Another great video Steve! Do you need to provide any weight on bow to better track when poling from platform fishing solo? Given the “obstacle” a trolling motor would present when fly fishing, still, do you encounter many situations where a trolling motor would be worth mounting on the bow? Do you pole backwards from the bow very often? Sorry for the multiple questions but am building a 16 footer similar to the Emerger and trying to make some rigging decisions. You are one of the few I see that fishes solo the way I do.
Thanks for the comment! I usually pole from the bow when I am alone. I tend to focus on small areas where I gently push myself along and line each shot up. I do not pole backwards much but have in the past. I think that given the way that I fish the trolling motor is not worth the added weight and noise that it makes when trying to sneak up on fish. I would say the one thing I have always wanted is one of the power pole micros @JLMarineSystems. That would really be a benefit as long as it does not interfere with the back cast. The upper lean post tends to interfere with back casting and therefore I have to side arm a lot. I am a fat as@ so being on the platform tends to make the bow rise. A normal size person could pole from up there no problem solo. The skiff is so light it really is easy to control with the pole it moves effortlessly.
Thanks! Great points to consider. I just recently bought a fly rod combo so going to try my hand. I too have considered the micro anchor just haven’t made up my mind yet for the new build. I have the manual stick it pin on my Towee. Thanks again for the reply. You really 6:59 6:59 do a great job with the videos. I enjoy them
You are going to love the fly rod. It is a journey. I am glad you enjoy the videos. Rex offers some free classes monthly for people entering in to fly casting I think it is the last weekend of the month at Economy Tackle. He is a wealth of knowledge. I assume by your area code you are near us.
Understood the assignment. Nailed it.
Thanks for the kind words!
