yes R23 has the asset browser.
