Exactly. It’s actually a popular tattoo placement for people who used to cut so that every time they think about it they read “stay strong” and it’ll discourage them.
Is it just me but some of them seem awfully petty about the tattoos. "All this money and this is what you do with it" isn't appropriate when it's done when she was 16, and saying Lady Gaga deserved a wrong tattoo just because she didn't like her new song is... I am so SICK of tattoo artists telling people that facing yourself is the wrong way with a tattoo. I regret getting the tattoos i did the "right way". My tattoos are for me, not for other people.
Well to be fair...if you want a lady head it should face inward...but if you want a script tattoo on your wrists or on your arm like you wrote it yourself, I think it's ok
Fancy681 THANK YOU! Same! My first tattoo was a little heart on my wrist I wanted facing me. The tattoo artist made me feel like an idiot and talked me into his way. Facing out. I hated it and ended up getting it covered up with bigger hearts facing ME!
I have a sun and a moon on each wrist respectively, and they face me. Although you wouldn’t be able to tell if it weren’t for the hanging portions of it (they’re symbolic of my practice of Wicca, so like the moon has dangling moonstones and the sun has like “solar flares” I guess you could say). I was glad that my artist didn’t pester me about what way they faced, and I agree that it should be the person getting its choice. Especially since if you’re seriously getting a tattoo for other people, I question why you’re getting one at all.
Odi it’s not a popular opinion it’s literally the rule. Placement rule is that t fits the area well, legibility from area, and that it’s facing others and up. Yes there are exceptions to this rule like some of them said. But it’s not just a popular opinion. Truly it’s going on your body at the end of the day but these people are trained to give you the best tattoo possible. So if they give their input it’s not them being “snobbish” they are professionals.
@@sophiastewart404 It is fucking arrogant bullshit to default to this 'rule' (which was made up at some point just like anything else) when if you actually gave it a moment's forethought, being able to read it yourself is obviously going to be the best idea for this kind of tattoo that acts as a self-reminder.

I appreciate the artists that respected the purpose of Demi Lovato's tattoo. Knowing the history of the artist and also understanding that not all tattoos are meant to be read by everyone you walk past like a t-shirt. @@Aconitum_napellus How is it relevant in this conversation ? Rihanna come from a country where English were imposed upon "non white peoples", not French. It' still a white chick, complaining on white peoples, while a black girl did the mistake.
Gaga's tattoo still reads Gaga 🤦🏼♀️ she added the bar above the notes therefore not shifting them. If she added it below then yes it would be been different.
Demi Lovato has a history of self harm so I imagine the tattoo is there so she can read it for herself when she is in a tough place mentally. I wouldn't view hers as a mistake. Think it's pretty clear it's how she wants it

