I did get a 45 record with xtc spiral on the label tattooed on my left outer bicep. It's rather large. Yes I have a few other xtc tattoos as well. This is such a cool song. Wait a minute.....they're ALL COOL!
1 of my all time favourite bands...i've never hear this before today...their music always sounds both unique & familiar...this is another classic andy partridge track...

I am an XTC fanatic. Why am I just now finding out about this song ? Good Lord this is f*cking fantastic ! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get back together boys !
yeah and, come to find out, andy's on all the tracks, it's all him, except for the drummer, but he even probly can be heard somewhere on the drum track(s)~
@@mikemckinney3847 yeah , no, i agree, but there's usually some way, he's worm'd his way, onto most, if not all tracks, [i think that's why he's called] xtc, and 'the boys' are called , what they're called, if at all~
I can only DITTO Jen Murphy's comment: " I am an XTC fanatic. Why am I just now finding out about this song?" Almost like getting a new XTC present :-)
Holy smokes, This song is great! I listened to "Say It" And its a great one too. Now I can see where XTC were going musically. Having heard these I can say I actually wish they'd reform and make an album with songs of such caliper! I know that's what they wanted to do too, Too bad writer's block got them :/
For some reason it feels almost as if I know Andy Partridge (Somewhat) and we've never met face-to-face as of this writing, At least - Though I did ask him questions over Twitter to which he responded. Considering I've listened to a lot of XTC songs it's like I was observing a documentary of much of his life, Colin too as well as Barry and Dave and Terry.
Great song Mr Partridge. They recorded it some years ago. It must have been done after Andy's recovery from an accident, which stopped him playing for a while (n'est pas?) I'm an XTC nut too. Been so since I was 19!
@101Volts - Colin is the one who said he at least wanted to take a break or something (I don't think he totally ruled things out). Andy didn't feel it appropriate to do anything under the XTC name if it was just him, but he's always writing stuff and recording demos. He DID mention maybe another solo album, though.
yes - the only problem being that I have to spend £38 just to get this track! I've bought the apple venus and wasp star albums (plus the demo albums too), so it's just frustrating that I can't source the track as a stand-alone download...i'll live though. Just ;-)
There's a progression in the bridge that goes C ??? Am G, can anybody tell me what that chord is? I think it contains a B and a G#, and maybe some other nasty bits.
@shrew972 Well, Whatever the reason was. I had the impression they raised the bar for quality so high that they couldn't meet the quality they wanted to achieve. I also read something along those lines in a quote from Colin, If it was a real quote that is. I can't remember which forum I read those comments on so take it for what you will. (Maybe Colin talked about the break up in his 2 hour interview in 2008)
Thank you so much for posting this - I asked APE whether I could buy it, but no - hopefull they will make it available at some point. Is Dave Gregory on this track? Who's on drums? THANK YOU! Al.
well i do (obviously), but the bit rate, and therefore the audio quality on a purchased & downloaded track is usually vastly better. and anyway - music shouldn't be entirely free. i'd like to think of mr partidge seeing some reward for his efforts...
me again. back for another fix. does anyone know where you can buy this? terribly old fashioned of me, i know, but i'd quite like to own a legal high-fidelity copy, and for the artist to get some financial reward..
yeah, but that'd be andy! apparently it was all andy, from what i keep hearin', if there's a twelve string rickenbacker, it might be dave, otherwise, i think someone made him redundant decades ago, ahaha!
I'm stupidly happy listening to this song.
same
Masterpiece.
Classic XTC. The Kinks meet the Beatles and they go over to the Flamin' Groovies' house.
Thank you for sharing... one of the best songwriters of the last 25 years... :)
you mean the last 1985 years!

could it be the 'nonsuch' drummer? whichever 'terry' it was, they bashed it outta-the-park, big-league~
Spiral, torn from the tone arm
Waking up the track
Dormant in the black valley of the vinyl
Spiral, dug by the diamond
Running it around, turn it into sound
Entering my spinal
Got to play all my favourite 45’s
Stacked way up high
Well everyday I spin away my 45’s
Help me to fly
Spiral
Spiral, ripped from the record
Roll into the room, dissipate the gloom
Happiness eternal
Spiral, pulled from the plastic
Angel choirboys, devilish the noise
Heavenly infernal
Got to play all my favourite 45’s
Ten thousand times
Every day I spin away my 45’s
Help me to climb up

Nice and beatlesque - sounds as if they even have borrowed Paul's old Höfner bass.🙂

I can see a possibility of Colin and Andy making up and getting back together, Even despite whatever it is they've been through.
swindon's very own Brian Wilson. Amen.
Awesome - Andy Partridge is the most underrated composer in the World...;)
This is the most Beatles/Beach Boys/XTC song I ever heard.

When is someone going to compile book detailing all of XTC's recording sessions the way Mark Lewisohn did for The Beatles?
Look up the book 'Complicated Game' by Andy.
@InParticularNobody why don't you just listen to the track on here!!
why is this music not on the airwaves
the notes say Ralph Salmins is on drums. Andy says he does the rest, I think I hear Colin on backing vocals. And who did the horn bit?
Colin is not on this, neither is Andy on 'Say It'.

For the record, Andy is the only person playing on this track. All the vocals. All the guitars. Everything. Colin is not on this track.
