  • Why F1 is Worth $120B LESS Than The NFL? Well today we'll aim to answer that question and why it affects the way drivers like me should approach sponsorship and social media.

It’s so true that, especially in Canada/US, if you go to a racing event, or talk about racing, it’s always assumed you’re going to a NASCAR race, or talking about NASCAR.😢

The culture is changing. A lot of people haven't realized that the Pandemic helped F1 tremendously. It was the first sport to start again in 2020 while the big 4 (baseball, football, basketball, and hockey) were still on hiatus. F1 will be absolutely huge in the next decade here in the states

Great video Cam! I think you nailed a huge part of the issue at the end which is accessibility…Ticket cost and the fact that the avg person can at least pick up a 🏈 an throw it around.
I’d love for racing to be more accessible for all whether it’s watching it or being a participant.
    (Oh and GO RAVENS!)

Thank you! Lot of effort goes into videos like these even though I know they are less likely to perform well. It's an interesting topic, and I think it's important to zoom out from time to time to understand how the sporting world really works.

You know, I think the cost cap is great and all, but it’s irrelevant. What F1 needs is to copy as much of the NFL as possible. I’m not just talking about revenue sharing (which they should, sorry top 3 teams), or exclusive broadcast rights (sorry Sky), I’m talking about a complete change of mindset among the teams. They and Liberty need to sit down and decide that what is best for everyone, is ultimately best for themselves. You don’t often see NFL team owners seeking to disadvantage another or fighting or anything like that. Because when the Bengals go from a joke to the Super Bowl, that gives the KC Chiefs money, even if they are rivals and if it creates a team that can beat them consistently.
There are a lot of problems with the NFL, and a lot of good things F1 just can’t copy. But it shouldn’t be hard to see the issue with teams constantly fighting. Management should not be involved with sporting in the teams, and Red Bull should want Williams or Haas to go from the dirt to beating them. It creates a story that people want to see and a story that even people who don’t understand the technical side of things will love. And that is how they can learn and get hooked as a viewer of F1 for life. A viewer that gives red bull money for life.

Question: Is the ownership and management structure in NFL as convoluted as F1 seems?
For F1 you have so many corporates wanting their piece of the cake: FIA, Formula 1, Liberty/FOM, even the constructors themselves have a fair amount of power because they are named brands and there’s only 10 of them - the big teams are, for the most part, irreplaceable.
Getting everyone to agree (without concessions to soothe pride) must be pretty difficult and I can’t help but wonder if it’s a “too many cooks in the kitchen” situation?
Anyway, GREAT video Cameron. Perfectly balanced and presented 🙏

You're 100% right. F1 is a complex organization, and I'm planning on doing a video about that in the future. While it certainly has more democratization that it has in the past, it adds a level of complexity that seems to slow down progress at times.

In Europe, we have thousands of sports we watch like football (not your American version), and if you look at how it's all funded it's higher in Europe overall in comparison to American sports. (all competitive sports)

Great analysis and l'd look forward to more insights like this when you have the opportunity to share more of your first hand experience from the F1 ladder.
Looking at maybe more of a direct comparison, how do you think the F1 numbers would compare to NASCAR? Especially as one seems to be rising while the other is falling.

    • @CameronDasRacing
      @CameronDasRacing  8 місяців тому +2

I don't know the answer to that, but I'd be intrigued to do a deep dive video about it. As far as I know, NASCAR is the only motorsport that is paying driver salaries in the ballpark of F1, and I've heard the budgets for top tier NASCAR teams is not far off smaller teams in F1.

In Ireland 🇮🇪 Tarmac Rallying is our National Motorsport so watching World rally championship is popular even though thers only 3 teams. But f1 is massive too and now NfL is gaining traction i watch a bit of NFL the odd time i like how technical it is , I used to play Rugby as a kid too though so i like how its so different.

I'm in Australia and every time I see a sport that's not on free to air TV I think that sport is OK with dying in 20 years in exchange for big telecast deals today. Other countries might have greater paid subscription take up and it is more popular than ever today but you don't get new fans paying to watch enough to grow your sport. f1 was on free to air when I was growing up. In 20 years time they will find out that only having the Australian GP on tv will put them on an ever downwards trajectory.

Will be interesting to see what happens with US team/league values given the collapse in cable subs in the US. US professional sports have been subsidized by millions of people that never watch sports. This is now ending. And the people that watch sports will have to pay much, much more to cover this or the teams (and players) just get less money…

F1 potentially has far greater reach and target audience than NFL rivalling football and tennis as it's fundamentally a better sport. NFL is just not going to be watched outside North America.
The thing is F1 is not a spec series and majority of times there is no championship battle which really hurts its popularity. If F1 introduces a rule to force teams to have the best drivers in both seats then F1 popularity will sky rocket.
Instead we get slow number 2s not challenging the number 1 driver (Perez, Bottas, Webber, Barrichello, Fisichella, Massa, etc). If every season was either Senna vs Prost or 2+ team championship battle then F1 would be ridiculously entertaining.
F1 should ban team orders, have some basic labor laws in terms of equal treatment.
