Never thought a game would hold up so well 81 years later.
This guy..
same, tbh Age of empires wasnt so good after its release 10000BC
This guy coming in here with the dad jokes, we gotta exterminate you for this one brother 😂😂😂🤣
xd@@kevintimmer2219
Lmfao i was like what??
This is one of my all-time favorite games. The buzz around this game leading up to it's release in 2002 with immense. We couldn't believe the reports that you could basically get into any vehicle in open multi-player maps. Wake Island had a beta release, and after playing it for a few hours, my friends and I were hooked. We all bought the game when it came out and played it continuously for over 10 years. We found other pc gamers in the area and would host LAN parties at a buddy's office. We set our computers up on tables and gamed the night away. At one point I made the top 100 on the GameSpy server. There were several awesome mods that came out, including Forgotten Hope and Desert Combat. This game truly was ahead of it's time.
Desert Combat was my favorite, the Interstate 82 mod was pretty cool as well.
The soundtrack the game the feeling was just all so amazing
I got chills down my spine as a kid and now still
I always wonder if it's just that as kids everything leaves a strong impression or if it really is as amazing as we feel it is.
I mean are there any games we played as kids that we don't feel are the best games ever?
I was 31 yo in 2002. Everybody plays CS..and sudenly BF came out . This game blown my mind.
This is the GAME, I got really into gaming after playing BF1942
damn, i was 10 in 2002 and this was my first battlefield game, and the Desert combat mod.
Best bf ever. I guess i am biased though, since im old ...really old.
Really really old
That's a fair opinion man
Me too. This was /is my favorite game ever. I'm 52. Been playing games since Atari pong.
I played so much of this game when I was a kid, it really was excellent fun. I don't remember the ai being so silly haha, but it does track
I transferred from catholic school to public school at the start of 7th grade in 2002. I met this guy and he had this game in his pc, apart from like flash games and doom, I never really played pc games before that, it was all like Dreamcast and Nintendo. He even showed me the pirate mod for this game. It was such an eye opening experience
4:21 The map size is the main thing that made the game so good. If you want to walk from base to base, that's your fault. Getting ditched at some dead location used to be a feature. People drove around and picked up people, super fun. Kids don't understand.
MmmmmmmM the nostalgia, i played this back in 2006 such an awesome game, todays games cant even compare to this masterpiece
that first map was basically only used as tank battles on multiplayer, also Wake island was good, could actually control the ships and submarines
You... WHAT?
@@alface935 yep, could control battleships, aircraft carrier and submarines as well as aircraft (as seen) back in the day it was really good, it even had a really good modding community
@@LyrinxProductions Yoooooooo
@@alface935 Not the submarines, because there where not any in BF1942.
@@Hiznogood :(
Man this brings up memories. Last time I played was 2014 in Forgotten Hope mod server (Pixel Fighter) with a bunch of older dudes who actually played this game in their college days back in 2002 lol. It was great fun until gamespy server shut down. The community managed to run servers but it didn't feel the same anymore since then.
I forgot about that they ruined the game
I've played this game for 24 hours straight without sleeping! The good old days were when EA GAMES servers were online, there were no administrators, and anything was allowed. We had some great laughs and epic gaming sessions.
No diversity and inclusion
@@derp8575 Yeah yeah, you hate black people, whatever.
Back in the day playing this, most people had a dedicated flight stick JUST for flying the planes. So the way I would play would be jump into the plane, push my keyboard tray in, pull my seat up to the desk, grab the stick and take off. Felt like a pre flight checklist being performed LOL. I felt so immersed doing that. And really, you NEED the flight stick to be a serious pilot.
If only BF1 had bots... It probably would be the best game EVER!
I grew up playing this. Brings up good memories
Remember wanting this so badly and getting it Christmas day 2002, It completely blew me away as I was used to playing games like counter strike and medal of honor
This game was my first fps. I played it for hours as a kid and I still play it a little whenever the wifi is down. The intro and soundtrack still hypes me up to this day.
Remember using All-seeing eye to find and join games. And later came BF Vietnam! How I miss the early 2000s!
I still playing this game to this day but with the desert combat mod. All vehicles are so much fun to use, specially helicopters (when you master how to fly them).
Btw, when using planes drive them with the arrow keys, thats the way to go!
Hi hi, where can I get the game and the mod?
Also wondering where I can buy this
@@michaelroos7944gamefront
I loved this game. I modded for myself and other communities. Figuring out what could be a Server Side mod and what had to be a Client Side mod made modding really fun - the fact certain files could be edited and other people could play on the server without having them was so much fun.
BF1942 was awesome. The sea battles with the ships, aircraft carriers and planes, shore bombardment and landing craft were glorious. There was a big multiplayer battle game before it though. Starsiege: Tribes came out 5 years prior in 1998. Then Tribes 2 in 2001. Those were comparable to something like Planetside (2003) but with skiing!
