I'm definitely going to be looking into that NYX primer when I need to replace my current UD one. I just can't justify spending $24 when I can't use it up before the expiration, so $7 is much more reasonable.

I tried the essence primer you talked about and i have really oily eyelids and not even an hour later it made my eyeshadow crease like crazy :/ i tried like 4 times. So if youre really oily i dont suggest!

Jordan Van Rooyen yeah, I bought that primer because of this video and I hate it :( I recommend the hard candy one though because that was my first eye primer I ever used and it lasted through school (8:35-3:05pm) and a 5 hr work shift (4:00-9:00pm that same day). I have super oily eyelids too.

Same, the essence primer, does crease on my lids, I tried both ways setting it with powder and without. I also did a comparison with other 2 primers and in intensity of the eyeshadows it was last. I will continue to use justbto finish it. So far for me the only one that has really worked is the the MAC eye primer. I'd like to try the Urban Decay. I guess drugstore brands they just don't work for me.

Thank you so much for this video! I have crazy oily lids, which is funny because the rest of my face is dry. I kept finding that eyeshadows would crease so fast on my eyes even with some other primers. Now I know which ones that would be good for me:)

This is a great review!! Thus video made me very very happy because I am a HUGE advocate for animals rights and I hate animal testing with a passion. Since this was a drugstore video, I thought you were going to talk about brands like cover girl, maybelline, revlon, etc. but the only brand you mentioned that tests on animals was Loreál. I am so happy to see more people buying more cruelty free products!!!

Would love to see a Frugal Fridays video on long lasting drugstore lipsticks. Would love to see a wear-test for each. For example, applying it in the morning, vlog-style videos or photos through the day, and a check in at the end of the day. So many drugstore
lipsticks claim to be long wearing but at the end of the day most are disappointing. Would love to see them out to the test!

The Wet n' Wild Fergie primer is the ONLY primer to EVER work on my EXTREMELY oily eyelids. I never had that scaly issue you mentioned, and never had creasing even after wearing it for hours on end. Not even slightly. I let my aunt try it (who also has oily eyelids) and she LOVED it. So I'm not sure how you applied it or why your experience was no good, but I'll be sticking to it :) (it beat the Urban Decay one for me too)

I wish they were all squeeze tubes like the Hard Candy one. The ones with the doe foot applicator shoves all the products to the sides of the tube. I had a tester of the urban decay eye shadow primer potion and I used it a couple times and then it was "out" of product. I cut the tube open and nonetheless, all the product was smashed onto the walls of the tube because of the insertion of the applicator. Drives me crazy lol. I had to throw that out there in case anyone else had the same problem 😊

Jordan Jimenez I know this is an old comment but with products like this, when you can't get any more out of the tube with the applicator, take the applicator out, remove the rubber stopper (if it's an applicator tube it will have this) and then pour the product out into a container for further use. If it's not easily coming out because the product is really stuck to the sides of the tube or it's very thick, put the tube in some hot water first and then try it.

I love the Milani primer. Last week I fell asleep with my makeup on and I when I woke up, my shadow looked like I just applied it. I'm 55 with oily lids and live in a warm climate. Milani primer is awesome, it doesn't make lids crepy or flaky and lasts for hours.

Great video - For me the elf one does great preventing creasing all day, but you are right about the eyeshadow not adhering to it - I still have to use an eyeshadow base like the nyx eyeshadow base to make the shadow hold and look vibrant. Gonna try one of these other ones!

I use the Essence primer and it consistently creases on me. I have oily eyelids and it lasts on me 6-8 hours before creasing. I live in Northern Cali, so it is not as hot and humid as Florida, but today the weather was around 75-80 degrees.

  • @elihill543

I use NYX primers, I have tried the proof it! and I loved it, however, the CVS near my house recently cut back on the NYX products they sell, so I tried the newer eyelid primer called Haute Definition Primer and it is very similar to the proof it, I got long wear out of it, it was amazing. One thing slightly different that I actually like better is it works more like a face primer, it smooths, mattes, fills creases, and even skin tone beautifully, which I definitely need since my veins show through my fair skin. Highly recommend this product.

I also didn't like the fergie one. It made my eyelids oddly sticky and my shadows were impossible to blend! I know you said you like milani and nyx, but how do they compare to UD primer potion? I have been saving up, so I have the money to splurge right now. But if the cheaper ones are truly better, then I might as well splurge on something else.

