Yeah, in a quarter that had Djokovic, Wawrinka, Zverev, and Thiem, Chung and Sandgren go through. This was the toughest quarter and they still managed to make it to the QF's. Brilliant.
I would cross Zverev off that list. He's great in Masters, but doesn't have the stamina for best of 5s. There's a reason he's won 2 masters and made the quarters of 2 others, but has only made it past the 3rd round of a major once (and that time, he lost in the 4th).
To summon the nerve and level headedness this guy just displayed at that moment is going to bode well for this guy. Some people just need to know the level is achievable and then take flight. Good on ya man. Sensational win.
Jack Taber damn he looked ok here tbh, his volleying is improved, his flat backhand still mostly poor on hard court when he’s right on the baseline but can pull out beautiful winners. I think he’ll have a better grass court season this year.
BB-8 he lost one tight master to him and beat him in another last year. Guessing pressure got to him at the French open Semi, but make no mistake he has the game to take rafa apart on clay
he's going to play the south american clay swing in february to vulture points with weak competition, instead of staying on hard court and working on his hc tennis..thought he improved this year but basically same level since 2015 , he has more potential though..needs some input outside of team bresnik
He doesn't have the game to beat in form Rafa at a Bo5 clay tourney. He's played Nadal at the French twice, for a total of 14 games. Nadal destroys him at the French. Sure, he can play Nadal close at a Bo3, but no chance in Bo5.
One of the best matches I've ever seen. Credit to Thiem, he's a magnificent player. As for Sandgren, how can you not love the guy? The underdog, the journeyman, rises to the occasion. Not only does he have the strokes and the smarts, he's got the fire. I lost a lot of sleep watching this, but it was worth it.
This is a bigger shock for me than Novak losing. Thiem was playing really well and lets face it Sandgren is a challenger level player. Door wide open for Federer now.
Khang Ho he doesn't choke, he's just not very good outside clay. Also, his ranking is a bit misleading imo, no one plays as many tourneys as thiem, he's not a top5 player in the world (-yet, I hope, thiem is a nice guy)
Who's here after watching his epic match with federer?A unbelievable win for federer but sandgren showed he was a really talented player P/s:Thiem is going to the semifinals who can possibly think that?
I didn't expect Sandgren to beat Thiem but I expected him to do well in a slam one day, because, while he is not very young (he is young though), I have seen a few of his challenger matches and he plays really well.
Wow...like wow...Thiem should have never lost this match! He was playing so well through the tournament! But credit to Tennys, who really at this point was a blip on the tennis tour, but played crucial points well and he definitely hit his shots. Real bummer for Thiem! Look forward to seeing him at the FO! Joker and now Thiem. Big upsets!
I dont think this was the biggest upset although the rank different was indeed the widest. Thiem, with his playing style of big backswings and heavy top spins, is not suited for faster courts. Watched this after watching Chung vs Nole. Tennys is good but i think Chung is on another level. I think Chung should nail the QF match up in 4 sets max.
I wouldn't be so sure. Chung's serve is terrible. He has to break way too often to keep in the match. He broke Djokovic 6 times, and yet, looking at the score, it looks like he broke once. Tennys has a strong serve, and will be harder to break than a clearly still ailing and rusty Djokovic.
Wow! Wow! Wow! First what hard fought match! Thiem was playing UNBELIEVABLE this match and still lost to determine Tennys, great shots selection, he knows can't beat thiem from the base line, have to come to the net to finished points sometime. Tennys you play totally like tour veterans, always play right shots. I hope you can recover after all these tough matches, and keep on your dream run at AO 2018. Good Luck!!
wow, first highlights i've seen with this guy. After the Novak upset then this guy also makes it to the quarter-final. Altough Chung played really nice, i'm now rooting for Sandgren, something i was not expecting before watching this clip. These players that are not so fit looking, like Wawrinka, who rely more on tennis than anything else, just steal my heart!
My social media status is quite low, i don't feel i'd like to waste a lot of time with twitter or instashits and stuff. So far in Portugal (i want to believe) we see the value of the person instead of the sex and colour, that's why we have an indian looking prime-minister and his colour was never mentioned in any kind of media... He's there because he has value... Let's hope we don't get to state where in colleges professors force students to support Black lives mather or forbide free-speach and stuff like that. I understand that anyone that doesn't support the robolady crazy smilling Bill's wife is a total douche, so why bother. Also why don't they make uni-sex tournaments? like some clothes
