I had to move to the Zone Looping System too! I just could not figure out the half week thing, and it bugged me that certain zones didn't get the full amount of time. I also extended the 15 minutes to 20 because I'm old and just don't move as fast. And, along the same lines, with the exception of my hallway and dining room - or my Welcome Zone - each room is its own zone. Since I live in a NYC apartment and only have a few rooms, this works for me. This way, each room gets a deep clean every 5 weeks, and each room gets the same amount of deep cleaning time. You are correct that it goes faster and gets much easier to clean after 2 times through a zone. The first time I did my living room, I spent most of my time cleaning behind the radiator. I don't want to tell you what was back there - years of dust, debris left over from construction.... But, now its done and all it needs is a quick once over with a vacuum! Thank you!

The way you explain this makes so much more sense. I have 3 floors, the exterior and a basement. Right now I'm going through a major declutter after a flood and losing my husband. The clutter is overwhelming. I need to zone my declutter and then start zone cleaning.
Thank you for taking time and sharing. It's helpful

I split up weekly home blessing on a daily basis. I feather dust on Monday, collect trash on Tuesday, windex mirrors on Wednesday, sweep and mop on Thursday, and my husband has taken on the vacuuming and cleaning the shower. That has really helped. He vacuums any day he wants and cleans the shower daily after he showers, that way the dirt doesn’t builds up. We make the bed together daily. We grocery shop together also. I do the cooking usually he helps. Then we clean up from dinner. I usually do the laundry when the hamper is full. Sometimes he will do a load. Last week he wiped down the kitchen cabinets. We share the housework because we are both retired and getting older. I am thankful for his help. I tidy daily so the house looks cleaner when things are picked up. I do the paperwork daily as well. I hate when things pile up. Zone cleaning is hit and miss for me. This week I did zone clean the living area and tomorrow and Friday I will do the dining area.

One task I added to the Weekly Home Blessing is to walk around and sanitize the door knobs and light switches. I use the sanitizing wipes that I also use for my bathroom counters swish & swipe. With COVID still reeling its ugly head, it makes sense to do it as part of the blessing hour, even if you have not had anyone in your home. If you have kids, it may need to be done more.

Zone Looping makes SO much sense! I had the same experience with those partial zone weeks: glad it wasn't just me. Re: what's in each zone - I got a mailer from a house cleaning service that had lists of "what we can clean in each room." Well, how handy! I set the mailer aside to use next time I edit my zone lists - I figure, why not leverage something from the pros? ;-)

I was watching You, Dianne, and The Dove's Nest...then lost track of everyone. The Dove's Nest mentioned you as a person that motivated her...then she was overwhelmed with the third baby. A few months ago I got a note from her saying she would be back soon. I don't know if UA-camrs check up on each other...but she was really good. Like you, and the Zone Looping (which I love so much) she blended Fly Lady and Clean Mama. I thank you...am figuring out my zones now.

Sending furniture and loads of books to my cousin who lost her house in one of the northern California fires now that it is close to being rebuilt which I hope reboots my decluttering efforts. My dream is to have a house that is clutter free so I can seriously get through the home blessing and Zone cleaning consistently for the rest of my life. Thank you for demystifying Zone cleaning.

I'm still working out the kinks of doing the Flylady system in my house. (Mainly because of being sidetracked by a major declutter of my mom's house.) Meanwhile, I credit what success I am having to you, and "Diane in Denmark". You are both such lovely people and easy to learn from. And the permission to adapt the system to my personal preferences has been important. (Perfectionists need this!)
    My adjustments have been these:
    1. Only do the zone cleaning 3 days a week, Tue, Wed, Thu. But do more than 15 min. (1/2 hour to an hour if I get on a roll)
    2. Have 6 zones, and Zone one starts on the first Tuesday of the month.
    3. Put the least-used parts of the house in zone 5 -- I'm an empty-nester so that is the whole 2nd floor, and the back patio.
If I never touch zone 5 for a month or two, not a big deal.
    4. Zone 6 is the yard, which I deal with on weekends, weather permitting.
Also, being the queen of tote bags, I empty one tote bag along with my purse every Friday.

Today is my one year anniversary with flylady where I found it through you. Honestly I was drowning. It’s still challenging but not as drowning it’s so much better. I did zone cleaning/decluttering at the same time with the same loop. It’s less time and it was slower I know but with time it started to make sense and became a routine .

