Looks like a turbine shaft for hydroelectric assembly. Used to work for RG LeTourneau, he passed in the late sixties and was one of a handful of companies that had machine lathes that could work large pieces shafts like that. Excellent as always Jawtooth.
Johnstown Corp. produced these rolling mill rolls. It was a former US Steel foundry. Some of these large rolls weighed as much as 60 tons before machining.😊
@@mikemalo47 Not seeing under the strapping, To what is showing appears to be Rough Casting, looks like a Huge Field, For inside the Generators, May a replacement, going to Machining.
That appears to be the rotor/armature/rotating assembly from an electric motor/generator/alternator. Copper is more dense than steel so copper wound components are especially heavy. This car had a load limit of 488,000 pounds and 8 axles. A car (DODX 40000 SERIES) that can carry two M1A1 Abrams main battle tanks has a rating of just under 300,000 pounds and only 6 axles.
I think you're right. It's not a turbine. Those are too delicate to travel like that. They are in specialized containers. Rail Road Tie Spiker caught the same piece of equipment in Marion, OH here ua-cam.com/video/BQy1hiVZG5c/v-deo.html And just two cars in front of it is an oversize electrical transformer. So it looks like something going to a power plant.
I've noticed in your more recent videos that there is a lot of improved track with new rails and ballast. Are you seeing this also in general, or is it just routine for heavily used lines?
Hey Jaw Tooth, At the crossings of Crescent Springs, KY. all of those trains with the many cars on them and the graffiti as well but always like the areas of Kentucky and Ohio that you go to and watch the trains. Thanks for another great video of trains and the many crossings plus the nice scenery surrounding the tracks and the other interesting parts. Thank You Jaw Tooth. 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲💨
Looks like a proto-type WARP drive unit from the early Secret Space Program... probably being shipped to the not-so-secret but open for the public hypothetical Secret Space Program Museum... or... maybe a generator. Hard to tell with all the shipping wrapping. Gracias por tu video, Señor Jaws. RT sends, Puebla, MX...
I think I know what that thing was. They would turn it vertically and to me it looks like a core to a hydroelectric turbine core for a dam. See the brushes will ware and after awhile it won’t make contact to make electricity. But this is a guess. A large dam has several different turbines inside and in the dam there is a large overhead crane they use to service the turbines so having one down is not a problem. Steven Sipes
The company where I worked for almost 45 years cast and machined rolls like that. It's a backup roll that maintains pressure on the rolls in a mill fhat rolls out steel. I've turned many like that on a lathe.
Great video, Jaw Tooth. I hope that you are putting sun screen on yourself. You are getting a sunburn. Do you have a name for your puppy 🐶? It looks like that he is getting along with the other pets. I love the pedestrian bridge. Great locations today. I loved to hear those engines working on the hill, working hard. Maybe you should wear a hat or cap for your head. Take care.😊
Love love love the new puppies name! We’ve been waiting to hear it! 😍😍😍😍 He’s so precious! If you ever come to GSMR in NC (again) or ever please let us know! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
That big item looks like the same machinery that went through WWOT. People were saying it was turbine for power generators, same things posted on your channel. Have a good one, JT
Great Video JT! It was cool to see the LV heritage engine. My Grandfather was head of security for the LV Back in the 40's and until he retired in the early 50's.
Our guess is some kind of turbine. That is such a neat spot to video. They sure work hard coming up the hill. Your "foreign" power are both common where we live. Like the name Lokie for the new pup. He is so cute!
It looks like that was the rotor for an electric generator or a large electric motor. It is installed in the center of the stator and if it's a generator, when the motive force (steam or diesel for example) spins the rotor - we get electricity. If it's a motor, then when electricity is applied, it spins the rotor which turns a shaft to do work. It's a big one :)
That first train was working really hard. And I love that horn on the Northfolk Southern engine. My favorite. Nice pedestrian bridge. The city did a good job fixing it. Your puppy is so cute! Norfie seems to be tolerating him. Great video as always. Have a nice day 😊🌈🌞