TRIBES. Thanks dude, I been trying to remember the name of that one for the longest now. Back in highschool I managed to upload a copy of that to the schools shared drive along with halo 1, unreal tournament etc... Good freaking times.
I forgot about WWII Online from 2001. That was WWII mmo. That was too ambitious for it's time though and BF1942 was later able to strike a better balance between scale and playability.
this intro gives me chills i remember playing this so long ago as a kid
been playing this in my teen years, it was so good at the time. all the different vehicles (tanks, jeep, planes, small boat, BIG boat, submarines....) the multiplayer i met many people, the mods were AWESOME desert combat for modern warfare, eve of destruction for vietnam style combat (paint it black blasting through the radio at the spawn!) interstate 82 for races and fun weaponized cars with born to be alive blasting in the disco :D (can't beleive the community is still alive on this one doing events here and there. their website still alive and discord too). I will forever cherish those moments 🥰
Man this game deserves a COMPLETE (I mean ALL the same maps and content plus dlc) remaster. Not just as a few maps on 2042 portal. Kinda sad it never got a remaster
RTX Remix
@@surject nahhh
AI was bad because you did not put enough CPU into AI, there is a lever for it, you also should put at least 1:1 bots on each side.
Man, Coral Sea was the best map....there was some hilarious fun with the planes crashing and diving into the Japanese carrier...so much fun lol
I was 10 when this came out, so much time spent on this, total war rome and DOOM 1-3
This was one of the first "modern" video games I ever played, spending hours on a demo for one of the expansions at 13. After growing up playing games like Pac-Man and galaga this was mind blowing
Damn I’m getting old. I used to love this game so much. The forgotten hope mod was awesome.
get back into it lol
@@moss816 still active?
semi, it's decreased from a few thousand active, to a few hundred. Most activity is on the weekends.@@TheRealDill93
@@TheRealDill93 yes, still active. The mod is Forgotten Hope Secret Weapons (FHSW), there are 2 servers, one in Japan another in Europe. The japanese server gets full on evening weekends (asian time), and the european one also (half server, on european evenings). I play sometime on these servers, got some videos on my channel too.
I was 3 in 2002, but i was lucky enough to play it in 2005 at an internet cafe. Loved it ever since
I played this game back then, it was amazing.
If it wasn’t for my dad i would’ve never known this game i even had the expansion packs like road to Rome and secret weapons
It will never not hold up. The word 'timeless' is overused but I think Battlefield 1942 is a game that epitomises that word. I've recently started playing again for the first time in years and it's as great as ever. The Forgotten Hope Secret Weapons mod is particularly amazing, it gives you a realistic WWII gaming experience like no other.
legend
yes, i can agree that!
This game was my early teens. It had awesome mods like a starwars mod (what inspired battlefront), interstate 82, desert combat, and a pirate mod.
Just downloaded again this game. Played since the wake island demo. Man, i love this game. Wayyyy ahead of its time. The father of all mods. Remember desert combat?
I started playing it about 4 years ago, and I love it ❤ my first bf game was bf 2 with expansion packs and then 2142 🙂
BF1942 was The game changer!
Ha, my 2 other brothers and I would play this map on LAN and each of us would get a tank and camp inside the enemy hanger, which repaired the tanks. 3 tanks camping in the enemy base. Good times back then
I fuckin love this game, great classic! Still own them on CD lol
When this game came out there was no bots and it was hard to log in the big servers with max people then they modded it to Desert Combat and was based off the first Iraq war and it was so amazing.
This was ground breaking when I first played it lol I'm 43 now and I laugh when kids complain bout games these days 🤣
4 life!
Game that got me into "games". Holds a very special place in my heart
WASD and Arrow keys to fly. Use mouse to aim more precisely when already behind an enemy fighter aircraft when in dogfight.
I played this likely for 1000s of hours back in the 2000s. It had a strong player base for years.
Man I was primary school when I played it and I loved it so hard. So nice to see it again haha
I had a clan to do battles against other players in various games. This was the most fun! Will never forget playing my whole Friday evening to Sunday night glued to it lol. Blowing people away with tanks was the most fun hahah
Agree. Our LAN party group played the demo for 12 hours solid.... Wake Island was awesome and the Desert Combat expansion was brilliant.
Ayooo 1942?? Definitely one of my top 10 periods of worldwide turmoil and brutality 👌
still has multiplayer
Crazy to think that we are closer to the 100 year anniversary of WW2, than the release of this game back in 2002. We are closer to 2042 than 2002!
It was the start of something great, and they have squandered the name of Battlefield.
I've loved the BF series from Bf1942, Road to Rome, Secret weapons of WWII to Vietnam. From Vietnam to Battlefield 2, Armored Fury, Euro Force, Special Forces and Finally, 2142...
