If you want to do the rear corner next, then do the rear corner. It looks awkward, but will resolve the rear end, then you can move forward.
Interesting series! I vote for finishing the rear corner, whilst you are on a roll.
The sheer effort required to make a tiny piece of panel! It's no wonder the car companies rapidly adopted press tools.
Wendy and the polishing mop made me laugh.
Reminded me years ago I bought a brand new copper & hide mallet, when I got home with it I put it on the coffee table and forgot about it.
I had to go out and run some errands and when I got back my dog Lizzie (Scottie/Lab mix) had eaten the hide end of my new mallet :)
It’s a smaller car project but your metal fab skills are increasing quite well.
Nice job
I have my fingers crossed that, when you’ve completed this lovely body, you find a monster aero engine to fit in it. Two birds with one stone. Perfect.
😂
At least Wendy is looking relaxed. 😂
Great job with those two pieces. I, personally, would like to see the back end finished
Love the safety sandals 😂😂
It’s the “Dom and John Show” said in a musical way 😄.
Maybe crack on with the lower rear quarters. Once done you’re bound to feel better as things are moving on.
So many intricate shapes, inspiring to watch great craftsmanship at work. Looking forward to the next video…. 👍🏻
You guys are totally around the bend…😃👍🏼👍🏼…beautiful so far!
Trust Jon gets better soon and does make the bike ride. My moto was to get all the worst jobs out of the way first then enjoy the rest. I think once you have finished you should do a hour or more long montage of all the work done so you can see it from start to fiinish in one go. Just keep them coming Dom.
Doing this pedal car series is great and the Rannalh being used to make the replacement parts shows what a great machine to have . As always good to see you and Jon working together and Wendy polished off the video well .
LOL, reminds me of that car advert where the Indian guy battered bits of metal sheet to form a Peugeot 206 😁😁😁
Me too! Also Father Ted's car-bodywork repair expertise.
Love your work and can not wait for next weeks video. Keep it up both of you. Thank you to you all for the amazing content you put out.
Does anyone else want to see John's bike helmet? He reminds me of the cat in the hat already. 😊
Honestly Dom, I’m cool with whatever you choose !
Cheers From California 😎
Love watching you two working together so funny thanks Dom and John.
Interesting episode guys, well done. Think you definitely now need to finish the rear end, will give you a significant mile stone to have passed!
Feel better Jon. Nice seeing you. Also nice to see Wendy. Keep on going. Have a great week ahead 💗😊
1/2 a or a full day to make one panel, that doesn't matter if the final result work's 👍 I'm loving the fact that you're trying to keep as much original metal as you can but it will be well worth it 👍 I'd personally love to have ago at something like this
Love it. You guys are a weekly highlight for me. Thank you.
I don't know if it helps but when I did a panel shaping course the course leader told us of a method using fibreglass reinforced tape to create a reference of a good body panel. The reference could then be reversed to serve as the reference for the panel being shaped. Briefly, the panel would be cleaned, and the area to be referenced dusted with talc. The reinforced tape would be layered onto the panel several times, carefully removed, and the glue powdered with talc. The tape reference could be put over the panel being formed and where in didn't fit properly against the new panel, where there was an air gap between the two, needed more wheeling. It was pretty effective at creating mirror panels.
Hi Dom' . Well if at first you don't succeed .......3rd time lucky ! Dom' , l've been fabricating for nigh on 54 years and believe me l still get it wrong ! That panel in front of the boot lid is commonly known as the tonneau panel . I'd make that lower rear wing in 2 sections . Put a lip on one section and then tig the 2 together . Get better soon Jon !
Face your fears. Master the compound curves and get the rear end sewn up .
As always Dom and John, great job and very entertaining.
Brilliant thank you for creating and sharing for me let’s go for the rear quarter 😂😂
Another great video Dom and john, id still be scratching my head trying to figure out how to use the wheeling machine. Hope John feels better soon. Keep up the good work!
Awesome video Dom, try and stay on the rear corner guys. Keep testing your skills you may even surprise yourself your both incredibly talented Keep up the amazing team work maybe Geoff can offer advice to help 👍 ❤
You need to buy a bunch of flat neodymium magnets and some templating paper . So much better than tape and tissue for getting around curvatures.
Top work again gents love this series makes me want to restore my one 😂
Go for it lads! :) Look forward to seeing how you get on. Get well soon Jon. Wendy, thanks for looking after your boys.
Amazing patience again but well worth it
excellent job guys.. Yes think you should complete the rear quaters and hone your skills as I think the front is going to be more complicated. well done
Robb Torremolinos Spain
Goldilocks and the 3 panels? You mean Dereadlocks and the 3 panels? 😂
Well done, lads! It looks as though it will drive again!
Get well soon Jon!
Great stuff from both again this week. I really appreciate that you are honest enough to admit that mistakes are made but they areinevitable steps on the way to success. Thanks again Dom & John, really entertained me again.
"Looks like a Lambretta!"
