He could always ex knee akuma air fire ball. They made him better way better. He's not cheap though. If you're not afraid Alex he still cant defend himself. But he's viable now.
Exactly. They addressed his weak conversions, bad AA, weak V-Skill and buffed his VT2. He still needs to get in to get his damage. He sits somewhere in the middle now. Probably low-mid.
We'll see how it goes. I think how good he'll do depends on how consistently he can get his ex knee. He still has more options to defend himself than a lot of other characters even outside of VT1. A lot of these buffs are insane but I am not sure how he'll fair against the best characters which could be his downfall as usual
Alex has been rekt for season and constantly getting nerfed, this is just a small buff imo. You cant even knee from his cr.HP launch anymore. That entire special is near useless except from the EX and occasionally in the corner. Frames are so crap we cant even use it to escape corner anymore. Also I just use st.LP to AA. I didn't even know about the st.HP AA buff
Not really practical though, V-skill on a back rolling or quick risen opponent is still unsafe. But hey at least we can build a bit of V guage more often now
Reminder: you have to actually LAND a v-skilled normal for any of this cheap stuff to matter - which is easier said than done. ...EX Knee is now crazy good though.
Yea it's useless. If they just buffed that your next hit will be guaranteed hard hit not list by any attack. Getting to use the V-skill itself is a hard enough job let alome using it.
Alex isnt cheap. Hes just viable now. We spent last 2 seasons as a sand bag. No more my guys!! We coming for you top tiers!!! Watch everyone pick up Alex now hahaha
His v-skill actually has purpose and now everyone saying he's cheap. He still doesn't have a proper wakeup or a 3 frame normal. He's definitely mid tier but not top tier in my opinion. Ex knee on the ground is kind of cheap though🤔
Ex-knee was needed as a finisher for conversions. Alex's Oki was very weak prior to S4 and Ex-Knee gives just that. It should be noted that Alex has to spend meter on it and you can either block or duck it when it's used raw.
@@orenshin10 I'm fine with it brother cause I'm a Alex main. He needed all those buffs. What I meant if I had to pick one thing that might be a little cheap is the fact that you can Crush counter lariat into full combo then finish with EX knee then get oki after. I'm loving it even though people are saying already that hes cheap.
@@severeoutcome4982 Yeah, and Alex still has slow normals with poor to no damage conversion unless you hit with a Lariat or get a counter hit standing MP. His Season 4 buffs help him on hit, but it does nothing to actually help him get hits easier. What people really wanted was for his crouching MP to start in 6 frames again like in Season 1 (or at least 7F instead of 8F currently), since you couldn't cancel it anyway, and for his regular Air Knee Smash (dp+K) to have some anti-air invincibility so that it's actually reliable instead of forcing you to use the EX version all the time. The new standing HP anti-air is an improvement over his current meterless options (namely crouching HP and dp+LK), but it's not without weaknesses either, namely a 9-frame startup which means it can't be used as a twitch defensive move, and having a fairly short range and will lose to longer ranged jumping attacks and certain cross-ups, like G's. Alex will still crumble to well-spaced air pressure without meter, and even with the EX version, he can't use it against wakeup jumping meaties as there's no first-frame invincibility. Now that EX DP is no longer fully invincible on frame 5-13, but only to air attacks and projectiles, it's also riskier to use it to get out of a corner during frame traps. This season's buffs still don't fix some of Alex's issues, such as: 1. Flying Cross Chop (d+HP in midair) is still pretty slow to start, travel and recover, so it's still only useful as an occasional escape move. 2. Choke Sleeper (HP+HK after Flash Chop on V-Trigger 2) still misses when your Flash Chop hits at the tip, and you're forced to cancel the EX Flash Chop on the first hit, so it only does as much damage as the LP version. 3, DDT still whiffs against crouching opponents, even if you hit them. They should just give it a hitbox against crouching attacks and make it blockable instead if the intention is for it to be a damage extender. Still, I'd agree with the general assessment that Alex is considerably better this season, and I look forward to a less miserable season with him.
Just to clarify, they didn't actually buff any of his normal hitboxes forward. They just increased the horizontal range of them backwards a bit since there were sometimes obscure scenarios where his normals could whiff through things that were too close to him.
I like how they were talking about how great his V-skill frame advantage buff was but clearly never played alex before because of how infrequent time you have to ever do it. Even the after ex buff is useless, you do it and you will get full punished. Only time I ever get to use that is if im full screen or after stun.
This will be a nightmare for me since my matchup knowledge vs alex is crap (akuma main) and I lost quite often the past seasons against him but... you know almost no one mained him lol So now we can finally see what this guy can do (on and offline) and finally learn this match up, even if it means get roasted some more (at least for the beginning)🔥
Yeah...this character definitely gonna be scary to face if you make one mistake against this character. I kinda feel like they gave Alex more tools to rob people than actually helping his neutral. But other than that, character can actually fight the cast now and do some dirty stuff as well. Can’t wait to see what the Alex community can do with this character
First time i got to fight an S4 Alex yesterday. I got exploded into little pieces. Sure the player was much higher ranked than me but it felt like i was completely hopeless. Wasn't the case in S3 so i guess good job.
Afaik, the 1 extra frame input window for sledge after ex is so you can't parry immediately afterwards. It's actually a nerf. Overall, great, much-needed changes for our boy!!!!!!!
vskill looks good but it's still only available on hard knockdown (leaves you at best neutral) or stun no? You still have to roll a d6 and land on a 5-6 for the thing to work as intended. Also they didn't fix his legs and hair so he's still low tier.
Even with these buffs he could stand to have his AAs buffed more; EX Knee can still lose to jump-ins and st.HP is only a frame faster as an AA than his cr.HP and still loses to crossups despite being so slow
I started playing street fighter 5 to use Alex, I'm very happy to see him get some love. I would get cross up'ed to hell so I love the standing HP change.