Nice trains with foring power. The huge hi and wide load thing is a part of an generator. Steam- or gas turbines are packed and loaded differently. Siemens has such a plant here in Berlin that manufactures turbines for power plants. Greetings from Berlin/ Germany. Sven
Really enjoyed watching this video with the Union Pacific engines on 3 of 4 trains. Then the Lehigh Valley leading the last train as an added bonus... Very cool !!!
Howdy JT! Man, those locos were workin' it on that first train. Lots of UP engines today. Guess that partnership between NS and UP is doing just fine lol. Nothing new to add on the mystery shaft - I think everyone has already covered it. Thanks for sharing 🤠
Really love seeing big locomotives working hard upgrade keeping their train moving what a site, not much of a mechanic but that looks like it could be a turbine shaft of some kind. Norphie seems to be adjusting well to her little brother, so cute. Glad to see they fixed up that pedestrian bridge, looks much better. Thanks for everything JT.
What great videos JT. I find them very entertaining and as I’ve written before, reminds me of trips on Amtrak a few years ago. Hearing the train horns in the dead of night in the sleeper, eating breakfast at 80 mph watch the scenery slide by. I’d do it again tomorrow but Mrs Wife won’t. One day JT, one day the lotto will payout!
Yea, not everyone gets it, being a railman that is. I find it amazing, the power, the steel, the massive size and all the material it moves. My wife and kids chuckle at me when I'm watching railFan videos. It beats my father-in-law who watches the Golf channel for hours.
Great video Jawtooth! I bet that big electric generator rotor is heading down south to one of TVA's electric generating dams! I get my electricity from the one at Wolf creek on lake Cumberland, they've had alot of trouble with the dam and had to redo it a couple year's back and my electric bill went up due to the dam repair. Just a guess though, but its definitely for a electric motor or generator!👍
Hey jaw tooth you should see trains in Richmondville NY cobbolskill NY long grade . Trains always working hard climbing the grade . Have a great railroad day 🚂🙋♀️
Great good video, mr Jaw Tooth. That huge heavy and wide thing is a rotor for a generator in a powerstation. But yesterday a Reading line heritage locomotive and today a Lehigh valley locomotive, whe gonna see all that heritage locomotives from NS. Greet from Zandvoort the Netherlands 🇾🇪🇺🇸.
Good morning I enjoyed that video👍👍
Great to see that you have added an Australian Sheppard to your Hurd of dogs. Aussie are a FANTASTIC breed of dogs.
Oh, Norfie has a true cat’s distain for your pup.
Loki has some great colored eyes .
between chessie and the new dog they blend into the carpet
Awesome video Jaw Tooth! NS POWER! 🔥🔥
Norfie doesn't look too pleased with the new puppy.
Great video Jawtooth. Lots of shots on nice trains. And… a DPU…..ICU. 😂pretty cool! 👍❤️
He blends right in with the flooring
Amazing videos Jaw Tooth keep up the good work
Awesome trains. Can’t get enough puppy! Thanks, Jaw Tooth.
And jaw tooth and the train is working hard ❤😊
And jaw tooth and that's DPU working hard ❤ 😊
Jaw tooth and another train coming up hill ❤😊
I love watching trains come up this hill. They sand the rails and make a lot of noise
Good video Jawtooth

DoD: what kind of rotor is that?
@robertdshannon5155 The rotating moving (center part) of a alternator is called a rotor. Outside windings are the stator.
Had a question never got answer where's the anti Christ train do know the anti Christ train for Canadian national is it's in Waterloo Iowa.
Couple cars down, on the other side of the box car looked like the bearings for it

The pup gets along very well with the other animals. We took him to the vet today for shots and he weighs 12.3 pounds
Nice lash up too.

Hard working locomotives and foreign power. Love the horn salute.

Sounds like they needed every bit of power on the first train to get up that hill! Awesome. 😊😊 Thanks 👍 JT. 😊😊
I believe that is what is called a mill roll for the steel industry. The mills use that to roll the steel into coils.
Nah, it's either a thingamabob or a whichamacallit.
Bingo!! It's a rolling mill roll.
yes actually looks like a backup roll for the rolling mills.
Nice to see a Locomotive with an American flag on it and not foreign. God Bless America.
That's a very large electric motor armature. I saw the same the car the other day on Wide World of Trains video.
Got @1960Gambit now as part of my train watchers. Love watching both of your videos
You need to bring your radar gizmo to Walkerton, Indiana. They are bookin' through there, son!
Excellent video JT!!!!