Sarah Jeannina it’s two nouns, so it should not matter which comes first. Although the French are super protective of their language, and might shoot me down with some obscure 16th century rule. @Jess V Actually, when she holds her arms up it reads as “Strong Stay” because of the way she has it written. i’m not judging her for it, just an observation.
Isabella Firsching it would be cool if she had her arms in an x shape when she raised her arms so the stay would be first then the strong... wait would that work?
The judgement is heavy. A fucked up tattoo is one thing but a personalized tat is another completely and these examples fell in both categories with these professionals judging both as if they have the same context
I wouldn’t necessarily say Demi Lovato’s is “the wrong way”. Yes, it’s not technically correct, but it’s for her so she probably wants it on her wrist like that so she can read the message.
And even then, I don't believe you can be technically correct or incorrect, Tattooing is art there are no rules in art and especially in something as personal as tattoos. You should be able to get whatever the fuck you want without there being a bitch telling you it's facing the wrong way. I swear they are so annoying yet they have trash tattooed all over them
For the Demi one, she has it upside down because it's supposed to be a reminder to her. She struggled with self harm, which was personal, and the tattoo is personal
The wrist rule seems unnecessary. I have one on each wrist facing me. They are for me and no artist has said anything about it. So...is it a rule or more of a guideline?
The artists I know usually apply the 'rule' to people who are planning on getting more tattoos. A lot of people with wrist tattoos aren't usually looking to get a sleeve, but if you are it makes sense to have all your tattoos facing the same way, otherwise it will just look a bit off.
Misspelling: "That's on the client, I am the artist, I don't need to check." Upside down Tattoo the client requested: "I wOuLdNt Do iT, It'S jUst WrOnG!"
Alot of them said if it's something sentimental to you and you want to read it all the time they get wanting it facing the person themselves and they dont care so what's your point?
I have never understood the idea that a tattoo on your wrist could be “upside down” your arms move, the angles change, it’s not that big of a deal? Plus if you’re the one who has to see it everyday wouldn’t you rather get to see it right side up? People with asymmetrical wedding rings (pears, hearts) don’t typically wear them to be right side up “for an audience” it’s right side up for the wearer?
For that Demi Lavato one, the tattoo artists who diliked it, I have to ask: why would you get a tatto if not for yourself. Was the phrase "stay strong" really meant to be read by other people?
Also, They were talking about how Lady Gaga's tattoo is ruined after fixing it because it changes the notes... But it doesn't? It was just unfinished I guess, since the notes are still GAGA (Personally I think it'd be cute if she added the Treble clef in front of the staff, because I play an instrument that uses the bass clef.. so I instantly saw the notes as BCBC)
Not true!! in Latin is Virgo (Believe me I’m going to Latin mass) in English is Virgin and in Spanish Virgen... but for astrological references is always Virgo
Lisa Serene i feel like everyone’s commenting on that tattoo forgets that it is supposed to be VIRGO. Smth like that doesn’t change nor it should be compared to whore cause it wasn’t meant as anything sexual. Just the zodiac sign...

About the upside down tattoos on the inner forearms: It really should be for the person wearing the tattoo. If it’s sentimental, as a couple of you said, let them wear it towards them. I have two tattoos like this, and I got them only for myself. No one else. All of my tattoos are for me, but especially those.
I just think the artists who thinks Demi's tattoos are mistakes are dumb it's clearly meant to be read by her. Think about how she say when getting it done. They 100% knew what they were doing. I'm sure
Also tattoos are subjective. I've seen people tattoo things backwards so that when they see in a mirror it's a reminder. Your missing the point of art on some of these.
The upside down stay strong tattoo actually makes complete sense to me. A lot of people get that kind of tattoo if they used to self harm. It can be a reminder, and a way of stopping yourself doing it again, so for that reason they want it facing themselves, because it's for them to read, not someone else.

They’re just saying which way flows better with the body. A bunch of them acknowledged that the tattoo was probably for herself which was fine. Everyone in the comments are so triggered at these artists giving their opinions. Which they were asked to do.
For Ariana Grande's tattoo, it depends on what language you're translating from. In Japanese, it definitely refers to a type of grill, but in Chinese it could possibly be translated (grammatically incorrectly but...) seven rings. That's really unlucky for her, but I'm sure she tried!
I saw a tattoo translation video where the guy went to a studio in viet nam and asked for a tattoo that said 'asian women are beautiful' and they gave him 'white pervert'.
The one on the left seemed nice, she even corrected the one on the right when she gave the white people comment. That’s the one who seemed I be a bitch.
i think you cant really dunk on wrist tatts being "upside down" because it depends on personal prefrence and how you show your tattoos off. personally, holding my wrists out in front of me side by side feels awkward, but holding my hand up next to my chest/ head to show my wrist is more natural and gives you more opportunities to casually show it off.
Some tattoos face ourselves as a personal reminder, it would drive me crazy if my wrist tattoo was upside down so only other ppl could see it properly. It was for me.
Little Jenn Tattoos are personal so I would have assumed there wouldn’t be such a stigma on how tattoos are placed. If my tattoo was facing others, it would make it seem like I’m their mom telling them to “suck it up” lol Altho I do point at it when someone around me (friends/family) are being whiny lol
Shana Lawson - “Readability,” is a big thing in the industry. And, as artists, that makes sense. You want others to be able to see your work, as you intended. But on the other hand, you’re right. Some tattoos are really personal, and someone shouldn’t be judged, simply because they want to be reminded of something. Also; I need a tattoo like that. That would really come in handy. 🤣
The artists that talked about Demi’s being a sentiment to herself, and that it’s totally fine, are artists I’d want to get tattooed by. Because they actually respect her choice. Which means they respect their clients’ choices, as well. THAT’S a tattoo artist. Not the pretentious and judgmental jerks saying what’s the “right way”. Smh.

