Very good - i hope this is the same problem with mine! Why would you not use WD40? I only have that at home, so before i run out and buy some different oil I thought i'd check. Would much ratehr repair it than buy a new unit if possible. cheers

Wd40 is a water dispersant. Not really an oil. Bike oil would do.

Does this fan need a transformer, or can it be wired directly into a light switch (pull cord)?
This one is a 220 v model so no transformer. Depends on the model.
Thank you for the great video. Do I need to switch off the mains before tinkering or will switching off the isolator switch suffice?
I guess it depends on how brave you are and how much you trust the isolator?
The one I have, the fan is loose on the end of motor - there is no grip at all, so fan slips on motor shaft and can rattle and shake while spinning. It also never reaches full speed, and the motor unit feels hot to the touch as its not getting cooling air. There is also some sort of loose short spring type collar thing sitting on shaft under fan, but doesn't seem to be doing anything. Tried to jam the spring ring around the plastic edges on fan which grip the motor shaft, but its not stable... slips off the plastic and hangs loose again. Any idea what this is supposed to look like and work?
The little ring should squeeze the fan onto the shaft. It may be possible to get a bit of rubber or something around the shaft and clamp the fan on with a small hose clamp. But you could just replace the whole unit, not too expensive?
@@bootsowen Was thinking of super-gluing it maybe? Well, decent ones like Vent-Axia are over €100 these days it seems. Not sure this kind of cheap fan is forth it performance wise.
I would take it apart as I have shown in some of these fan videos in my fans playlist. take it apart, re oil it, clean it. and use a 2 part epoxy to repair it. I did something similar to a tool in this video around the 17min mark: ua-cam.com/video/le9daaqxWxY/v-deo.html
@@bootsowen I have a hot glue gun - going to try some hot glue in fan centre then jam on motor shaft and hope the glue hardens enough to grip the knurled shaft end.
