Ah yes, the "whatever", everyone's favourite part.
It’s funny how everyone starts the game with, “Kratos needs to stop being so hard on Atreus.”, then they get to this portion and start saying, “I want to smack this kid.” Kratos may not have been the perfect father to his son, but he never resorted to striking him. Which I doubt he got that sort of patience growing up in Sparta.
as he says later, "I had hoped to spare you from it" somethin along those lines regarding a Spartan upbringing
@@carl_consumer.of.reality That line was related to Kratos wanting to spare Atreus from the suffering of a god. In the sequel, he makes more mentions of how Spartans are raised, but I’d be hesitant mentioning any details of that here. Could be spoilers if anyone reads these comments.

I have a small theory. Atreus was getting A LITTLE full of himself when he found out he was a god.
HOWEVER. His attitude only started getting out of hand after Kratos let him drink 1,000 year old fermented wine.
So my theory is that Kratos accidently got Atreus absolutely RIPPED on thousand year old wine and Atreus was basically drunk with power lol
That actually makes sense with atreus saying "that wasn't me" later.
This is not a theory. This is a fact lol. Well said! Such a small detail most people overlook. This is why this game is God of War tier.

Destroying the gate may seem stupid and meathead-like at first glance, but Kratos rarely acts without reason. He was an esteemed war general after all, he is very strategic in his actions. He knew that while Baldur was there, the gate being open would compromise not only their mission (Baldur would follow them and/or a spy raven of Odin's could have slipped through), but also the safety of the giants. As far as we know at this point, the giants are hiding there and it is basically the only place the Aesir have no access to.
If you notice, Kratos was willing to let Atreus cross the bridge on his own and destroy the bridge after, locking him safe in Jotunheim and finding a secondary way after (it's Kratos, he will always find a way somehow).
While I can agree with your overall assessment of Kratos' goal I have to counter against attributing it to his experience as a war general. we have a trilogy of games that all take place after his time as a Spartan General to show how little that affected his judgement in combat, at least concerning collateral damage of people and things.

1:07:59 These are the consequences of Kratos continuing to hold in that secret for so long. He didn’t know any other way to prevent his son from walking down the same path he did so he decided to just not tell him, not deal with the problem.
And now that he has, it’s all starting to come out and Kratos hasn’t been saying much of anything about that because he doesn’t know what to say. Also taking into account that Kratos still isn’t telling the entire truth.

Each Valkyrie is different. They all have a similar style, but have a different move they will do. Learning the tell tale signs is key in beating each Valkyrie. Geirdiful’s thing is the blinding attack. In order to avoid that. You have to look away from her. Quick turn and once she does it be ready to dodge because she’ll come in immediately for an attack. Most attacks can simply be blocked. Yellow attacks obviously have to be parried or dodged, but it’s best to try and parry them because it’ll open them up for follow up attacks. It’s a balance between offense and defense. Take your time. Hit them a few times and back off and get ready to defend. Attack only when open. They will give you an opening to strike, but after a few hits even your runic attacks won’t stun them.
Their red attacks use a precise timing. Some of them will track you if you are too early.
When they use their wing charge. Roll to the opposite side away from it. Example: if they charge you with their right wing attacking your left side. Roll to the right to avoid it. If you roll to the left or backwards they will still hit you. You can avoid it sometimes rolling to the left, but the timing is more precise. It’s much easier and you will avoid it every time rolling away from it to the right.
Good luck with your future Valkyrie fights. They’re the most fun and challenging in this game. Just go into each fight expecting to lose a few times. Learn their patterns and signs, and you will breeze through them.
Edit: I also believe throwing your axe while they’re mid air will interrupt her blinding. I’m not sure if it’s her exactly, but there is another one that will if it’s not. Be on the look out, and good luck!

Shes on deployment. So she won’t be recording any new content. The content you are seeing is pre recorded and set for a release schedule. Don’t expect Ragnarok until the end of the year, or possibly early next year. Depending on what she decides to do.

I just LOVE how they made Atreus so freakin annoying in this part of the game. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!
SPOILERS for the quest where son backstabs dad. To your comment about “how you can ever bstab your dad in the back.” If you read the scroll they found at the end of that quest. You’d see that the son saw his father kill his grandfather who primarily raised him and who he loved dearly. The son vowed then to kill his father in the name of his grand father whom he saw as his primary care taker.

Unfortunately Ragnarok won’t be for awhile. These videos you are seeing are made before her deployment. She’ll be away for at least half the year. So don’t expect Ragnarok until the end of this year or next year.

Let's us know that Atreus is wiser than he looks, when he's not being overwhelmed by newfound godhood. The subtle emotional hints of body language in this game is phenomenal.

It’s probably by far one of the best retrospectives (video essay) of this story. It will give you a much deeper appreciation of this story. The video was actually liked by the game director Cory Barlog. That’s how good it is. If there was a way for you to record your reaction to it. I would appreciate seeing it. Even if it was a watch along style video. I understand editing may not be accessible to you lol, and I wouldn’t recommend watching another’s video without their consent to do so and posting their video along with yours. A watch along is a good way to go about it. You watch it and anyone who watches yours will also be watching the original video. It’s a win win for both creators.

Watching you play this game and the way you handle enemies... I'm fairly certain you'd be able to handle Elden Ring. I know you mentioned it a couple of times here and there, and although that game isn't very heavy on cinematics or even a story (the lore is revealed mostly through environment and conversations), it's still an amazing game, so I hope you'll play it some day.

Dying and trying is part of the game it’s all about perseverance and learning the attack patterns of the bosses that’s what makes finally beating them so awarding and your gonna definitely need that if you ever wanna play eldin ring lol

Obviously my own personal opinion but I am not of fan of Atreus as a character overall. At first I was cool with having him as the secondary character tagging along but to this day I can’t stand him
You have to face the valkerys in "give me god of war". It's insane and pretty cool. Very challenging.
During Atreus emo phase he sometimes refuses to follow arrow commands and attacks enemies randomly
the reason atreus got like that so quickly is because its in a gods nature to be like that, its always said that gods are naturally terrible and is probably the reason mimir says good gods are rare and why kratos never expects a god to be a good person

Honestly, I'm surprised that having a knife buried in his shoulder didn't affect him more than a quick "ah!" I guess he really is a god.
FYI: double-tap shield for a quick shield swipe that will break other shield users' blocks. Works much better than just pinging uselessly off their shields until they make a move that opens them up. Although I guess that works too.

With Valkaries you have to disrupt some red attacks with either Atreus arrows or the axe if they are not dodgeable.
Also, use shield more.
The valkyrie fights are the games way of testing how well you have listened to Kratos' lessons. The only way to win is through control, discipline, knowing your opponent, knowing your limits, and always prioritizing your own survival above everything else.
the Valkyrie battles were a high point for me in this game. Some were frustrating, but the pay-off after all of them, was very cool IMO.
The fact that Atreus thought Kratos stayed distant from him because he was different, when in reality it's because of how similar he is to Kratos in his younger years.
Eralia i just want to say i'm at possibly the lowest point in my entire life right now and your videos really help brighten the mood. Thank you

trust in your block, its stronger than it looks.
Eralia’s refusal to use the shield to block attacks is vexing af
Also the insistence on using that spinning runic attack despite the fact that it doesn’t reach the target 90% of the time is truly confusing.