I mean, both artist and demi must have known very well its facing her, because the artist probably had to do it upside down. It really is up to the person. Also the message itself is obviously personal too.

@kimikoifish7 You clearly don’t know anything about tattooing. I am so SICK of tattoo artists telling people that facing yourself is the wrong way with a tattoo. I regret getting the tattoos i did the "right way". My tattoos are for me, not for other people.
To be fair they've probably all had to deal with people bitching at them for not doing it so others could read it.
I got my tattoo on my wrist also upside down. It's important for me not for anyone Else.
Demi's tattoos are literally over the top of self-harm scars, they are for her. Complaining about them being 'upside down' is just snobbish.
They don't know that. Their the ones in the tattoo industry. When you get a tattoo it's facing out. That's what they were saying.

Sometimes it's just artists being knit picky because they don't like it. I find it dumb too, like let peoole have tattoos facing wherever they want.

Smh.
"Can we play that game white people?" - Except it's just as big a problem for non-white people to get those tattoos
Japanese and Chinese folk have the same draw to tattoos in English. It's mysterious and cool, to them.
Trying to get her "white people = bad, except for me" woke points lol
@@5050TM Shit is so old and annoying lol
you do realize most chinese/japanese people also know english bc they learn it intently in schools, along with like 3 other languages?
@@nicoleedwards5708 No, they don't. I've personal experience with Chinese, Japanese, and Korean folk that I've lived and worked with for years, among many others: Thai, Filipino, Cambodian, etc...
They are not taught 4 other languages, outside certain elective classes maybe, and their english is usually about as proficient as my German was in high school.
That is to say: They learned enough to pass the class.
I've also both seen personally, and had confirmed by multiple sources that yes, it is a phenomenon that actually exists in many Asian countries (Japan and China among them) to get foreign words tattooed on their bodies.
@@nicoleedwards5708 From my experience of living in China for a year, most Chinese people do not speak English very well.
Even in my job there in an international logistics company in Shanghai some colleagues struggled with English ...
I love how triggered the girl got when she said "can we play that game white people"

