Railroad Switching Lumber Spur In Peebles, Ohio! Horn Salute, Heavy Mixed Freight, Soybean Harvest

- Switching The Railroad Spur For McCoy Lumber In Peebles, Ohio. Short Line Railroad Action On Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET. This is a heavy train that ran to the end of the line for gravel, lumber and grain. Storage cars were also moved. Look how long this train is! Includes and awesome train horn salute from a Top And Tail train. ( Locomotives were on both ends of the train )
We also see more of the 2023 soybean harvest. This is my neighbours farm. Our farm has corn and beans but they have not been harvested yet.
I got to Peebles, Ohio at Mile Post 72 just as the eastbound train was arriving to switch the McCoy Lumber siding. The Cincinnati Eastern Railroad leases 69+ route miles from Norfolk Southern Railroad and their lease runs a little bit past Mile Post 78. The rock cars in this video are loaded on the mainline about a quarter mile past Mile Post 74. The remainder of the track is for car storage.
We see the train with a locomotive on both ends as it arrives eastbound at Peebles. The engineer gets out of the leading locomotive and operates the rear locomotive to work the siding. Only 4 axle units are permitted on the siding. The conductor does not ride the train. He drives a car along the line to get the switches, derails, gates and couples and uncouples the cars. Three loads were picked up and six empties were spotted.
After the switching was completed the train continued on east to pick up 15 empty flat cars that were in storage. The GP15-1 on the rear is shoving the train across Main Street while the SD40-2 is coasting along for the ride with its horn sounding for the crossing.
Then we see the train returning westbound with both locomotives tied together on the front and pulling 34 cars! This was a heavy train. The 6 grain cars came from Winchester Ag and were picked up the day before. The train had spent the night at Mt Zion before it got to Peebles.
This is Part 1 of 2. In Part 2 we will see the train continue westbound and have to double Lawshe Hill. The hill is so steep and curvy that the rock cars were taken to Mt Zion first and then the locomotives came back for the rest of the train. Part 2 will be epic son! We will see it filmed in areas that are not seen on camera very often. We will see it pass through a very remote area of Ohio so don't miss it.
Filmed Friday, October 27, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

Always enjoy seeing videos around southern Ohio. Graduated high school 1958, Portsmouth West Hi, attended International Plowing Contest outside Peebles spring of '58. Dad was brakeman on B & O out of Chillicothe, fatal accident took him April 1952. Thanks for posting all the train action.
Wow, sorry to hear that about your dad. I remember the B&O line to Chillicothe. I rode the 611 steam train to Chillicothe in 1978 and rode Amtrak across the line in 79. Lived right next to the tracks outside of Loveland in the mid 80s. Anyway, thanks for watching my videos and commenting!
I can certainly understand some of the train crews not wanting to be filmed, but I do love watching switching. Really appreciate you braving the rain for our enjoyment. You always show us the best stuff! Thank you.
Thanks for watching
Love watching the harvest. Still plenty of corn to be harvested around Pickerington.
Yes, here too. They haven't started on ours yet
Glad they have business from the lumber supply company.
Enjoyed watching the video. I really like small towns

I enjoy fast freights and Amtrak trains, but I also really enjoy industrial switching too. Authentic railroading.

Did you know small towns and trains go together. There is something about watching trains on a rainy day in a small town.
Very nice video JT! Thanks 👍 for sharing. 😊😊😊❤❤❤
Thanks for watching
Thank u Brian Great video. Love the EMD locomotives.
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video, love those old buildings
Glad you enjoyed
That first building you zoomed in on looked like it may have said Bayesblock 1917. Learning quite a lot from your videos, JT. Thanks.
Cool, thanks
More great action and a tour of the town. Can't beat that, thanks JT!
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice southern gondola and batteries going out happens to all of us once in a while!
I always keep at least two radios with me and I keep a radio charger in the truck. I was kicking myself for being so far away from the truck and not checking the battery strength. The radios are a must have for me. This railroad uses an EOT only on the rock trains and those are the heaviest trains. These trains are very difficult to locate due to the remoteness of the east end with very few road access points so I use the radio to locate the train on the EOT frequency
Great short line video from Peeples, OH. Loved the commentary. Thank you.
@curtisdavis5556 you know it, in Portugal we have diesel-electric locomotives, you should see.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for filming the CE Jaw Tooth
I will have more soon
Congratulations 🎉 on reaching 300k subscribers!! Thanks for all your videos.

