Hey man thanks for the video , my car shredded my belt back in December and jumped timing all over the place .. used your time and tricks and got the timing and everything set in an hour and cars running again . Thank you so much man
Thank you so much! It'll be my first attempt doing a timing belt, water pump, cam and crank seals. I've been searching and watching a lot of other videos. Your video instructions did have some techniques that I found useful, therefore going to add your video to my playlists to guide me through all four jobs.
Awesome video thanks. I do not know why but I struggled so much with getting the timing belt back on. It had little to no slack with trying to get it back over the 2nd gear. I was fixing my lifter tick with replacing the lifters with new ones because I couldn't get the originals apart haha. 1st attempt it didn't start but I got it the 2nd time.
Straight talk ... well done ... best Timing Belt install seen on UA-cam!!! Agree with Checkpoint 22 post!!! Zoom zoom ... one owner/Yellow '92 NA Automatic (love it!!).
Thank you and Kudos for making this easy. Just did my valve stem seals. Beavis Motorsport had a nifty tape trick for installing the keepers. Car Passion had a good video on the whole process.
It couldn't get any more simple. One of the several great things about the MX-% Miata; it's easy to work on! Full disclosure; loving owner of a "97 NA Miata.
AWESOME video. I have a 1990 that I'm doing timing belt and water pump and new lower thermostat housing. My cam gears only have 2 notches instead of 3. When I put my gears back on exactly like I took them off, the exhaust side (driver side) is about 90° off. The car ran well before I took it apart. I have pics, but not sure how to attach them here. The motor was apart before by the previous owner. Looking for some advice. Anything would help. Thank you.
I know this video is 2 years old, but I need help! I'm doing a 1995 1.8 engine swap in my 1990 NA Miata. I've done a ton of research regarding the project. I've made sure to watch youtube videos and check forums before attempting anything on the engine. I've recently replaced the waterpump, cam seals, and bottom crank seal. Next up was the timing, hence this video. But I've run into an issue. After aligning the cam gears, I went to align the bottom crankbolt with the arrow and the notch, however, I can't turn the crankbolt around enough to get it aligned. I haven't forced anything as I am too scared that I am hitting a valve with a piston. In all the timing videos I've watched including this one, the bottom crank bolt is already aligned before doing the timing, in my case, it's not already aligned. I know everything is supposed to rotate in sync, otherwise pistons will hit valves, but how do I time it right when I can't get the bottom crank bolt aligned. What am I missing?
Replacing timing belt and bits on 1996 miata. I inadvertently rotated the crankshaft when removing the pulley bolt. Is it safe to hand-rotate the crankshaft clockwise to get it back to TDC? Thank you very much,
No I have found that water pumps rarely go out in my world. We can also change one out in under an hour so its not a big deal to change one out. I do install new water pumps on every rebuild. If you have the timing belt off it might be a good idea to change out the water pump as well as the cam seals and crank seal.
You are correct it will snapback if you don’t keep pressure on it so once you get it lined up on the tooth that needs to be just keep pressure on the 14 mm wrench
Awesome video. Unfortunatley during my rebuild of my 94 to add a turbo I left off the timing plate. Guess I'll have to estimate the E and I positions and do some trial and error. 🤦♂️
I have a 1991 Mazda Miata that will only try to run when the cam sensor is turned all the way clock wise all my timing marks line up just like yours did in the video any ideas?
Should you be able to turn the motor over with a ratchet without the spark plugs in it? I rotate this with a ratchet engine it’s like it’s going up against the cams and not rotating. Thanks
How do you know if it’s jumped timing. I had a 303 code and 123 code. I’ve replaced the tps sensor cleaned out the intake manifold it was clogged in one of the ports and still happened to be hesitant when hitting the gas
I did an exhintake (exhaust cam on the intake side) cam swap. Is the front lobe to be in the same position as normal timing when done or not. PLEASE let me know as soon as you can, because I'm totally confused and I want this to run right from the 1st start. Thank You So Very Much!!! Best Always and in ALL WAYS,
I have a question, hopefully someone can help. I have the exact same whine. My belt was already pretty tight wen I put it all together,no weird loose spots. It was all pretty even. The spring did not tighten the belt at all. I did give it a tiny push just in case. Is that my whining problem? I did time it correctly I'm 100% sure. Anything else that could be causing it ? Also I have a slight sputter on takeoff. It's completely smooth on idle and fires up right away. Any help. Thanks.
The second I let of the belt everything moves one tooth off because the cams have some spring load. I have a jassperformance tool, that was rubbish because it doesn't line up at all. This is mad.
Both my intake and exhaust cam won’t stay in place or at least one of them won’t stay in place so I can get one done, very annoying , you make it look so easy
Thats the way I like them fast and to the point. even though I could make more money the longer they are. When I am watching videos on UA-cam I want short and sweet.
i didnt count the teeth, i just used the marks on the crankshaft, and the ones on the cover aligning with the camshaft sprockets, it worked, and i did it 2 times lol
I did not know if you were off by a tooth it could cause bogging, I went out, changed it and now I have so much power, I can't keep the tires stuck to the ground ;) jk jk lol Great video tho, thank you!
Best video ever. No unnecessary intros, no flashy logos, just straight to the point as it should be.
No fluff fluff, lets just fix the car. That is my motto. Thank you for subscribing and the comment
Man just your vibes and clear confidence from experience makes me feel like I'm back with a good teacher in school. thanks for what you do