Then came the beginning of the end for Battlefield with Bad company and Bad company 2... Which gave birth to BF3.... There was a glint of light in the darkness with BF4 the peak of the series... then the end-times began.... Battlefield Hardline, Battlefield 1.... Battlefield V..... and now with the death of Battlefield... Battlefield 2042, The clone of Call of Duty.
All I want is the music back when they make a new one ICONIC
I clocked many hours playing Battlefield 1942. You should have shown the bomber dropping bombs and how devastating it was.
Ehhhhh the bloom from that lighting mod is a little too much. Also, there is a way to get widescreen working. Although I forgot how to do it. It's on the PC Gaming wiki. I play in widescreen myself.
Holy shit watching this intro for the first time in like 15-20 years gave me full body goosebumps. Fuck I’m cultured 💪🏼
Battlefield 1942: *Walks Miles just to find a single soul because of how huge the maps are*
Call Of Duty 1: *Can't stop for One second to breath because of how small the maps are*
Choose your poison lol
Battlefield 1942 with Forgotten Hope mod its la creme de la creme 🤤
I remember playing this game on my dad's old pc back in like 2008 or 2009. I must've been like 7 or 8 then lol
The frickin memories.
I’m pretty sure this was the first PC game I played that wasn’t a flash game. An old Dell laptop using the track pad. Good times
I use to play this game a lot when I was 8 years old on my computer and dad would be yelling at me to stop playing that game.
I played it non-stop back in 2002-2008-ish. Still play to this day. It's so much fun flying and shooting down other planes. My record is 28 in Batlle of Britain.
Btw, that was a Stuka that was shot down and you're British. And it is a 1911 pistol and not a Glock. 😁
This with the Desert Combat mod I think is in my top 3 games ever
I was 33 when BF1942 came out. It was the dogs bollocks.. Quake3 was another big hit at the time. It's what GOOD gaming was all about. Fast forward to today and I'm sad to say I have no idea why I upgraded my PC to a modern (ish) spec R9 5900x 32GB RTX3080ti. All that cash shelled out and I can barely find a game worth playing... because 99% of what comes out these days is dog shit in comparison. Even the stuff that's half decent is WOKE. Being an X programmer, it's very frustrating... writing good games isn't that hard FFS!
This was the first PC game I got to play as a kid back in 05. So nostalgic. Even playing single player was fun.
I loved battlefield 1942 only gripe I can remember is feeling the maps were a tad bit to small but awesome!
I played the crap out of this game when I was a kid. Like countless hours with my buddy’s in elementary school
2002 when my parents bought me this for my Birthday, still the best BF game in my Biased opinion😁
blud called a Tiger 1 a pz 3 at 5:57
Most likely my most played game.. Grew up with it, will die with it..
lol the memories you brought back. game was great. wish theyd remake it. best Battlefield ever.
How are people stil playing thos game? I tried installing it and it crashed my pc because its so out of date
For me BF1 was such a great game and ofcourse I’m still wishing for a BF3 remake
2 years old 🤣🤣🤣
I'm from '96 but god damn that cracked me up!
we really need a remaster of this game :)
I used to play this game as a kid and i remember the bots being absolute greedy bastards 😂 at the start of the match on this map, it'd be a race to the planes and youd be capping teammates along the way. They usually got there first and leave you completely stranded. Goofy
I tried to play battlefield 1942 and battlefront 2 ( the old one ) recently and they are way too dated for me at this point.
They'll just remain as good memories. Had lots of fun with them when i was a child.
Darned pesky new games spoiled me and now i can't go back, hehe.
It was a great game
In all honestly the spiritual successor and sister game Battlefront ( 2004 and 5 ) is the bees knees; although’42 is timeless; Battlefront really perfected that formula
"Panzer III up here"
*Is a Panzer IV and Panzer VI*
i am downloading this game as we speak! i miss it! i own it. I am also downloading BF3 for nostalgic sakes
you'd love operation flashpoint cold war crisis
way ahead of its time, indeed.
bought this game when it first came out
Not sure why you didn't join one of the still-active multiplayer servers.
The planes flew fine, it's just you and maybe your settings.
The planes were meant to be flown with a joystick, FYI
I was 18 years old when this came out and played way too much of it for someone who probably should have been studying for exams. Clunky as shit in many ways, but we had not seen this kind of multi-vehicle big map 64 player thing before then.
WAS IT REMOVED BECAUSE I CANT FIND IT ON STEAM :(
22 years later...
I played this for hours and hours!
It had no bots in it when it launched.
Desert is basically empty, so not be suprised. 🙂
The worst part about this game was that tanks blew up even if a jeep crashed into them.
take me backkkkkk bro plz mannnnnnnn i am crying rn i can't believe bf fell off this bad
look the mod Forgotten hope.. and you can modify the game file that you can with 255
bots :D or more
Try Codename Eagle, the predecessor of BF1942
Lmao yeah the bots are dumb as hell the devs didn't even try. Online play is really the main course.