Enjoyed that you showed the buildings/history of the town and hats off to you for how you always show respect in not videoing people without permission. mornin' tooth !!! excellent as usual !! could not help but notice how upset you were about the dead battery to your scanner. i know you probably have a charging system in your car thru the lighter, but here is a beautiful item that is really a game changer for folks like us that travel a ton... its a battery charging system by a company called FRABILL that makes a bunch of nice ice fishing gear/clothes. huts/etc/etc... its called a POW'R SOURCE and is smaller than an old fashioned lunch bucket grandpa used for years, very light, too. it has 1 amp and 2.1 amp usb ports, binding posts for alligator clips ( red and black, really nice !!) a 12 volt dc outlet that accepts the plug you would push into the lighter of your truck, built in strong flashlight ( both white and yellow lenses of "equal in quality" to the pelican company, which makes intrinsically safe flashlights for our first responders in service to the community), and a really nice lithium battery w/ charging cord. i have used mine out on lake erie while walleye fishing near the canadian border over 18 miles out ( i live close to lake erie in western ny state) and its taken on all road trips "just in case"... i understand there are other options for battery back-up/charging systems, but this baby is rock solid... you might want to check it out !!! all just fyi, my friend !!! as usual, blessings to you !!!
Yes I checked into it. I want one 😊
great, tooth !!! they are not like the bigger and more expensive patriot product, but i can tell you that they are of very good quality and frabill stands behind all their products... glad to have helped !!!@@JawTooth
That little lot in Peebles where the clock is used to be a street. The brick building by the clock used to sit on the corner with nothing but a narrow sidewalk between it and the street. That street is/was Vine Street. On the other side of it from brick building was just a parking lot, I believe.
What they have done is moved Vine St. over to line up with Elm St. and made a little park there. Google Earth tells me the two streets still have their old names. Vine comes down by the clock then across the street it is now Elm St. I think that's pretty cool. "On the corner of Main, Vine, and Elm." That was a cool tour.
JT, have we ever seen a Cincinnati Eastern train that heavy before? I don't remember it.
Thanks for the information 😊. This is one of the heaviest. I have seen longer ones though
Thanks for the local history. I find it interesting to learn about the changes that are made over time.
The conductor "perched" in the CCET SD40 deserves an award for his awesome P3 horn display...replayed that segment beginning @7:04 many times!!! Geep 1657 -- shovin' the whole affair -- was perfect, "pounding the ground" 💓EMD-style !! 👍👍
Thanks for watching!

Good morning jaw tooth
Good morning!
Bayes Block building was built by John Bayes a blacksmith in1917
Who is more beautiful
is it a steam train
Or a diesel train
Those two are having fum
In a time when many other short lines are in danger of shutting down it appears that CCET's management has both been lucky and smart. Lucky in being able to keep so many long term customers and smart in being able to market the road to attract new customers.
It also appears that they are engaged a program of track maintenance that so many others let slide until it bites them in the ... 😁. Preventive maintenance is often a matter of "pay me now" like routine maintenance on your car or "pay me MUCH MORE later" when something breaks. I suspect that the derailment CCET had several months ago was from some problem in the track / roadbed that hadn't been caught, something that put several cars on the ground and was much more expensive to fix than replacing ties or broken joiners or even rail would have been.
Hey jaw tooth sorry about the rain. Hope you're having a great weekend. How many miles of track do trains run on ?: Have a great railroad day 🚂🙋♀️
CCET leases 69 route miles from Norfolk Southern. There are also some spurs and sidings
Jd woods farm has 8 of those for rice between brookshire and katy texas
Neat tour of Peebles. Brick buildings indicates previous local prosperity. And outstanding switching video. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Our pleasure!