This is about the most clairvoyant presentation of this I've ever seen excellent job
Thank you for that.

The VERY BEST video about timing belt! Thank you so much! I went to the garage and did it for 5 minutes! Just amazing!
Way to go Valeri, everything is simple on this car as you will find out. Please let me know if there is a video that you need.
@@aracing I'm ready to put the engine back in the car now :D many thanks 🙏 if anything comes to my mind I will request, thanks!
Fixed mine!!! Huge thanks for the easy set up.
You made this so easy to understand. Nailed the timing belt with no hassle thanks to this video.
Thank you!!!
Glad it helped!
Awesome video! Informative, to the point and showed everything that was done. Keep up the good content man
Between big al and Greg from car passion you guys helped so much
Thank you so much for your video. This is my first time commenting to thank the publisher. You helped me so much
Thanks!

I addressed your question in the most recent Monday Q&A, check it out: ua-cam.com/video/Z2ebEAey8Qk/v-deo.html
Bravo, keep it simple. Many others fix the gears and fall to explain it properly. Thank you!
it is how I like to watch videos, simple to follow and no fluff fluff

Wow the ever so rare Yellow. I have owned two of them so far. They are way cool looking and very hard to find. Congrats.
Thank you and Kudos for making this easy. Just did my valve stem seals. Beavis Motorsport had a nifty tape trick for installing the keepers. Car Passion had a good video on the whole process.
Its all easy stuff, thank you for taking the time to reach out.

Is this similar to how you'd do it on the ND Miatas? I can't find a video.
Do you not set the tension after?
Yes when Im done setting the belt up. its the last step.

Such a great asset to the Miata community

Sure or just spin it around again. Them align the top pulleys
Do you always change water pump seals etc. when you do timing belts jobs?

Ur awesome man! keep up with these videos there very helpful thank u a ton!!!
Thanks, will do!
Thank you for the easy to understand video.
What about if you hear a popping noise in the intake. Does this mean the timing is off?
AWESOME VIDEO BRO AND QUICK TO THE POINT!
I can’t get it to line up cause the pulley keeps snapping back into place before I can set it when trying to use the 14mm to set it.

yes, you will have some resistance from the cam lobes but still should be able to turn the engine with a ratchet with no plugs.
@@aracing Thank you I hate admit it but it was in gear.

Good Job Dude !!!!
great video. Where did you get that cool shop light ?
Borrowed from our kid in my class(Issac) I think he got it from Harbor freight
@@aracing thanks !

Anyone still on this video? I was told that you line “i” on intake side and “E” on exhaust side ? So i to e on the block and e to I on the block/cover
Made it look so easy
Both my intake and exhaust cam won’t stay in place or at least one of them won’t stay in place so I can get one done, very annoying , you make it look so easy
Email me your number alangulo530@gmail.com
You have the pulley on the wrong side, E on int and I on exh?
Nope the I on the intake side should point up and the E lines up with the E on the front plate. Just the opposite on the exhaust side.
thank u for this
What’s the easiest way to get it to top dead center
Line up the harmonic balancer notch to the "T" on the cover or take the cover off and line up the crank gear with the notch on the oil pump
Thank you for showing your tricks! You really cut down the time from other videos being 15+ minutes to explain the same thing
Thats the way I like them fast and to the point. even though I could make more money the longer they are. When I am watching videos on UA-cam I want short and sweet.