John
Thanks again for the wonderful fix of Sunday therapy. This really is an education and makes absorbing viewing. I now see where we are leading; ie start on the pedal car, hone one's skills on the Ranalah and then back onto the Porsche!
Love the journey and all of it’s winding side roads… best to Jon too👍👍👍
I only watch for the banter 😂😂😂
Good doggo.
Keep mucking in what ever part u make is OK by me 👍
“might come back smoking “😂
Birkenstocks and socks is a very hard look to pull off and I'm not sure, Don, if you managed it ! They are very Health & Saftey !
Definitely the rear arch next.
That music. Attack of the 80's
I love how upbeat you are Dom - great work
Do what you want Dom. Your both making a brilliant job
Outstanding metalwork 👍
love it but think you should paint your Rannalar, I know you will say I like the patterner, but would look wicked with a paint job.
Liking the new music, a bit more uplifting than the old score.
If you do the rear corner don’t try and do it as one piece - have a join where that crease is - that way you can have two curves that aren’t fighting against each other. I’ve messed up too many bits of bodywork through trying to create multiple curves in one piece and realised after a while that the curves are fighting against each other. I appreciate the original was probably one piece but I’m guessing they will have stamped it out on a mold
Great job, let's see the rear arch.
I can only imagine just how difficult it is to create panels requiring precise shape and fitment. Obviously you are developing and refining skills that will be vital when you return to the Porsche project.
Would like to see you doing the Porsche Dom but always enjoy your videos anyway. 😂
Great video. Well done to both of you on the work done.
Goldilocks and the three panels!! 😂 Great banter and an interesting video as you showed viewers key parts of your journey to finished patch panels. Keep on at the rear corner guys and keep these videos coming. 😊❤
Great work, when are you jumping back to the 356? Can't wait to see Ep20!
Starting to look really good now, nice work gents 👍🏻
Thank you!
The government should be rolling out apprenticeships in this craft and others and no national services to stop them dieing
Hi Dom , I live in Reading and when I was a kid my mum and I used to go in to town and opposite the bus station was an Austin dealer who had two of thouse cars out side, my mum used to ask them if I could sit in the car and they let me , always the red one ! Great memories 👌 , can't wait to see yours finnished .
Best regards Frank
When I first started watching the pedal car restore, I thought here we go, this is going to be boring🎉, but couldn’t be further from the truth, (being size doesn’t really matter doesn’t it!), your skills are showing
Poor john, you sound like Terry Wogan!😁
My Father was a sheet metal worker ( made gun turrets for Lancaster bombers during the war ) and one one occasion he remade the bottom of our car door ( which was rusted ) out of an old fridge he shaped the metal using a hammer ! pretty amazing to see Dom using the same skills .
Nash & Thompson?
Yeah get the back end finished,ya know it makes sense😉
Like Doms summer safety saddles and socks… just the thing for the workshop haha😅
Things are really coming together now. It’ll soon be complete.
Well done Dom keep it up!!! It’s looking better and better all the time!!
Definitely the rear corners next.
Brilliant job, both of you. Well done, a fascinating journey.
looking great 👍
Amazing work.
Great job again guys
Nice one Dom, this was a lot of fun this week.
Another great video you guys.
Go with which area you fancy next Dom,it’s coming along nicely. Thanks for the video.👍👍
good job guy's
Great vid well done panel work… 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I'd like to see the Porshe
Good progress Dom.
Well done, very good. Finish off the rear end ❤😊
Yes, go for the rear corner next and then the rear end is done. Plus it will interesting to see you tackle this one. Best wishes.
Finish the rear quarter. Great video again 👍
Excellent job so far I think you should continue with the back panels at least that would finish the rear of the car
Great job. I would say carry on with the rear end.
Seeing those two panels side by side made me think of the old bicycles for kids in the 50s ? Schwinn ??
Hi Dom & John 😅, Yes stick with the back corner 😁, coming along fine 👍, (can I have the first go😅, )
Another educational and entertaining video. Are you sure John has a bad back. He doesn’t look it. Maybe he’s just putting on a brave face ?
BTW: Has anybody ever seen his hair ? 🤔
Epic craft-personship (lol got to be PC). Well done lads always ,fun on Sunday. What is the latest on the Micro Ranalah production? Thanks mate
Finish the rear, Dom!
Well done to you all 👍even Wendy .if it was down to me it would end up as a soap box car
I've been looking forward to this all week. The J40 is going to look superb when it's done. Have you got a driver lined up for the Goodwood Revival ? If not, how about a fund raising auction ? Best wishes.
Great use of tools like the English wheel to make panels. Especially when you can't buy them. But where does the description start and end for something original, when 80% of it is new?
Keep making panels, I'm learning so much.
Dom makes them
Keep it up. Looks like an awkward restoration but its coming along nicely.
That Porsche is really small!😆
Absolutely finish off the rear panels first Dom!
Rear corner
5:30 I always wondered what the odd looking wooden mallet was for which I found somewhere.