ah a simpler response to your comment, i couldn't care less who he follows, he could even follow the "hero" Caitlyn Jenner as far as i'm concerned. I like how he plays, that's it!
This was one of the best matches I've ever watched, I was cheering for every point near the end! A few things I noticed from Tennys though, poor shot selection a several times that could have ended points early, his serve to the outside seemed to work every time so not sure why he didn't play that more, and finally, does he know how to hit a smash? If I remember correctly he had a few opportunities and lost the point because he (weakly) put the ball back in play instead of hitting an easy smash. Overall though it takes some huge mental strength to win this especially after losing the 4th, and his play was consistent if not perfect. At one point in the 3rd or 4th set they had a normal rally going and then a battle of wills of 'hit as fast and hard as you can' for about 8 shots with Sandgren winning the battle. I was impressed after watching him beat Stan, and I actually predicted he'd beat Thiem if he played with that same mentality and skill. The politics stuff doesn't interest me. I don't like Trump, but it has nothing to do with tennis, and he seems like a genuinely nice guy in interviews. Go Tennys!
Thiem is extremely talented, athletic, and quick. Throwing his entire body weight behind every groundstroke however ruins his court coverage big time. Ineffective backhand slice doesn't make things any better.
Remember when sangren lost against Marcus willis who was literally drinking a RC cola and eating a snickers bar during the match. Yeah, weird shit happens in the world of tennis.
For the Qtr Final I think Tennys has also 50/50 chance to win, because Alex & Novak they are not comfortable at net, Chung beat them on theirs own game tracking down a lot balls they thought never coming back, and Tennys is different he knows exactly when he has to come to net to finish the points. Good Luck again!!
Thiem had a good chance to reach the semi final, especially after Djokovic's loss to Chung. That disappointment put even more emphasis on his needs to hire someone who can help him better with fast court game.
so bad highlights again it is just unbelievable. You HAVE to show the breakpoint in the fifth set since its the decisive point in that 4h match. Dislike from the bottom of my heart
MP Tennis Dude just go on Roland Garros channel it's even worse. You have a 8-min highlights which is really consistent actually, I've seen way worse on other official tennis tournament channels.
Xuqu Feeder yes it is, going into five sets in a round where he never got past at 3/4 slams, Thiem probably had a lot of pressure on his mind when playing the fifth. He handles the big moments nervously and that’s what is keeping him out of the quarters and semis on hard court, clay he can do it cuz he has more confidence in his game on clay
Thiem puts too much energy into his shots that do not appear to have much behind them. He doesn't go for angles, doesn't come to net much... just sits back and takes big top spin cuts at the ball from way behind the baseline.
Congratulations.... Great win. Hope to yourney will go on after next match where Novak is out and he could won against Korean young star.... For me he is bigger story.
Sandgren looks like a hybrid of David Nalbandian and Rob Halford from Judas Priest. ;) And he´s playing with the quiet stoicism and fighting spirit of Björn Borg. Great athleticism, too.
Sandgren looks like he's thinking about mortgage all the time.
I love this comment.
Sanjog Wayne lmao, so true =))
Sanjog Wayne Oh my goodness!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Like he is multiplying two three digit numbers
If he keeps winning he won’t be.
I like how Tennys always looks like he is totally losing, even right after winnng the match. :D
Modesty never goes out of style. Excellence doesn't draw attention to itself. Hope he can continue his magical run!
thorium222 He looks like the guy who's thinking about mortgage all the time.
@MichaelClark Yes, you are totally right, there are way too many braggers out there and worse off all are braggers who cannot back it up.
@SanjogWayne LOL
thorium222 he has that 'going for broke' look stamped on his face. Another STAR in the making. An Unassuming guy.
If you'd told me before the tournament that either Chung or Sandgren would make the SF, then I probs would've laughed...
you shoulded bet on this XDD
Yeah, in a quarter that had Djokovic, Wawrinka, Zverev, and Thiem, Chung and Sandgren go through. This was the toughest quarter and they still managed to make it to the QF's. Brilliant.

