20140927 Tumbleweed Corsair F31 Smokes a J 80

Having some fun on the Corsair F31 Tumbleweed on a perfect Seattle afternoon with Matt and Wayne. Matt demonstrates what new sails and flawless rigging can do to a helpless J 80 out in the Puget Sound.

VeeJay - they were going to weather, so neither would use a spinnaker. The F31 shows not only that is is WAY faster on a beat, but also quite close winded as well. Multihulls are not supposed to be able to point as high as monohulls but clearly they were staying as high as the J80, AND going a LOT faster. It's impressive.

They often say that about "Multi Hulls", but they confuse a catamaran with a Trimaran. Trimarans point much better than Cats.

I can’t imagine what it would be like on the mono leaning over doing 5-6 knots

So sad ... you guys really think that picking on a J/80 without a spin going and not on plane is a serious deal?

Hmm even so I think the Multi would take it.

so OK ... try 4 kt wind ... and the J/80 with spin going. I now remember I did 19kts on the F-31. but only 14 on the J/80 so the high end is perhaps a problem.
