Brilliant presentation. But there is a problem. The statement that DANKWA and his UGCC did not want the whole Ghana to have independence cannot be substantiated. It is not in any known history book in Ghana. In 2024, story telling cannot replace written history. So far, the man is telling his own version of the story. He was I do not know how old how old he was when UGCC was formed; I do know who gave him the information about Dankwa’s position. Certainly, he could not speak from experience. Let him refer to the books he is using and we shall refer to confirm. Meanwhile, I cherish his presentation in general.

It is sad that people like you will say today that nkrumah alone gained independence for Ghana.
Most elderly people who have spoken on the matter have said it is wrong for Nkrumah alone to be celebrated. They believe it was a collective effort. They say the fight for independence was not the idea of nkrumah. The fight was started before he was invited in.
If you think he is the only one who founded Ghana, it's up to you. We will listen to our grandparents who witnessed it themselves than you so call technocrats. Sorry.

The others who were fight independence were with the mindset that they want be from any colonial rules.

Dr. Frimpong is a renowned historian that we are all proud of. But he got the case of the Mayflower wrong. The Mayflower was one of three ships the Pilgrim Fathers used to travel to the Americas. Two returned with some of the people, who were afraid that they were not going to find any land. The Pilgrim Fathers left England to find a new land where they could worship freely, away from rules of the Anglican Church, which was controlled by the monarch of England. They were not fleeing from an epidemic.

    • @davidasanteamoah7499

No bro. No. Kindly check your facts well. They didn't leave England for the purpose of free worship only. Some left due to an epidemic, others left due to weather conditions, whereas others too left to find new lands to till, especially the farmers who felt cheated in the serfdom system

@@user-fv4md8uh6q There is no historical evidence or credible documentation to suggest that Kwame Nkrumah directly persuaded the three ex-servicemen to march to the Castle (the seat of the British colonial government in Accra) on February 28, 1948. Neither are there records again to indicate that he persuaded Nii Kwabena Bonney to organize the 1948 riots.
      Background of the March:
The march by the three ex-servicemen-Private Odartey Lamptey, Sergeant Adjetey, and Corporal Attipoe-was part of a broader protest by World War II veterans in the Gold Coast. These ex-servicemen were dissatisfied with the colonial government's failure to fulfill promises made to them after the war, including compensation and better living conditions. The veterans were facing economic hardship and felt neglected after their service in the war.
On that day, a group of ex-servicemen planned to deliver a petition to Sir Gerald Creasy, the British Governor of the Gold Coast, at the Castle. The petition was intended to highlight their grievances and demand better treatment. However, the peaceful march turned tragic when the colonial police opened fire on the unarmed ex-servicemen, killing Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe, and Private Odartey Lamptey. This event sparked widespread riots and disturbances across the country.
      Nkrumah's Involvement:
At the time of the incident, Kwame Nkrumah was actively involved in the nationalist movement as the General Secretary of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC). While Nkrumah was a vocal critic of colonial rule and advocated for independence, there is no evidence that he was involved in organizing or persuading the ex-servicemen to march to the Castle.
The march by the ex-servicemen was part of their independent efforts to seek justice and better conditions, and it was not directly linked to the activities of Nkrumah or the UGCC at that specific moment.
      Aftermath:
Although Nkrumah did not persuade the ex-servicemen to march, the 1948 riots that followed their deaths became a turning point in the struggle for independence. The colonial government's response to the unrest, including the arrest of Nkrumah and other leaders of the UGCC (known as "The Big Six"), further fueled nationalist sentiments. Nkrumah's leadership and activism in the years following these events played a crucial role in Ghana's eventual independence in 1957.

Anokye, as an educated and developed person, you may have realized along the way that no question has a simple an answer as you want to think. Nkrumah didnt step in a vacuum to lead Ghana. George Washington led the war of independence in the US. He then assembled a group to write a constitution. They became the Founding Fathers and he didnt even include himself. Lawyer Anokye, i dont know how old you are. Im 83 years old and quite grown up when the indepence movement was raging. By the way, youre inadventently painting Nkrumah as a wicked manipulator who used the lives of people to achieve his ambitions. Lawyer, you need to research more.

  • @Okoragyak
    @Okoragyak Місяць тому

Mr Historian, Dr Nkrumah is NOT the sole founder of Ghana, but he played a part, albeit a catalystic and revolutionary one in foundation of what we have as Ghana: The membership of The Aborigine's Rights Protection Society and The UGCC whose earlier anti-colonial work ( before Nkrumah was even invited from London), protected the land of the so- called "Coastal Colony" by twarting the efforts of the British from putting those areas under British crown. Be mindful that Britain would not have stopped the land grab at the Coastal belt, but would have moved to the interior through to the North to claim the same, had it not been the astute or shrewd effotrs of the ARPS and the UGCC, and "INDEPENDENCE" would have been next to impossible or VERY DIFFICULT to achieve: Does South Africa and then Rhodesia or Zimbabwe comes into mind? Stop the emotional and simplictic presentation of our history and instead be OBJECTIVE and include those who started the job and even sopnsored Dr Nkrumah to Ghana to begin with. Stop the emotional outburst and be academic!!

This man's distortion of history is so annoying. Guys, read Nkrumah's autobiography and you will see how intellectually dishonest he is. It was R S Blay who picked up Nkrumah from the port. Kwame Nkrumah accepted the 25 pounds salary. Kwame Nkrumah had no connection whatsoever with Nii Kwabena Bonny's boycott as well as the ex soldier's demonstration. All of these are written by Nkrumah himself in his autobiography. Even his account of the big six is a lie. You can get the audio version of Nkrumah's autobiography on UA-cam.
