- Sorry for the text, it is a bit fast. The designs for the fairy pieces are outdated and they redesigned it recently. I personally like the newer design more but it will take some time to get used to. If you have any video idea suggestions about chess or fairy chess and fairy pieces, feel free to reply to this comment.

And remember, name the fairy pieces correctly!!!

The dragon knight can switch places with its own teammate's square space and when a piece eats the dragon knight the piece will be ignited by the dragon because obviously eating a dragon would literally mean ur eating a pebble of coal I cased within has a burning fire inside 😅
Ironically, the ‘dragon knight’ is less powerful than a normal knight as it can be blocked. Btw, I just came up with these names and it’s called that because it had the dragon scales on the back. You can check out my other video where I explain the movement of this piece: ua-cam.com/video/FceEw01UUpk/v-deo.html

My ratings and names!
Amazon (A) = WWFFN
Queen + Knight, officially worth 11~12 points. This piece isn't commonly used due to its immense power; one variant it's seen in is Musketeer Chess.
Chancellor (E), also known as Marshall or Empress = WWN
Rook + Knight, officially worth about 8.75~9 points. This piece is seen in Almost Chess, Grand Chess, Chess on a Really Big Board, and others.
Archbishop (H), also known as Cardinal or Princess = FFN
Bishop + Knight, officially worth about 7~7.5 points. This piece is seen in Grand Chess, Chess on a Really Big Board, and others.
General (M), also known as Centaur = WFN
Mann (king but unrestricted by check) + Knight. This piece is seen in Renniassance Chess [sic].
Camel (C) = C
(1,3)-leaper, worth about 2.5 points because it's colourbound. This piece is seen in Wildebeest Chess and others.
Wildebeest (V), also known as Gnu = NC
Knight + Camel. This piece is seen in Wildebeest Chess.
Grasshopper (G) = gQ
Essentially a queen, but it needs a screen (a piece within its path) to be able to move, worth about 2 points as it is almost useless at the end of the game. This piece is seen in Grasshopper Chess.
Ferz (F) = F
A bishop limited to one square, worth about 1.5 points as this piece can be useful in the opening, but its value diminishes towards the endgame. This piece used to take the place of the queen if I'm not mistaken.
Wazir (W) = W
A rook limited to one square, worth about 1.25 points.
Alfil (I) = A
A bishop limited to exactly two squares of movement, jumping intervening pieces, worth about 0.75 points as it is triple-colourbound, only able to reach 1/8 of the board.
Dababba (S) = D
A rook limited to exactly two squares of movement, jumping intervening pieces, worth about 1 point as it's double-colourbound, only able to reach 1/4 of the board.
Alibaba (Y) = DA
Alfil + Dababba, worth about 1.5~2 points due to slightly increased mobility, though it's still double-colourbound.
XiangQi Horse (U) = (mW-F)
Identical to the Horse in XiangQi, this piece is similar to the knight, but it can be blocked; specifically, this piece moves one square orthogonally to a vacant square, followed by one square diagonally outwards, capturing any opponent piece on that square. This is worth about 2.5 points due to its ability to be blocked.
Berolina (α) = mfFcefWimfnA
Basically an inverted pawn, can move forwards diagonally and capture straight forwards. It can move two squares on its first move, and it can be captured _en passant_ by another pawn upon doing so. This piece is worth about 1.25 points, slightly more than a pawn due to its increased mobility. This piece is seen in Berolina Chess (where pawns are replaced with Berolinas).
Soldier (β) = fWcefWimfnD
Basically the Shogi pawn, moving and capturing straight forward. Unlike the Shogi pawn, it can move (but not capture) two steps forward on its first move, and it can be captured _en passant_ by another pawn upon doing so. Worth about 0.75 points.
Nightrider (O) = NN
Probably my favourite fairy piece besides maybe the Gryphon and the Rose (neither of which are seen in Chess.com), this is basically a knight that can go an infinite number of knight-moves in one direction, so long as its path isn't blocked (as seen in the video where d6 blocked the check on the king on e8 from the nightrider on c4). This piece is worth about 4.75~5 points, almost as powerful as the rook.
Camel-rider (L) = CC
Basically the nightrider but with camel-moves, this is worth about 3.5 points, less than the nightrider because it's colourbound, and its long range makes it less useful on an 8X8 board.
Alfil-rider (J) = AA
A bishop that is limited to moving an even number of squares, but can jump every other square, worth about 1~1.25 points.
Dababba-rider (T) = DD
A rook that is limited to moving an even number of squares, but can jump every other square, worth about 1.25 points.
Alibaba-rider (Z) = DDAA
A queen that is limited to moving an even number of squares, but can jump every other square, worth about 2.75~3 points.
Dragon Bishop (Δ) = FF(mW-F)
Bishop + XiangQi Horse, worth about 6.75 points, only slightly less than the archbishop due to its increased ability to be blocked.
Stone General (γ) = fFcefFimfnA
Basically the Stone General seen in Shogi, this is a pawn that moves and captures forwards diagonally. Unlike the Shogi Stone General, this stone general can move (but not capture) two steps on its first move, and it can be captured _en passant_ by another pawn after upon so. This is worth about the same as a pawn, maybe just slightly higher (1.1~1.25).
Sergeant (δ) = fWcefWfFcefFimfnDimfnA
Soldier + Stone General, initial double-step moving and _en passant_ also apply to this piece. This is worth about 1.5 points.
This comment mustve taken a lot of time. Thanks for the support! :]