I'll take Sandgren all day, he's playing great.
I would cross Zverev off that list. He's great in Masters, but doesn't have the stamina for best of 5s. There's a reason he's won 2 masters and made the quarters of 2 others, but has only made it past the 3rd round of a major once (and that time, he lost in the 4th).

Good tennys from tennis

There's always that one person that never gets a joke.

don't you mean me and 5 other people ? #Failedremark

Thiem just dying for the clay season to start.
Jack Taber damn he looked ok here tbh, his volleying is improved, his flat backhand still mostly poor on hard court when he’s right on the baseline but can pull out beautiful winners. I think he’ll have a better grass court season this year.

"Thiem just dying" FTFY
Met him at the Sarasota Open last year. Nicest guy you could imagine to everyone - fans, ball kids, staff.
6:46 what a serve!!
Rosario Trainito what a return ! xD
Pretty easy not to love him if you read some of his tweets...
Tennys tennis tennessee. simply superb
This is a bigger shock for me than Novak losing. Thiem was playing really well and lets face it Sandgren is a challenger level player. Door wide open for Federer now.
and berdych
FOr chung you mean lol.
Chung is looking hella good. Even if novak wasn't at his best. The Fed Chung match is gonna be crazy
While Nadal is on the other side facing Cilic and Dimitrov back-to-back.
It doesn't get easier from here for either of them.
Bora Sener Bigger upset was when he beat Wawrinka.
Rip Thiem.... he always goes very near to a QF but never gets a win.... hope the best for him on clay and on the rest of the season!
Rahul TN let’s see, in a bo3 match he could win, in a bo5 rafa will most likely win.
He always chokes
Khang Ho he doesn't choke, he's just not very good outside clay. Also, his ranking is a bit misleading imo, no one plays as many tourneys as thiem, he's not a top5 player in the world (-yet, I hope, thiem is a nice guy)
MCFoultier yeah, I mean on clay is the best second player right now but ne needs to improve on other surfaces
@@michelegavelli2479 now he has improved.
I can't wait for Chung v. Sandgren
How funny this highlights mostly Thiems winners and yet Tennys won
So loving these Tennys/tennis comments \m/
One of the best stories in a Major in a quite awhile! Kudos to Sandgren on bringing it every match.
Name's guy is... "Tennys" ah ah ah and his face looks like David Nalbadian !
Hasard Destin Hope he doesn't turn out to be a 'no show' as Nalbandian.
Nalbandian reached Wimbledon finals as early as in 2002 only to be mauled by HEWITT.
Hasard Destin he looks like Ryan Lochte
He looks a little like Larry Bird
Kenny Vilorio he is Larry Bird
Great for tennys and tennis.
I'm enjoying watching it.
Thiem doesn't know how to play Tennys
ha
Bro, don't be salty, it's a joke
Lmao
So true
I was already writing a hateful statement towards you until I reread lol
Wow! What an amazing match!

Joker and now Thiem. Big upsets!
Didn’t know him and Millman were friends. You can see John-o in the crowd after he wins cheering!
Chung vs tennys
Will be a very interesting game... two crazy mode guys... I think Chung is crazier
I think this was one of the most exciting matches of Australia.

Chung to the semis!
He really does look like Nalbandian! Great to see not just really good tennis, but to see the mental toughness.