Now it's just a matter of time until Alex is nerfed back to being 100% useless after people complain enough. ;( Let's enjoy it while it lasts Alexnation
Every time he said " that's so cheap " it makes me realize that they have no idea what Alex can do. He now has tools that he can use. Most his moves where "closed off" to him during certain situations. Now that they did this they gave him the necessary tools to convert into and utilize the rest of his tool kit instead of spamming the same buttons and being forced to play super predictably or get forced into being gimmicky as all hell. I can't say I see him being top tier as he still has obvious weaknesses, but he is definitely viable now. Very good changes to Alex but that st.hp anti air is my complain, its the same thing as birdie ( and Akuma sometimes b-hp ), even if the player reacts late he could still stop you at max height.
The AA frame does not start until frame 9. That is not a panic AA button. And it's the single frame, the rest of the move is still just the way it used to be. So if he does it too early, he eats full jump in combo. I'll still be using cr.HP or EX knee, since they're way more rewarding.
As usual I find it quite funny how all the lack of knowledge about Alex make people scream about him being cheap. His vskill is good for one use, if you hit him or if you block his first attack right after vskill it disappears. And it's such a slow move you seldom find any time to do it without getting punished. And his ex knee he has to burn meter for gives him oki, that's cheap? Meanwhile Mika can cmdgrabloop you over and over with no meter needed at all. I mean if you think he's cheap, just pick him up and see for yourself how cheap he is. You'll find whatever character you used before is more reliable to get the W. I'm a Zeku main now, Alex will always have glaring faults like no light or medium can even combo into a knockdown without meter. No one that complain about Alex mentions how terrible that is. All they remember is how they failed to jab Alex out of a cmdgrab into dash-in to another cmdgrab when he's -4, because they got no idea it's not even real
@@ToiletDuckFan no I stopped playing because Evey character played almost the same and you couldn't be a individual with a character. Keep talking shit though
I don't get how Ex Air Knee is "cheap" now. You literally have to burn bar and hit confirm properly to land it. If you just throw it out and get blocked you get punished for it. It's like any other DP except Alex can't wakeup with it. It's just a good aa that properly puts the match in Alex's favor if the opponent wants to constantly jump
No, you missed the reasoning: It puts Alex close enough to okizeme his opponents wake up. For example, Kage's EX DP pits the opponent too far to oki unless you do it in a corner. Ryu's heavy tatsu used to put opponents too far from him to oki too and with Season 4 it's close enough that Ryu can dash in and that is considered a major buff.
@@Laerei That's pretty much what I was implying... my point is I don't see how it's cheap since it's a much needed oki tool that punishes jumping opponents but punishes alex players that are just gonna throw out the button just because they feel like it

The only buff EX stomp needs is to hit airborne opponents. It would give him a scary situation after powerbomb without needing to have a throw loop and it would not make stungun headbutt useless outside of YOLO cancels.

By letting ex stomp catch airborne opponents, it makes the opponent legitimately make a proper decision based what's coming instead of holding up and having an answer that stops both.