Thank you! Your videos are the best motivation! I'm going to give zone looping a try and this is a good week to start. One aspect of the flylady system I really struggle with is the weekly home blessing. I really can't get much done in 10 minutes. When are we supposed to finish the tasks we started? Timing myself at a normal pace, it takes me over twice as long to dust, vacuum, and mop. Thanks Steph!

Perfect timing!!! I’m just starting and I mapped out the next few month so see what it would be like and there is a crazy month where I have almost no time for a zone. I think since I’m only in my second week I will try looping! I have been choosing what I think needs the most attention in each zone and started there. I look forward to going through everything twice so I can get through more each week.
The old way was rotating through rooms each week. With 5 people we each had a different room and looped every 5 weeks.

Stephanie, I love this! I'm combining the oorganised Mum Method with Fly Lady, and some of what you explained here is somewhat similar to what I'm doing. One question though... how do you factor in all of the outside work? I've noticed, none of the popular systems (i.e. Fly Lady, TOMM, Clean a mamma, etc)seem to give the outside much, if any attention in daily, weekly or monthly or deep cleaning. Once you factor in the porch, garage, mowing the lawn, weeding, gardening (if you do that), and whatever else your outside needs, there's daily, weekly and monthly and seasonal work out there as well. And that can take up at least as much time and energy as the house cleaning...when you include the outside work in the daily, weekly and rotating zone cleaning, that really adds up to way more than an hour a day of housework (both inside and outside together).

Also, with looping, is the first week of the month your zone 1 or do the weeks cycle and say the next month it , the first week would be zone 2? I just love your creativity and encouragement!

Steph, you are a marvel! I think you are psychic! This has come to me at exactly the right time. I had been doing reasonably well with the zones although I was struggling trying to fit everything in but then I needed to take my husband for regular hospital visits and I fell completely off the wagon. It was soul destroying and I felt that everything was falling apart. How was I going to catch up? This Zone Looping idea is perfect - I can extend into a greater number of zones and take the pressure off (including the garden - grass cutting, pruning etc. So I can add that zone in or take it out when I don’t need it). That way I can have a flexible loop. Plus I have dogs that create a lot of hair, dust etc. You are such a motivator - a superstar! Thank you so much. I’m heading off to ask to join the Facebook group. I wish I could give you a big hug 🤗

Thank you for this, I found it really helpful.
You & your videos always motivate me.
I’m really looking forward to the new lists. I’m hoping that I can add British words for things, such as skirting boards instead of baseboards. (It took me ages to work out what they are.)

I like this. I have 5 Zones, but the 5th Zone is the basement/garage, so I rarely get to it. I also looked up lists of how often certain areas need to be cleaned, so certain areas in each Zone only need to be cleaned once or twice a year.

That confused me too. On FL original deep cleaning list, she had "shampoo the carpets" on the zone list. With two small children, living in New England, wirking, etc it never seemed feasible.

@@steppy3736 we have four cats, so we are running the Roomba, steam mopping and dusting a lot. Any other tasks I map out for the Zones are slow and steady. I also thought shampooing the carpets can be bad for the fibers if done too often?

Looking forward to new pdf!! I drown in 'white out' trying to customize my weekly cleaning schedule. (I cannot do 'weekly home blessing' on mondays.) Don't get me wrong--- I am VERY grateful for the free sheets you give us!!!! I could not have cleaned my house with out your help! And, the reason I followed you and really got my house clean, is because you told us and showed us how you fell off the wagon. I am over 60 and have years of seeking perfection and quitting because I 'failed'. You have been a true inspiration and I thank you so much!

Once I finally listened to you and set that timer, it made a world of difference! Been binge watching your starting videos (oh yeah, THOSE videos lol) and getting all sorts of motivation. Started zone cleaning this week for the first time. Can't wait for the customizable pdf's! Love your channel - so glad to have found you!

Love this channel!! Do you have any videos about keeping up with your fly lady routines during pregnancy and having a newborn? I’m in my first trimester right now (first time mom) and I’m really struggling to keep up with my routines in the midst of nausea, fatigue and a general lack of motivation. I would definitely love your thoughts if you have a video. Or feel free to make a video about that if you haven’t already. 😊 I’m sure I’m not the only one who could use advice about keeping up with routines in the midst of a big life change.

Make choises in what routines you do. Making your bed for example is less important than keeping up with laundry. Maybe in your 2nd trimester you are able to do more to get the hang of a routine you can pick up 2-3 months after birth. For now, 3rd trimester and newborn fase: Get as much help and as much sleep as you can.