Ok, so I left a comment here about 7 months ago that basically laid out each piece in a nutshell; however, I recently found a somewhat simple algorithm to calculate the values of different chess pieces (I used a spreadsheet for the calculations). This obviously isn't going to be 100% accurate for every piece, but I thought I'd put these down anyway.
The values listed below are for an 8x8 board, where pawns start on the second rank and promote on the far rank. Values are rounded to 5 significant figures.
For reference, here are the values of the orthodox chess pieces according to the algorithm:
Pawn - 1.0000
Knight - 3.0000
Bishop - 3.3750
Rook - 5.0000
Queen - 8.3750
Mann (non-royal king) - 3.7500
And here are the fairy chess pieces:
Amazon - 11.375
Chancellor - 8.0000
Archbishop - 6.3750
General - 6.7500
Camel - 2.5000
Wildebeest - 5.5000
Grasshopper - 1.5000 (
That’s pretty cool, what did you use?
@@ElektroMagnetizm These are basically mobility scores; the formula just looks at how many squares each piece can control from each square and compared the values to that of a pawn. Obviously, mobility isn't the only factor when determining piece value, so the formula definitely isn't 100% reliable (as seen by the value of the Alibaba compared to the Knight), but still thought it was cool enough to share.
Real flaws include not taking colour-bound weaknesses into account and stating that hybrid pieces have a value equal to the sum of their base pieces (e.g. "Queen = Rook + Bishop", though we know the accepted value is 9 and not 8). Obviously, a Knight is generally going to be better than an Alibaba as the knight can reach all 64 squares given any starting position (in one or more moves); whereas, an Alibaba can only get to 16 from a given starting position (only 1/4 of the board!).
That last piece is a menace ☠️☠️

Yeah, these are cool and all but I'm yet to see a variety that feels as natural as the 6 standard pieces.
When you realise how pawns are designed to capture diagonally so that they could support each other while being blockades and how Knight is designed so that it can attack queen without being attacked.... Like it is the 8 closest squares where a queen cannot reach that is made into squares a knight can reach...
There are some I think
If Knight designed to attack Queen
Then how did Knight exist b4 Queen
Chess used to have Ferz instead of Queen
@@hy7864 no no no... I'm not saying in an hystorical sense. My point is just about how knights movement kinda looks like it compliments Queen.
If you consider a 5x5 box with queen at the centre, there will only be 8 squares the queen cannot reach in the next move. That's exactly where the knight can reach.
All I wanted to say is that the L shape movement is not as Random as it sounds. There is a really logical explanation as to why it is as it is.
@@newbie4789 the knight’s movement existed back in the 8th century I’m pretty sure

The possible movements of the main shatranj pieces, excluding that of the king and pawn, are complementary to one another, and without any omission or redundancy occupy all available squares with respect to the central position of a 5x5 grid

Knights are normal
Bishops are 5 so they aren’t the same value as the knights
Rooks are 7 because 1. I want it different from the bishop and 2. I want to keep them odd numbers
Queens are normal
Chancellors are 9 because to checkmate alone the opponent needs pieces aligned perfectly
Archbishops are 11 because it can checkmate with no help of any kind and it counters the bishops weakness