Could you have maybe gotten a bad one of the Fergie one? It's my go to primer and I've never had that issue. It's amazing for me. It holds my eye shadows forever, feels almost like it's not there over the course of the day, and combats my oily eyelid problems. I have yet to find a better primer, including Urban Decay. But to each their own :)

Hi, Z.! Thank you for your very informative video. I have similar problems since I have oily eyelids and the warm weather here in Greece makes things worse, so your reviews rescued me for one more time.By the way, last two months I tried two primers, not drugstore but quite easy to find. The one is the Avon eye primer (the one in the pot) and I find it to be really good and cheap. I do my makeup at 7.00 in the morning and when I'm back home from work at around 6.30 in the afternoon all the stuff I had put on my eyelids is still there (and stays on until I decide to clean my face). The other one is the Sephora primer in the black tube, which is somewhat pricey and promises that it lasts 16 hours. I'm sure that the number 6 next to 1 is a typo! Seriously, 1 hour and 15 minutes later my eyelids are like a Pollock's painting... Anyway, I always trust your reviews so the next purchase will be Essence or NYX and I hope them to be what I'm looking for. Thanks again!

    • @Zabrena
      @Zabrena  9 років тому +37

+Jeanelle Huffstutler Hi Jeanelle! I would recommend using half a pea sized amount, you don't need much. Sometimes if you apply too much, it can contribute to creasing. Also, are you allowing it to dry on your lids completely before beginning your eyeshadow application? If it's not dried completely, it will crease and can make the eyeshadow appear unblended and give you a splotchy application. Hope that helps a little more! :)

I bought the nyx proof it primer because of this video and let me say THANK YOU!!! Oh my word...I did one eye nyx one eye Mac 24 hour primer and nyx won hands down!!! 12 hours into nyx eye looked like I just did it, wing and all and Mac eye was a muddy mess and the wing was gone
I also put the nyx proof it on my hand beside Mac painterly paint pot and swatched eye shadow over it...no contest the nyx side was deeper more pigmented and it made the paint pot swatch look patchy and not good lol

I agree with you on the Wet N Wild Fergie eyeshadow primer, it was kind of scaley/flakey. I ended up winning mine from a contest, and used it for a while since it was my first eyeshadow primer. . . then I got a Naked palette and it came with samples of UD's primers, and made the switch. How would you compare the UD one's to the NYX and Milani ones?

Glad to have some other cheaper options. I just spent $20 on Urban Decay's original primer potion and it feels like it is going to scorch my eyelids off. 20 minutes after I removed it with makeup remover, soap and warm water, and put on a soother and moisturizer, I still feel like my eyelids are on fire.

The only one I have tried that works for me is Cover Girl Lid Lock Up. I also have greasy lids. Milani and the Urban Decay
Primer Potion both creased the eyeshadow for me.

Glad I watched this. I usually go for Urban Decay but they have become pricey over the years and I needed something much cheaper but just as good. I also dislike the elf primer. I have very oily lids and I tried it a few times but it just doesn't work out for me

been waiting to see this video ever since you mentioned you were going to test eye primers. i know what you mean about the magic decrease, i have noticed that scaliness after i apply. I don't know if im using too much or too little but it just seems to crease after a few hours. i will keep trying until it is empty but i think i am moving on after i finish it. oh and i have really oily lids and live in so. california

The nyx primer in the chubby stick works great. Very smooth, not like the mac's paint pots. Give that one a yry. I use that more than the mac primer. The mac primer is too thick and hard to blend in. ☺

I've been using a Maybelline Fit Me concealer for an eye primer and it's awesome. The shade wasn't right for my face so I figured I'd try it for that so it wouldn't be wasted. I get all day and night wear with it and my makeup geek shadows.

I just bought the NYX one without watching any reviews because i have super oily eye lids and i was desperate 😂
I hope it works for me because i heard once that the primers that come in a pot form like the Mac Paint Pot are better for super oily eye lids

Your makeup is so pretty! I've never used an eyeshadow primer before, is it any different than using foundation as an eye primer? Thank you so much for the video Zabrena, I know which primers to check out if I get one. Hope you have a wonderful weekend! :)

Katz4me It's very different from using foundation, especially if you have oily lids or you just want more vibrancy out of your shadows. My sister doesn't have oily lids and didn't think she needed it, but I convinced her to give it a try and now she says she doesn't know how she ever did eye makeup without it.

The Fergie primer dries weird. The coverage dried my lids out too much and it was splotchy.

Yeah I noticed it seemed to dry out my lids too (and my lids are naturally oily) --and I seem to be a bit allergic to it as well bc it can be a bit itchy and gave me a bit of eczema. :( Too had, bc it helped the staying power.

thanks for the video, this is was awesome. I personally like primers with a tint to them. I have a new age spot on my eye lid under my brow that came out about 3 years ago. HATE IT! joys of getting older....NOT! So the tint helps me cover that up.

Great video Z! I was wondering if you could do a video on how you use Vaseline and bronzer to make your legs tan? you had mentioned it in your bronzer video. I going to a wedding this summer and don't want to wear stockings and I have pasty white Irish legs.

Hi beautiful! Thank you for trying all these out for us. I use Nars pro prime, but will most surely try the NYX or Essence since they are more cost effective!!!