JT, the video that you did is amazing, by watching these trains doing shunting and pass at the crossing, you are the best trainspotter that i ever saw, maybe next year im thinking about on travel to the USA and film the trains with you, what do you think, , keep up the great work, Have a nice Halloween.
Thank you very much! Give me a shout
@@JawTooth ok, i will.
@@JawTooth what do you mean 'give me a shout'.
I think my cellphone added something. That doesn’t make sense 😅
☺️👍👍👍👍👍👍
Love the video of the trains, Jaw Tooth, but the best part was all the railfans and our birthday Friend , tall One, Scott Gambit, oh, Yes right behind you, Jaw Tooth. Ya'll need to clip that section out and make a Portrait of Ohio Film Productions, straight from Southern Ohio. Jaw Tooth, ya'll could sell these Portraits for guessing about $20.00 a piece for Railfans Collections, So what do you think, then split the monies between Ya'll, Personally, I think that would be very good idea and money making for ya'll and us fans posting ya'll's pictures in our Railroad rooms or computer rooms.
Pretty cool idea and thanks for watching!
Glad you like it, Have a greet week, Jaw Tooth.@@JawTooth
poor chessie cant get a break
Soybean harvest is always so dusty
Thanks for the videos JT, My brother worked on the small electric railroad in Mason City Iowa years ago, fun to ride in the engines… Question in your travels do any of the RR run cabooses? I miss seeing them when I was a kid. Thanks
The video is amazing, by watching these trains doing shunting is great, you are the best trainspotter i ever saw, maybe next year im thinking about on travel to the USA and film the trains with you, what do you think, Have a nice Halloween.
It's interesting to watch how trains switch out cars. You did good and that clock is awesome. We have one in our city. I suggest that and cobblestone side walks to my mayor years ago. And Amber street lights. I like my town. 😊Nice live action. Really enjoyed it Mr JT.❤ Is this your corn that's being harvested Mr J T? Awesome. Your fur babies made me laugh. Theyre great playmates for each other.❤Thanks for another great video. 😊
@@beulahpowell1478 you know it, i subbed your channel, i have some cool videos of the trains, enjoy it.
Surprised that even after the train had been well clear of the crossing, those cars still waited until the signals went off before going. Maybe they saw you filming them and thought they had better stay within the law.
Probably 😅
Morning JT, great video as always. I caught a glimpse of a cement truck going by you at that first level crossing. That has to be the weirdest cement truck i have EVER seen. I absolutely love all these small towns you fond yourself in to video these trains. I also love that you try and give some history about them as well. The horn on horn had a weird sound/pattern coming from it like "ding ding, ding ding etc - engine #1657" It was similar to the bell on the CN engine that ive caught coming out of fog in the Stratford train yard out where I am. That was a lot of flat cars. They look like your standard flat cars. I wonder what was out on them and I wonder why there are always so many. Cheers from Ontario 🇨🇦🚂
Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
Morning JT: what rail weight are they running on out there, 90lb?
Great stuff! Thanks for sharing.
Also, it looks like that switch point derail is newly freshened up too. Very cool!
Not sure but about 126. The next video I post of CCET will show it up close
@@JawTooth Right on. Thank you! Stay safe...
Se houver possibilidade, filmar Cabooses. E comentar sua utilidade nas ferrovias. Um forte abraço. 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I live in Wooster, Ohio and never heard of Peebles, Ohio. Where is that at? And love the train whistles. Hey JT, is the bell a real one or electronic noise?
The bell is real. You can see it at 8:07 next to the fuel tank. Peebles is about an hour and half east of Cincinnati in Adams County.
I know if I was out filming the CCET I would have a McDonald’s Vanilla Ice coffee in one hand and the camera in the other. Just sayin.’
1657 sounds like it has a misfire.
So are all those soybeans shipped through Winchester Ag or is there another elevator in the area?
Have a good weekend Mr Jawtooth..Did you hear that Brightline has passenger trains running to Orlando international airport? See you later
😅cool but wet video,i have the water resistent gopro 6 black and the action cam with a water resistent house..😅
what do they do with all those flat cars, seems like you are always filming them being hauled around?
Some of them sounds like the brakes are dragging
Which has me wondering if CCET has any defect detectors on the line leased from CSX
Might be they are going down hill a bit at that location.
So, the rails aren't sturdy enough for a six-axle locomotive?
Correct. The same thing with the grain spur in Winchester
