The mutual intelligebility among Akan dialects, such as Bono, Wasa, Fante, and Akwapim, is very high. It tells you one is the parent language.

What Lawyer is saying is true. My mother if alive would have been 92years.My mother is an Nzema. When I was young, long before this narration she told me all Nzemas are from Techiman. Later when I grew up I realised the Nzema language was similar to Bono language. Lawyer's historical narration has confirmed what my mother told me.

According to Asantehene, Akyems and Asantes migrated from Adansi.
Kokofu migrates from Esiakwa. Most of Bono lands wasn't inhabited. If there were why will Duah Yaw migrate from Asante to Duah Yaw Nkwanta?
2: Dormaa migrated from Akwamu so when lawyer refers to Dormaa Hene he looks very suspicious that he is up to something.

    • @amoahfrank5162
      @amoahfrank5162 3 місяці тому +6

Take your time. You noticed what you wrote does not follow timelines... Follow this timeline of our possible migration:
      Akan Migration and Settlement Timeline
      10th to Early 11th Century:
The Akan people began migrating from the Western Sudan region (Old Mali - Niger). Over the course of 20 to 50 years, they established several settlements along their journey. By the mid-11th century, they reached a stable area and founded Bono-man-so, named after the people, Bono (Piesie/Akan).
      Establishment of Bono-man-so:
Under the leadership of Chief or King of Bono, the towns of Takyiman (formerly amowi/yefri) became the seat of government for the Bono/Akan people. This meant that all Bonos/Akans, including those from adjoining villages, were under the jurisdiction of the Bono/Akan chief/king with the central governance located in Takyiman (in place of Bonomanso).
      Mid to Late 11th Century:
Soninke/Mande warriors attacked Bono-man, albeit mildly, causing many Bono/Akan people to relocate for safety. This led to the emergence of new settlements:
Adanse: Formed by those who moved for safety and became prominent builders, hence their name Adanse.
Fantse: Parted ways in the early 12th century.
Nzema: Around the same time, some people moved from adjoining areas of Adanse and remaining Bono settlers to settle along the Comoe Lagoon before finding their current location.
      Early to Mid-12th Century:
Other groups such as the Wassas, Anyi/Aowin (including Nyinda or Ahanta and related people), also settled in various locations.
      Early 13th Century:
The Twifos emerged from among the Adanse and remaining Bono people, settling in their present location. Some Kyeras joined their Adanse brothers, becoming the Denkyiras, who served under the first Adansihene, Nana Abu. His leadership introduced the Akan "Abu sua" system (learning the mechanisms of family classes).
      Mid to Late 13th Century:
From Adanse, Denkyira, and Twifo settlers, further villages sprang up in the lowlands of Adanse-Denkyira, collectively known as Amansie (including areas like Bekwai). At this time, places like Atwima, Mampong, and Sekyere were not yet settled as the Twifo/Twi language was not pervasive.
Late 13th to Early 14th Century:
Bono (Takyiman) had lost its prominence but retained ceremonial respect. The peak of Adanse power occurred during this period, later overtaken by Denkyira in the late 15th century. The Akwamu emerged from among the Twifo and some dissident Adanses, becoming a pseudo-power.
Late 14th to Late 15th Century:
Adanse lost its hegemony, and any Adanse or Denkyira person could become a proclaimed king if they were an Agona. Several other Akan towns/states and people emerged, such as Okyem/Akyem-man (primarily Adanses).
      16th Century:
The Denkyira established a tyrannical reign, with Akwamu as a feared ally. Denkyira's power extended to Wassa, Aowin/Ebrossa (who later ruled the Ahafo people until the emergence of Asante in the late 17th century), and Anyi. The Fantses were not strong allies of Denkyira because the Europeans had settled among them, and the Wassas had moved further inland, leaving the coast to the Fantse settlers and some Guans.
      15th to 17th Century:
Akyem became a state long before the emergence of its branches like Kokofu and Abuakwa. These groups arose from the main Akyem/Okyeman due to war exploits or other reasons.
      Late 16th to 17th Century:
Smaller Akan states emerged and gained prominence, such as Dormaa (the Odo man) and Asante.
      Our Migration and Settlement Patterns:
The migration of Akan people from Bono does not mean that other Akan groups cannot reconquer or interfere with the present mainland Bono. The statement that "most of Bono lands were not inhabited" is true chronologically, as the population increased over time. In the 10th to 11th century, the population was relatively small (not more than 100,000 to 300,000), but it grew as people resettled.
      The Issue of Duah Yaw:
Duah Yaw migrated from Asante to Duah Yaw Nkwanta because there were still vast uninhabited lands in the Bono area. Lawyer Anokye's statement does not imply an immediate population of 5 million Bono people, but rather a gradual increase over time.

Gyaman and was the reason Asokore created a buffer in Brekum.
Lawyer Anokye is being funny. When we want to refer about Bono affairs it should Nana Takyiman not Dormaa. He doesn't understand Akan Clan lineage that's his problem.
2: Bono was owned by no one. Else why will Sampa, Mo, Banda and many more be independent? Please stop the joke that Bono was reconquered. Why then is Ahafo people Asantes and not Bono? Anokye is Nzema he know nothing about Clan lineage.

    • @amoahfrank5162
      @amoahfrank5162 3 місяці тому +5

Lawyer's point is valid. He uses Takyiman as a geographic reference to help people understand the seat of rulership being referred to. The areas that became Bono-Techiman in the early 18th century, after the Asante conquest, were once known as Bono "Amowi," then Bono "Yefri," and later Bono "Manso" in the late 13th century. The lawyer is not claiming the original name was Bono-Techiman (around 1723), but rather using the current reference for immediate understanding by listeners.
Moreover, those who ruled in Bono-Techiman were descendants of the old Bono-Manso/Yefri/Amowi, except one younger descendant (the Asante) who had become powerful enough to interfere in the affairs of Bono-man. Therefore, the lawyer has not made a mistake. History is often recounted this way for brevity in timed social programs. In a book, he would likely have included all the details.
We should be cautious about quickly dismissing such accounts as mistakes. It's better to be patient and fill in the blanks if you know more details, rather than assuming an error. The descendants of old Bono-Manso still ruled when Bono-Techiman was formed, though they were restructured and reoriented to serve the supreme king of Asante's interest.
