      It was a funny nod to a long standing myth. "Last ditch" Arisakas were and still are quite capable weapons. The bad reputation they got came mostly from faulty late war ammunition then post-war individuals attempting to shoot live ammo through trainer Arisakas mistaken for "last ditch" rifles.

    Missed a uniform between 1950 and 1960, it was an OD uniform that tucks just like an OG-107, but is domestically made and designed. To be fair, the JSDF didn’t receive many hand-me-downs and made/domestically produced their own equipment between the 50’s and late 70’s.
    *Edit: The uniform they missed is called the Type 65 OD uniform. It would see service and would never be officially replaced by the Type 1 uniform even by 1985.*

    I suspect within the next 10 years, they might start reviving other branches of their military and start bringing it back to its old strength in order to properly respond to growing Chinese aggression in the region. And it seems the US is also pushing for that since it seems they want a smaller role in protecting Japan all by itself since it also has to help other countries in the region with the same issue.

    • @ls-420stoner6
      @ls-420stoner6 3 роки тому +193

      In my opinion, the U.S. is an untrustworthy country because of their unstable political system. With each presidential election, their foreign policy changes from one extreme to another. One presidential cycle, they could be good friends, the next president to assume power could leave their "allies" open to abandonment and vulnerable to agression. Japan should repeal Article 9, obtain the ability to have a nuclear deterrence, and become fully independent of the corrupted U.S. in their ability to stand up to any CCP agression in the region.

    • @arias1234
      @arias1234 3 роки тому +207

      @@ls-420stoner6 that's good in all, but the biggest road block to that is both of those opinions are very disliked by the Japanese people themselves, especially any type of nuclear deterrence. There are plenty of politicians who go against the creation of standing army, and it's it's used often as a political stance as well.

    • @冰和芒果橙
      @冰和芒果橙 3 роки тому +4

      @@nathannaite0709 This is a typical political rumor. Among the three leaders with more voice in China at that time, Mao Zedong was the most tough to the Japanese. Chiang Kai Shek hoped to reconcile with the Japanese temporarily, while Wang Jingwei hoped to make peace with the Japanese and even surrender.
      Later, warlord Zhang Xueliang led his army to put Chiang Kai Shek under house arrest and invited Mao to negotiate with Chiang Kai Shek. Mao's attitude towards the Japanese can even make his civil war opponents respect. There is no Chinese original data to show that Mao will thank the Japanese.
      A common saying was made by Mao when he established diplomatic relations with Japan, but at that time, Mao's only evaluation of that period of history was that he said to the apologizing Japanese official that "Japan's harm to China can not be described as adding trouble" and asked Japan to make a more serious apology. There was no data to prove that Mao thanked the Japanese.

    To think there was an idea of forming a Polish Legion in the Japanese Army during the Russo-Japanese War. I wonder what would it look like, had this idea been realized.
    Speaking of which, Evolution of Polish Uniforms would be a cool video. Even when there was no independent Poland for over a century, there still were Polish Legions, the Army of the Duchy of Warsaw and of the Kingdom of Poland (established at the Congress of Vienna, as an autonomous part of the Russian Empire). The uniforms of uhlans/lancers in armies across Europe were based on the Polish ones. Even during the January Uprising (1863-1864), when the Polish forces were irregular, so there were no standard uniforms, you can still show how the typical insurgents looked. Plus some units, like the Zouaves of Death, had a distinctive look.

      I got to disagree to some extend not because of the quality of the animation but because its not uncommon that the videos portray myths or are inaccurate so the research seems a bit shallow. For example in this video he portrayed the last ditch arisaka as a useless weapon when in reality it was nearly as capable (and very reliable) as the standard arisaka. They just cut down on production cost with the looks (bad furnish, some metal parts not polished where it doesnt matter for the mechanism ect. ) this myth originates from us troops taking captured training arisaka rifles who they thought to be last ditch rifles back to the us (they used blanks instead of live ammo) and using old amunition from ww2

    Recently, I'm watching world history videos
    because I like world history.
    Most Japanese high school students are
    supposed to take university entrance exams, I'm one of them. So, we must study English.
    There're other exam subjects,but I'm
    watching when I take a break.
    Do you think videos like this are important for training your English?

    • @HenryMidfields

      残念ながら日本で大学入試受けたことないのでそれに関してはアドバイスできません。ですが、英語の勉強は将来役に立つと思いますし、日本語だけでは知らないことも学べる楽しさもありますよ。最近のUA-camでの自動の英字幕はかなり正確になっていますし、実際に使われる英語を聞き流すだけでも理解力がだいぶ違ってくると思います。どうぞ頑張って下さい!
      Unfortunately, I can't advise about the university entry exams in Japan as I didn't take them. Nevertheless, I think learning English will help you in the future, and will also help you know stuff not discussed in Japanese. Recent auto-captions in English Yutube videos are becoming more accurate, and at any rate, it makes a difference in understanding even just by causally listening to English spoken in real-life situations. Nice video but something about the Type 99 "Last Ditch" rifles. The myth about the last-ditch version of the rifles being unreliable or dangerous to shoot are largely untrue.
    It is often misunderstood that both Japan (and Germany) often produce unreliable rifles during the late war period, which was untrue. While Japanese produced several odd or bad designs during the war, their rifles were some of the exceptions even in their "last-ditch" moment. There's no point in simplifying and producing rifles that won't work properly in the end (seriously, what's the point of issuing rifles that will explode on your face the moment you fire it? That's a waste of resources). The late-war Type 99 rifles were mentioned to be on the same level as their pre-war version, even better in some ways due to its simplified design that suited a "battle rifle". It was just the materials used were weaker, but by no mean they were unreliable or not safe to shoot. Its action is based on the reliable Mauser action, which is still used to this date. Some people had made videos about the last-ditch version Arisakas already, and they used them just fine.
    So yeah, Arisaka is still a good rifle, Type 30 or 99, both good.
    Have a nice day.