It's literally missing a line.
Maybe just... add the line?
🤔🤷
But that changes what the notes are completely which changes the whole meaning
@@emilytowns6403 luckily, it didn't change the meaning of this tattoo. It still says 'gaga', they just missed the top line.
Emily Towns no it depends which side you add it to. If you add the line to the top it says G A G A but if you add it to the bottom then it becomes B C B C. All she has to do is add the line to the top
@@emilytowns6403 actually it doesn't, if you look at the reference picture the notes would be placed in the same spot if she just adds the line to the top rather than the bottom
I was looking for this comment. 😆 Thank you. Now i can sleep in peace knowing im not the only one who noticed. ❤️
When you have tattoo artist saying up side down tattoos shouldn't be a thing and then you have Paul Booth and many others saying it can be up side down at least on wrists
(or max to the forearm) you need to understand that there is no right answer...
I have a wrist tattoo facing me to exacly remind me of a message I've wrote there and what is the problem on that? Just like many of them say, it depends on the preference.
And tastes are not discussed...
obviously people can do as they want and ofcourse tattoos are for that person so if thats what they want thats fine, but those people als shouldn't be surprised if people think their idea looks dumb
I mean, both artist and demi must have known very well its facing her, because the artist probably had to do it upside down. It really is up to the person. Also the message itself is obviously personal too.
My wrist tattoo is facing me and that’s how I wanted it. Am I wrong for that? No..
@@kristenhenderson4857 never said you were wrong just said people will think it looks dumb and you shouldn't be surprised by that
@@OxSilentShot93 judging by the comments people dont give an f to be honest
Some of these artists were chill and there were some racist and sexist ones in there
Who was racist?
@ 1) thats not my name 2) thats just my opinion if it bothers u just scroll past
Philip Gallagher the one who tried to say only white people get tattoos of different languages...when Rihanna, as evidence was right there.
Light Show yup, there’s 2 people with tattoos in other languages misspelled in this video and neither are white
@@ejbarbs7873 arianna grande is white tho? she just has a pretty egregious fake tan
Why do they seem so just above when they see people who got a messed up tattoo? “That’s what she gets” it’s a bar line
Wow for a group of Artists these people are so judgmental
Very true
Vogue Daddy that’s the whole point
Are you ignoring the entire fact that this is a video exactly based off of their reactions to these failed tattoos? This video was made for the sole purpose of their opinions on them, they aren't being judgemental, judging is just what they were asked to do.
what does being an artist has to do with being judgemental or not?
I like how that one artist said “rules” ... like there are rules to art. Obnoxious
@kimikoifish7 You clearly don’t know anything about tattooing. There are ‘rules’ and ‘principles’ tattooing that you learn that make the artwork look better or worse when it goes into someone’s body. you learn all of that when you go to school for this particular art form, that’s literally WHY you have to go to school for it. you’re pretentious for thinking you know more than literal professionals. foh.
kinda like how there are principles and elements of arts... proportion, scale, unity...
There are absolutely rules in art. You’re not allowed to break them unless you’re doing it intentionally. No one does a low contrast chiaroscuro because that would make it not chiaroscuro. Proportion is a rule. Your hand is the size of your face. No exceptions.
you clearly dont know what youre talking about
Artist has an opinion clients DECIDE whatever the hell they want!!!
The tattoo artists that said that Demi Lovato’s tattoo was wack because it broke the holly rules are D*cks... She didn’t get it to show people, she got it to remind *herself* to stay strong because of *her past* . And if you can’t understand the powerful meaning behind her tattoo maybe you should find a new job, because understanding the meaning behind the art piece you’re making is in the end what makes it a good tattoo.
And no, i’m not a fan of her but i do have the brain capacity to realize the meaning behind the tattoo
Darth Plagueis EXACTLY!! Well said! Some of these artists are morons.

These people did not Critique her tattoo, they made fun of it.
wasn’t talking about the people giving criticism and then acknowledging the meaning behind her tattoo, funny how you read my comment and even took a quote out but you *still* didn’t realize that.
You made a response talking about the people that understood the meaning behind her tattoo which are the people my comment wasn’t even about...... good job dude, you want a gold star for that?
EDIT: Chris called me sensitive but he couldn’t keep what he said so he deleted his comments, oki
I absolutely despise the woman because I hate modern pop music. But yeah, her tattoo, for herself. Most of these guys are being absolute dicks about it
same i got a tattoo of the car my grandad escaped being prisoner of war in on my wrist, that doesnt mean shit to anyone else so why would i get it the other way. id be sad looking at my wrist and seeing an upside down car. and its awkward to show someone a wrist tattoo the way the tattoo artists say is right anyway i have to awkwardly poke ur arm out but u cant raise it so they have to look down and pull at you to see it. i prefer just raising ny wrist and showing them. works both ways better
You guys are a bunch of snowflakes
I have the feeling that half of these people dont understand that u can also get tattoos for yourself and only for the meaning and not the estetics.
Like WTF do I care if the text is to long so nobody reads it? Or that the text is upside down so only you can read it? (like some of them say)
Also Lady Gaga could have easily corrected her tattoo if she wanted to by adding a line above, but she didnt so i guess its like she wants it to be.