The Dragon Knight Should have an additional Capture ability which follows a double L. Basically can capture as if the knight moved twice.
Sorry about the reply, I didn’t read the entire thing
That would be pretty overpowered, the dragon knight is actually an orthodox piece in xiangqi (Chinese chess), and so was completely based off the xiangqi knight (mao)
@@ElektroMagnetizm Ya, I made the comment before realizing it already had some differences from the normal knight.
@@lethallohn it called it dragon knight but ironically it’s weaker than a normal knight xd
ninja + assasin when?
Imagine if these pieces existed in regular chess 😳
Lol that would be chaotic. Would like to try it tho sounds fun :/
They haven't update chess for years
@@hy7864 centuries, actually. They made some minor changes like pieces’ skins and names
@@ElektroMagnetizm skins & names changes aren't really update
@@hy7864 minor changes
I don’t even play chess and this is actually quite entertaining/interesting :/
Start playing :]
@@ElektroMagnetizm idek where to start :/
@@emeraldclover346 just do it, start playing. You will get used to it
The dragon knight should be 2.4 because it is a knight that can't jump over pieces and not very stable and also dragon bishop should be 5 because it is like the archbishop (Knight+bishop) but can't jump over pieces
2:20 - i honestly thought this piece was called "pallete". It doesn't have power to capture anything, moves like a rook, and you stand your own pieces on top of, so the piece can be trasported somehwre else it cannot originaly go with it's own movement
2:54 - again, by the name of it, the "spring" - i again thought it was some kind of a buff-piece that you have to stand your own pieces on top of to get launched over pieces or something
4:00 - this should've got the ability to not capture, but to push enemy pieces back a square when placed near them
this shoud be a reply to many of those comments above or below.the assasin and ninja is not "infinited" knight or giraffe movement.just doubled.if it was infinite when you click on ninja all the squares will have a dot on it.a knight can travel the entire board.

Chess.com or the app
@@ElektroMagnetizm but how? In which option lets you creat a game like this?
@@chesswithmax2991 pretty sure you can only do it on the website but I’m not sure

the algorthym will blow this video up right?
Probably. I started 2 months ago and it gets like 1K views overnight. Im currently working on another fairy piece video. The other three fairy piece videos also kinda blew up. One has more than 1.1K views, one has more than 2.2k views, and one has more than 500. The views are all increasing
Thanks for watching :]
I love ninja because its make easier check the enemy
and alicorn its very powerfull and OP
The giraffe knight op
Yeah, I’m actually making a video right now about how it is op. The Amazon 0:05 is more op tho
@@ElektroMagnetizm oh ok nice
Can you try the rook+knight
3:21 sus piece💀
💀 dirty mind activated
The frog and grasshopper can be more in my opinion as it can easily take out a queen or smother mate
Not that easily
Alfil is "thrice-colourbound", only being able to reach an eighth of the squares on the 8×8 chessboard.
In order for a Grasshopper to move or capture, it must jump over one other piece, and land on the square just after that piece.
It would have to be in a specific situation to pull off a smothered mate. It is quite weak in most situations
@@hy7864 it’s kinda like the Chinese chess cannon which is pretty op
@@JevonChen unlike grasshopper
Cannon isn't restricted to only land on the square behind that piece & also doesn't require other piece to move passively
What if this was chess 2
DUCK
First: Amazon.

Seventeen:Knight rider, repeated knight moves.
Eighteen: Camel rider, repeated camel moves.
Nineteen: Alfil rider, repeated alfil moves.
Twenty:Dababy rider.
Twenty one: Alibaba rider. Where will the rider pieces stop?
Twenty two:Yep, its the Dragon bishop. Combines quanxii horse and bishop.

Maybe the flower is a xiangqi piece that is the guard also called the advisor or counselor or a kinged checker
While the carriage is a xiangqi piece that is called the Chinese king also called the general
The messenger and spear is identified as the checkers piece but it’s not part of xiangqi pieces
The pusher is a shogi piece that is called the Japanese pawn
1:34 f5 is mate lol
Bishop and a Knight combined is an Elephant , Knight and Rook combined is Hawk and it is not a Giraffe it is a Camel
Oh sorry I swapped the names
The "giraffe" is a camel
Yes
The 1st piece real name is amazon not aligon😅
0:03 "This is easily strongest piece there is."
No. It is the strongest piece *in your showcase,* but I can easily come up with a stronger piece. My piece has the movement of a Queen, a Nightrider, and a Camelrider. Boom. Take that.