Sangdren must be nalbandian’s cousin haha
Tennys must be somehow related to tennis
I am wishing Tennys and Hyeon will have a nice, and for real final match.
Probably the most shocking match so far
Please show the vital break points. In the 5th set the highlights jump from 2-3 to 2-5...
Where's from this Sandgren? He's fantastic, is my favourite for Australian 2018 tournament.
If you notice the stats at the end of each of these, Tennys is hitting over 70% of his first serves EVERY TIME. That's a solid foundation to win from.
Tennis je fajn. Akorát jsem nikdy nepochopila ty zvukové doprovody :D
Tennys is making men's single tennis in America Great Again.
Plus we got Nadal v. Cilic to look out for!!!
This was one of the best matches I've ever watched, I was cheering for every point near the end! Inspiring story and he should be number 1 player by votes for America if not by ranked.
thanks for the highlights, but why does it skip from 3-2 15-15 in the fifth set to 5-3 Sandgren ? The crucial break of Thiem is missing.
Tennys Sandgren wins the Australian Open. Calling it now!
Duh it's a joke.
Daniel Lee its going to be last years final!!
Bra Tennys is Tennis
Raymond Alcantara no it's not gonna happen
Daniel Lee maybe till the finals its true but Nadal is quite in form. just being a realist
Tennis Sandgren is the first player to be named after the game of tennis. He looks like he is anywhere from 35 years old to 60 years old.
Great match but why skip 3 games in last set ? We go from 2:3 to 3:5 missing the crucial break points
Thiem is extremely talented, athletic, and quick. Throwing his entire body weight behind every groundstroke however ruins his court coverage big time. Ineffective backhand slice doesn't make things any better.

and i have thought that thiem could reach another slam qf other than FO...
Welp, the Oz Open has had a habit ofthrowing up shock winners, quarter and semi-finalists. This is another to add to the list.
Terrible highlights, most points show only Thiem playing well, but he lost, show some Sandgren highlights. 75% are about Thiem

Yes, ridiculous!
The guys who make these highlights are obviously not playing tennys and they have no clue what so ever what tennys is all about :)
Well, can't please everyone...
Why do they keep acting like this is such a huge upset? Thiem has hardly won matches off clay since last June. This result is painfully predictable.
Sandgren will be America #1 in the future.
if he keep up this pace sangren is winner of ao 2018 and future nr 1, he would have beaten anyone today
Sandgren is deceivingly quick and has clean strokes. Who is this guy? He's like an American Marcus Willis haha
3:52 Well someone's happy about Tennys winning the third set :-)
I'm so done with thiem he was my favorite player but i don't even think he deserves to be ranked 5 anymore with his recent performances.
BB-8 is mental strength that big of a deal kyrgios and thiem are my favorites
Xuqu Feeder yes it is, going into five sets in a round where he never got past at 3/4 slams, Thiem probably had a lot of pressure on his mind when playing the fifth. He handles the big moments nervously and that’s what is keeping him out of the quarters and semis on hard court, clay he can do it cuz he has more confidence in his game on clay
Nicholas Huynh understandable thanks for the response
Zverev needs fitness, not mental strength. He gases out at every major. Always fizzles in the 5th set of the third round.
Thiem puts too much energy into his shots that do not appear to have much behind them. He doesn't go for angles, doesn't come to net much... just sits back and takes big top spin cuts at the ball from way behind the baseline.
The one plays perfect tennis lost; the one in deep though thrives; it's a funny process and outcome!
This is a great story really. Defeat Thiem is not easy, that I am sure.

It looks like Dominic Thiem was beating the crap out of Tennys, but it was the other way around. Highlights can be very misleading.
My thoughts for those people who bought tickets for the qf’s match btwn novak and thiem..
😭😭😭😭😭 thiem D:

Part of me is just thinking "screw it, I want a guy named Tennys to win a grand slam."
the tshirt won him the match!!!!!
Thiem got thrashed by the old man.
Lol, Sandgren is only 25
He looks old. Older than 25 for sure.
Horrible selection of points as one never understood how Sandgren won. It was a highlight of Thiem.
Thiem definitely has to improve on tactics when playing on surfaces other than clay. His shot selection and court positioning is awkward at times.
That's "one of the biggest upsets in the history of the Australian Open"?! I don't think so, commentator!
4:15 Nalbandian
